Living Funeral
I suddenly felt a wave of anxiety wash over me. Gao Ling asked, "Fei, are you okay? You weren't scared by that just now, were you?"
At that moment, Gao Ling and I were already seated in the car, and he had closed the door. I called out to him, and he lit a cigarette, acting as if nothing was wrong. "Look at the sweat on your forehead. Did you see a ghost or something?"
I was about to blurt out that I had indeed seen a ghost, but before I could say anything, the hand of the woman in red had already settled on Gao Ling's neck.
Yet, Gao Ling seemed completely unaware.
If we tried to force our way out, with our abilities, we really wouldn't be able to deal with this ghostly woman. If she possessed Gao Ling, we would be done for.
I glanced at the woman in red and swallowed hard. Her appearance was truly unsettling. At that moment, I recalled how she had feasted on live people at the bar that night, and a wave of panic washed over me.
I wanted to give Gao Ling a hint, but the woman in red shook her head at me, signaling me not to act rashly.
Gao Ling took a drag from his cigarette and said, "Damn it, we've been set up! Last night at the bar was a bust with the girls, and now this massage parlor is also a failure. We must have been schemed against."
Little did he know that his life was hanging by a thread.
My hands were clammy with cold sweat; I was incredibly tense.
Gao Ling pressed the gas pedal and headed home. I was drenched in cold sweat, feeling an eerie chill run down my spine. Damn it, this woman in red really had latched onto me; it seemed my earlier instincts were right.
With her hand resting on Gao Ling's neck, I dared not utter a word.
The car was moving, and the woman in red was surprisingly gazing at me with a hint of inexplicable emotion in her eyes.
Suddenly, she reached out a hand towards me. Instinctively, I wanted to dodge, but she quickly grabbed my collar. My heart raced with fear; what on earth was this woman in red up to?
If she intended to harm us, she could have done so long ago. She had been incredibly ruthless before, yet now she lingered here with us.
I took a deep breath, my lips trembling uncontrollably. Gao Ling hadn’t noticed anything amiss and continued talking about how well we had handled things at Uncle Cao's place. He insisted that we should celebrate this success and joked about encountering ghosts...
I thought to myself, Gao Ling really wasn’t very perceptive! He still hadn’t realized what was happening.
His lack of awareness was truly astounding!
Finally, we arrived home. After Gao Ling got out of the car, the woman in red remained beside me, her hand now resting on my shoulder. Gao Ling called out, “Fei, why are you still dawdling? Get inside!”
My face stiffened as I shot a glance at Gao Ling, but he completely missed it and kept urging me.
At that moment, the woman in red tugged at my collar, pulling me back.
Gao Ling said, “Fei, what’s going on? Are you coming or not? You’re not having second thoughts at this late hour, are you?” Sweat began to bead on my forehead as he still failed to understand. Finally, I had no choice but to say, “You go ahead; I’ll grab a pack of cigarettes.”
“Alright, I’ll head up first. Oh, and when you come up, could you bring me some instant noodles and a drink?” Gao Ling replied.
Great, now he was giving me orders. Reluctantly, I agreed.
After Gao Ling left, the old district was mostly deserted, and it was around ten o'clock. I asked, "What do you want from me? Why are you bothering me?" This female ghost had killed so many people in such a short time; why was she not attacking us?
There had to be a reason.
The ghost in red released her grip on my collar and slowly walked up to me. We locked eyes, and I was afraid she might strike at any moment.
However, at that moment, I surprisingly saw a hint of tenderness in the fierce gaze of the ghost. Yet, that tenderness only made me feel more uneasy, sending chills down my spine. The ghost took a step closer to me, and instinctively, I stepped back.
I asked her what she wanted.
I was even prepared to bite my finger and write the word "Decree."
But then the ghost suddenly called out to me, "Chen Lang, don't you recognize me?"
Hearing this left me stunned. Chen Lang? I thought to myself, could I have encountered a "crazy" ghost? My heart sank.
I quickly explained, "You must have mistaken me for someone else! My name is Chen Fei."
But the ghost insisted, "Chen Lang, it's me, Lin Xue! You used to call me Xue Er."
I was speechless.
I thought to myself that this ghost must be out of her mind; otherwise, why would she randomly call someone by the wrong name? Moreover, her dress was dirty and tattered, and it seemed quite old-fashioned. In the dim light of the bar earlier, I hadn't noticed these details.
I truly did not recognize the female ghost named Lin Xue standing before me, so I said, "I really don't know you."
Even after saying that, Lin Xue still refused to believe me. She gazed at me with such longing in her eyes. This Evil Spirit, despite her sinister nature, had a softness hidden within her gaze, and that softness was directed at me.
It was overwhelming; standing there felt like an eternity.
Lin Xue certainly wouldn’t let me go easily. She was staring at me intently, calling me Chen Lang, while I had already started referring to myself as Chen Fei.
My heart raced as I asked the ghost in red, "What is your purpose in finding me?"
Lin Xue continued to look at me with those affectionate eyes. The pressure was mounting inside me. She took a step closer and said, "Chen Lang, weren't you going to marry me? I've already put on my red wedding dress. Will you marry me, Chen Lang?"
I felt cornered and replied, "I really don’t know you. I'm not Chen Lang; I won't marry you. You must have mistaken the person you're looking for. If there's nothing else, I'm going to head back and get some sleep."
Just as I finished speaking and was about to leave, a hand suddenly grabbed mine. For some reason, in that fleeting moment, I felt a strange sense of familiarity.
But after a few seconds of being dazed, I cursed myself inwardly—Damn it! I almost fell under the ghost's spell. I forcefully shook off the hand of the ghost in red and tried to run upstairs.
However, just after climbing two or three steps, the ghost in red blocked my way.
At that moment, my heart sank; I thought this might be where it all ended for me.
I slowly backed away; running was not an option. Damn it! If it came down to a fight, then I'd give it my all. I quickly bit my finger until it bled and wrote the word "Decree." A faint red light rapidly spread out and charged directly toward the ghost in red.
The woman in the red dress was knocked back.
At that moment, my head felt a bit dizzy. I ran in the opposite direction of the house, hoping to reach a crowd of people. With more people around, the atmosphere would be lively enough that Lin Xue wouldn’t dare to act so recklessly.
But I ran for a long time and couldn’t find a single person. Damn it, it was too late, and my heart was racing in my throat.
Just then, I heard the woman in red call out to me, “Chen Lang.”
But I wasn’t her Chen Lang at all! Suddenly, I thought this might be the curse brought by that Urn! After running for a while, I was completely exhausted and decided to rest for a few minutes. The empty road had no one on it.
Occasionally, a few cars passed by.
I looked around but didn’t see any trace of the woman in red. Finally, I thought I had escaped!
However, just a second later, a voice whispered close to my ear, “Chen Lang, do you really not want to marry me?” The voice was so close that I could almost smell something strange.
I was instantly startled and fell to the ground.
The woman in red appeared as well, and she continued, “Chen Lang, are you really going to let me down? Are you going to be a heartless man?” Her voice suddenly turned chillingly eerie.
