Living Funeral
The laughter had stopped, and Chen Jian said, "To suppress me, a cold-blooded person like you, who would even kill an innocent child, is truly perverse!"
Gao Qing didn't respond to that and instead asked, "Do you really think you can leave here today?"
Chen Jian replied, "I never intended to leave. Even if my soul is scattered today, I will make you pay the price."
"Is that so?" Gao Qing said.
After Gao Qing spoke, he took the initiative to strike. Strangely enough, Chen Jian did not evade and engaged in combat with Gao Qing.
In the darkness, it was hard to see clearly.
Gao Ling stood beside me and remarked, "This money is all hard-earned!"
I ignored Gao Ling; at that moment, I had no mind for financial matters. Instead, I was somewhat worried about Gao Qing, unsure if he could handle the situation.
Once the seven-sided Decree flags were set up, it was nearly impossible for Chen Jian to escape.
Gao Ling's Exorcism Talismans had already been taken by Gao Qing, leaving him without any support. He didn't dare to step forward.
Gao Ling held a handful of Glutinous Rice in his hand.
I walked over to the tea table, grabbed the bowl from earlier, and poured some blood into it—better safe than sorry.
I felt a growing sense of tension inside me.
I do not know what words Zhang Xun wrote after I inscribed the Decree on the day of sealing the coffin, but I am certain that the two words alone cannot seal it.
I recalled the few hasty characters Zhang Xun had written.
Finally, I took out the remaining Yellow Cloth and attempted to write on it. First, I wrote the word Decree, then, relying solely on memory, I inscribed what Zhang Xun had written.
Of course, I couldn't be sure; in any case, the full text was "Decree of the Ghost Emperor" followed by the word "execution."
As I stared at these six characters, I suddenly froze for a few seconds, and an icy chill surged up my spine.
The Urn I carried also seemed to sway slightly at that moment.
I murmured to myself, "Decree of the Ghost Emperor execution..."
But just as my words fell, I suddenly saw Chen Jian approaching me, looking somewhat disheveled.
I instinctively took a step back.
However, in the next moment, something astonishing happened—Chen Jian unexpectedly knelt down in front of me without warning. Damn it, at that moment, I really thought I was seeing ghosts. If this wasn’t a ghostly encounter, then how could such a thing happen?
Chen Jian stared at me, fear already evident in his eyes.
The lights in the room began to flicker again.
Chen Jian looked up and suddenly asked, "Who are you? Why is this happening?"
Before I could respond, Gao Ling suddenly shouted, "Brother Fei, don't panic! I'm coming to save you!" With that, Gao Ling pulled me back and threw a handful of Glutinous Rice at Chen Jian.
In an instant, Chen Jian began to wail in agony, the sound of popping and cracking filling the air as if the Aged Glutinous Rice were exploding.
Chen Jian was in immense pain, his body writhing uncontrollably. However, it wasn't long before he recovered and glared at us with fury.
The flickering lights made Chen Jian appear even more terrifying, almost ghostly.
Gao Ling quickly said, "Fei, I feel something's off. My scalp is tingling."
I too sensed that something was wrong with Chen Jian; he seemed stronger than before. After all, previously he had been completely overpowered by Gao Ling and Gao Qing.
But now, not only had Chen Jian grown more powerful, but the malice radiating from him had intensified as well.
Step by step, Chen Jian approached me, his eyes filled with hatred that threatened to burst forth like a flood.
Gao Ling pulled me back.
Fortunately, Gao Qing made a move at that moment, but Chen Jian dodged it effortlessly.
Chen Jian rushed towards me, and Gao Ling shouted in response, "Run!"
But before I could even react, Chen Jian had pinned me down. Suddenly, he grasped my neck with both hands and said, "Why do I feel like you look familiar?"
How could that be? I had never met Chen Jian before this moment. His eyes turned blood-red just then.
I saw a pattern appear on Chen Jian's neck, and upon seeing it, I couldn't help but gasp in shock.
How is this possible? Why is this pattern here again?
In an instant, I felt a surge of panic, but Chen Jian had no intention of letting me go; instead, he seemed intent on choking me.
I clutched the Yellow Cloth I had prepared earlier.
In my desperation, I pressed the Yellow Cloth against Chen Jian's face. As soon as the cloth touched him, his grip around my neck immediately loosened.
Then he suddenly cried out and began to convulse on the ground as if he were having a seizure.
A soul writhed on the floor, sobbing.
At that moment, time seemed to stand still. Gao Qing hurried over, while Yu remained motionless, likely having fainted just moments before.
Chen Jian looked utterly tormented, his cries echoing in the living room, creating an unsettling atmosphere.
I got up from the floor and stared at the transformed Chen Jian.
It struck me as strange; just moments ago, he had been so fierce, and now he was like this. Could it really be that the Yellow Cloth held such power?
Gao Qing glanced at me without saying a word. Instead, he picked up a bowl from the coffee table and placed two coins inside—one on the bottom of the bowl and one on its back.
Gao Qing crouched beside Chen Jian and softly murmured, "Come back, come back."
As those words fell, Chen Jian's soul slowly began to enter the bowl.
However, just as his soul was about to fully enter, a sudden change occurred. It was as if Chen Jian had come back to life in an instant, and he shot out of the bowl.
Next, Chen Jian attempted to escape. But he had miscalculated; the seven-sided Decree flags sealed off all exits. There was no way for him to get out, and the consequence of colliding with the seven-sided Decree flags would leave him battered and bruised.
At that moment, Chen Jian's soul was like a living person splashed with sulfuric acid; it began to dissolve as if it were skin. His originally handsome features became grotesquely terrifying.
At this point, Chen Jian couldn't even let out a scream.
Gao Qing stepped forward and directly sealed Chen Jian at the bottom of the bowl, then used Gao Ling's Yellow Talisman to secure it.
Seeing this scene, Gao Ling remarked that they had finally subdued this wretched ghost.
The lights in the living room returned to normal.
Yet I remained in a daze because I had just seen that symbol on Chen Jian's neck.
I suspected that previously, there hadn't been such a symbol on his neck.
Could it be that someone drew it on him last night? When Chen Jian met me earlier, he didn't seem so filled with malice; it must have been after he left that someone replaced it on him.
Was the person behind this symbol always following me?
Just now, Chen Jian seemed familiar with me. I guessed it was due to the influence of that symbol that he felt familiar.
I stood frozen in place, suddenly gripped by a wave of fear. If it hadn't been for the Yellow Cloth, Chen Jian would have surely choked me to death.
Gao Ling patted my back and called out to me.
Instinctively, I shrugged off Gao Ling's hand. Perhaps my reaction was too intense, as Gao Ling asked, "Brother Fei, what's wrong? Are you scared silly?"
I didn't respond immediately, and Gao Ling continued, "I've seen my fair share of storms. Brother Fei, you need to get used to this!"
It was only then that I snapped back to reality and glanced at Gao Ling. She was laughing carefree, completely unfazed.
However, Gao Qing had set down her bowl and was still crouched on the ground. At that moment, I noticed that she was clutching my Yellow Cloth tightly in her hand.
Written in blood on it were the words "Decree of the Ghost Emperor" followed by the phrase "Execute Six."
In truth, I could have easily guessed those six characters.
I walked over, about to tell Gao Qing that the Yellow Cloth belonged to me, but she beat me to it and asked, "Did you write these six characters?"
Just as I was preparing to admit that I had indeed written them, I suddenly heard the sound of a child's crying...
