Director Huang observed me closely, noting that he could see through my facade. After all, he had encountered many inexplicable situations in his youth as well.
Realizing that Director Huang had figured it out, I felt there was no reason to hide the truth any longer. It would be beneficial for me if he knew, so I decided to speak up.
Director Huang paused for a moment and asked why the celestial beings would act in such a manner.
I shook my head, recalling what Uncle Tiger had said earlier—that this matter could only be resolved with the involvement of the Heavenly Supervisor. The thought weighed heavily on my mind.
Noticing the turmoil on my face, Director Huang inquired about what was troubling me.
I explained that addressing this issue would be quite complicated since it involved celestial beings. We would need the Heavenly Supervisor to handle it; otherwise, we would be opposing them.
Director Huang seemed taken aback and fell into deep thought. I chose not to interrupt him. When we arrived at the police station, he suddenly seemed to recall something and said to me, "Young brother, I just remembered someone. Before I became Director Huang, I was just a small captain like Captain Wu. Back then, I encountered a troublesome matter involving celestial beings as well. It was eventually resolved by an esteemed Old Director in our department."
His words immediately filled me with hope, and I urged him to take me to meet this Old Director.
Director Huang nodded and instructed the accompanying officers to turn around and take us to the Old Director's home.
The Old Director lived in a very quiet place, unlike many dignitaries who resided in villas; instead, he had a small courtyard made of blue bricks.
From Director Huang's tone and conversation, it was clear that he held great respect for this Old Director.
Upon entering the courtyard, I realized it was truly a place conducive to self-cultivation. After a while, an elderly man emerged, his demeanor radiating kindness.
"Old Director," Director Huang greeted him warmly as he approached.
The old man smiled upon seeing Director Huang and asked how he had the time to visit him, jokingly reminding him that as a public servant, he shouldn't be slacking off.
Director Huang chuckled and replied that the Old Director still had the same passion for his work as before.
At that moment, the Old Director noticed me and understood the purpose of Director Huang's visit. He then said, "Have you encountered some trouble?"
I was taken aback; I hadn't expected the Old Director to be so perceptive. Director Huang nodded and looked at me, signaling for me to speak up.
I nodded in response to Director Huang and began to explain the situation with the Rabbit Demon. I didn't hold out much hope, after all, if even Uncle Tiger was troubled by it, how could an ordinary person possibly find a solution?
After listening, the Old Director pondered for a moment and said, "There might be a way. I once knew a very capable gentleman. Given the current circumstances, he would also qualify as a Heavenly Supervisor."
The Old Director's words surprised me. Director Huang quickly asked if we could ask for his help.
The Old Director hesitated and said that the Heavenly Supervisor no longer owed him any favors. If we were to request his assistance, it would mean incurring a debt that would have to be repaid, and the cost would be substantial.
Once the Old Director mentioned this, both Director Huang and I fell silent. We certainly couldn't let the Old Director bear the cost for us.
Seeing our silence, the Old Director laughed heartily and reassured us not to worry; the price wasn't too steep, and he would help us.
For some reason, his words gave me an odd feeling.
I glanced at Director Huang, who seemed to share a look of curiosity. The Old Director instructed us to return tomorrow, assuring us that our concerns would be addressed by then.
Reluctantly, Director Huang and I left. On the way, I couldn't hold back any longer and asked Director Huang what exactly the Old Director intended to do.
Director Huang shook his head, saying he wasn't quite sure. However, since the Old Director had already agreed, he would surely assist us.
I responded with a slight acknowledgment just as my phone rang. Looking at the screen, I saw it was Officer Yuan calling.
Upon learning the good news about Captain Wu, I told Director Huang and got off midway, then took another ride back to where I was staying. As I walked through the door, I saw everyone gathered, and Captain Wu was soaking in a large wooden tub.
“Captain Wu, you’re finally awake!” I said, a bit excited.
Captain Wu smiled at me, though he still looked quite haggard. I paused for a moment; was his spirit not fully restored yet?
At that moment, Uncle Tiger approached and pulled me aside, asking where I had been these past few days.
I suddenly remembered what Old Director had said earlier and immediately shared it with Uncle Tiger. After listening, he frowned and asked where Old Director lived, as he wanted to pay a visit.
I looked at Uncle Tiger in surprise; why would he want to visit Old Director?
I asked him what was going on.
Uncle Tiger didn’t respond, so I gave him the address. To my surprise, he immediately took action. I stood there for a moment before walking back into the house.
When Captain Wu saw me enter, he weakly waved me over, indicating he had something to ask.
I nodded, and Captain Wu inquired if anything had happened in the past few days.
I nodded again and told him about how Big Boss had nearly died.
This alarmed Captain Wu so much that he almost tried to get out of the tub. Luckily, I stopped him and reassured him that Big Boss was fine now.
Only then did Captain Wu relax. By the second Queen’s arrival, his health had completely recovered. I informed Captain Wu that we still had something very important to do today.
I arrived at the police station with Captain Wu, and at that moment, Director Huang was already waiting for us at the entrance. Upon seeing Captain Wu, Director Huang nodded, and soon we all got into the car to head to the Old Director's house.
However, when we arrived, I was shocked to find that a funeral was being held at the Old Director's home.
I looked at Director Huang in surprise, wondering what had happened. Just yesterday, the Old Director had seemed perfectly fine.
At that moment, even more astonishingly, Uncle Tiger walked out from inside, holding a strange object—a lotus made of wood.
After a moment, both Captain Wu and I snapped back to reality and hurriedly asked Uncle Tiger how he came to be here.
Uncle Tiger glanced at Director Huang before focusing his gaze on Captain Wu and me. "The Old Director's passing was destined, and it's actually a good thing," he said.
His words left both Captain Wu and me stunned. Could it be that Uncle Tiger had learned something during his visit to the Old Director's house yesterday? Or had the Old Director hinted at something during our conversation?
Suddenly, memories flooded back of what the Old Director had said to me and Director Huang before.
I realized then that the price the Old Director mentioned was indeed his own death.
Instantly, I felt a wave of guilt wash over me; my heart felt heavy. If it weren't for Captain Wu and me seeking out the Old Director, I thought he might not have met this fate.
Uncle Tiger seemed to sense my inner turmoil and said to me, "Wang Niu, even if you hadn't gone looking for the Old Director, he would have left this world today. The Old Director was chosen by the Heavenly Palace."
"What?" I exclaimed in disbelief as I looked at Uncle Tiger.
He nodded, and everyone present was once again taken aback. No one had expected that the Old Director was actually from the Heavenly Palace.
"Does this mean that the Rabbit Spirit issue can now be resolved?" I asked.
Uncle Tiger nodded, said nothing more, and turned to walk into Old Director's house to handle the affairs following Old Director's passing.
I stared blankly at Uncle Tiger's retreating figure, while Director Huang nudged me and asked about Uncle Tiger's background and how he knew Old Director.
I initially wanted to say that Uncle Tiger had no connection to Old Director, but seeing how familiar Uncle Tiger was with Old Director's family left me at a loss for words.
Noticing my conflicted expression, Director Huang decided to drop the subject. After we paid our respects to Old Director, we left and headed to Big Boss's house.
Once we got out of the car, I sensed something was off. I stopped in my tracks and looked up, stunned by the dark mist enveloping Big Boss's home. Faint flashes of electricity flickered within it.
Seeing me suddenly halt, Director Huang and Captain Wu looked at me in confusion and asked what was wrong.
I pointed at the ominous black mist and lightning in the air and said, "Look over there; it's strange. It seems like some kind of demon has taken over Big Boss's house."
As soon as I spoke, Captain Wu and Director Huang reacted very differently.
Captain Wu was excited, urging me to help him open his third eye, while Director Huang gazed at the sky with a complex expression.
I nodded and took out the item I had used on Captain Wu last time, applying it to his eyelids. In no time, Captain Wu would be able to see what I had just seen.
