I took one last glance at the few images before moving on.
I stepped deeper into the tomb path, and after a turn, I found a row of stone steps about two meters wide.
A long carpet was laid over the stone steps, but due to the passage of time, its color had faded beyond recognition.
As my foot landed on it, the carpet disintegrated like burnt paper, leaving my footprints on the stone steps.
There were thirty-three steps in total. Standing on the first step and looking down, a sense of grandeur seemed to spread out below.
I descended step by step, and for a moment, fragments of memories flickered in my mind, but they vanished before I could grasp them clearly.
By the time I reached the bottom of the thirty-three stone steps, I was drenched in cold sweat, as if I had lived through someone else's life.
Fat Ma's crude jokes pulled me back to reality.
I glanced at Fat Ma; his old temperament hadn’t changed. I couldn’t help but breathe a sigh of relief and wiped the sweat from my forehead.
Fat Ma went in first and then excitedly called out, "Old Sun, Old Sun, come over here and take a look."
Hearing his voice, I quickened my pace and hurried over.
Fat Ma was looking up, turning off his flashlight. Above us, it seemed like stars were twinkling in the darkness. However, when he turned on the flashlight, those faint points of light dimmed significantly.
They appeared to be crystals embedded in the ceiling, and as I looked at the entire wall, it resembled a star chart. These crystals were positioned in the most significant places, releasing their glow in the dark.
Creating a starry sky was an impressive feat, truly breathtaking.
After a moment of admiration, I shifted my gaze downward, which left me equally astonished. Two rows of stone-carved beasts were arranged in perfect alignment, and in front of the Stone Carved Beasts stood an exquisitely carved White Jade Chair, exuding an imposing presence.
Fat Ma's eyes lit up at the sight of the White Jade Chair, and he hurried over with excitement.
The Mud Man caught up to Fat Ma, urging him not to touch anything recklessly.
Just as Fat Ma was about to approach the White Jade Chair, an unexpected event occurred. An unknown object suddenly attacked, binding Fat Ma tightly. He let out a startled cry.
The Mud Man quickly reacted and grabbed Fat Ma's hand, but in the next moment, he too was nearly ensnared. However, he was quick on his feet and drew his knife to cut himself free.
Fat Ma was already being pulled into the air while the Mud Man staggered back a few steps.
At that moment, I finally saw what the unknown object was—it appeared to be Withered Vines.
Fat Ma wailed in midair, but his body had stabilized. "What are you all standing there for? Hurry up and find a way to get me down!" he shouted.
The Mud Man replied, " Fat Ma, this is what happens when you ignore my advice. Now you're in trouble!"
"You little brat, stop making sarcastic comments and get me down!" Fat Ma was genuinely anxious now.
Suddenly, the Mud Man exclaimed in surprise, "Old Sun, look at this dagger!"
I looked down and noticed that the Mud Man's knife was stained with red liquid. Black Glasses and Xiao Nan also came over to investigate.
Xiao Nan asked, "Brother Sun, is this blood?"
The Mud Man sniffed with his nose and said, "It doesn't smell like blood."
I quickly took a few steps forward, but the Withered Vines that had been cut by the Mud Man had already disappeared.
I shouted, "Mud Man, roll up your sleeves and see if you have any wounds."
The Mud Man complied and after a moment of surprise replied, "There’s a red mark."
This was bad; my heart sank as I glanced at Fat Ma. The situation was dire.
I ran over to the Mud Man and said, "This is serious. We need to get Fat Ma down."
Seeing my grave expression, the Mud Man asked, "Did you discover something?"
I nodded. Those Withered Vines might be feeding on human blood. As soon as I finished speaking, not only was the Mud Man stunned, but even Black Glasses looked uneasy.
"Fat Ma is in imminent danger; we must get him down," I added.
I shone the flashlight on Fat Ma, and sure enough, his complexion was somewhat pale. Fat Ma, unaware of the situation, cursed at me, saying, "Old Sun, don’t shine that in my eyes; it’s blinding."
I carefully observed Fat Ma's position. The Stone Carved Beast was about 1.5 meters tall, while Fat Ma was suspended at around five meters high. It was impossible to reach him while standing on the Stone Carved Beast.
Suddenly, Black Glasses said, "I have a plan."
The Mud Man and I looked at Black Glasses in surprise.
With a serious expression, Black Glasses said, "We can climb up the Stone Pillar and then onto the beam."
I looked at the Stone Pillars, which were too large for a single person to embrace. Climbing them barehanded seemed unrealistic.
The Mud Man voiced his concerns.
Black Glasses demonstrated through action that climbing them was not impossible.
Due to his injured hand, his climbing speed was quite slow.
I said to Black Glasses, "Be careful." After about a quarter of an hour, Black Glasses managed to climb up and crouched on a beam, then tossed down a hemp rope.
The Mud Man climbed up using the rope, and just as I was about to follow, he stopped me, saying, "You stay below to support us."
I didn’t argue. Fat Ma’s condition was worsening; his shouting had weakened, and he muttered, "I’m afraid of heights!"
"Hang in there, we’ll get you down soon."
"Could you hurry up?" As he spoke, Black Glasses and the Mud Man were getting closer to Fat Ma's position.
When Black Glasses and the Mud Man saw the Withered Vines binding Fat Ma, the Mud Man kept signaling me with his hands.
I didn’t understand and shouted in frustration, "Speak up!"
The Mud Man continued gesturing, and I felt like I began to grasp something.
Black Glasses' movements on the beam slowed significantly as he pulled out a pair of pliers from his waist. He carefully reached toward the Withered Vines binding Fat Ma.
I assumed those were indeed the Withered Vines; the beam was approximately six meters above the ground.
The Mud Man quickly tied the hemp rope to the beam behind him, tightening it securely. Then he patted Black Glasses on the shoulder, and Black Glasses nodded in response.
I noticed their expressions were tense, which only added to my own anxiety.
Just as we were about to make contact with the Withered Vines, Black Glasses swiftly cut the vines binding Fat Ma.
Fat Ma fell down with a thud, and I rushed over to catch him. However, just as he was about to hit the ground, another Withered Vine struck out and ensnared him again.
Fat Ma's face turned pale with fear, and I quickly drew my knife to cut the Withered Vines away.
The small section I severed fell to the ground and surprisingly began to thrash about.
I paused for a moment, then grabbed Fat Ma and started dragging him backward. He regained some composure and began cursing at me.
I ignored his complaints and exerted all my strength to pull him back a few meters.
At that moment, Black Glasses and the Mud Man on the beam seemed to have been discovered by the Withered Vines, which surged toward them like octopus tentacles.
The Mud Man had already grabbed the rope and was sliding down.
Just as it looked like the Withered Vines would ensnare Black Glasses, he jumped down without hesitation, landing on the ground and rolling before standing up. The Mud Man also landed safely at that moment.
Both of them ran toward me.
Fat Ma was already struggling but seemed somewhat weak; however, he was not seriously harmed.
Seeing us running, Xiao Nan also took off ahead of us. As we left the narrow path lined with Stone Carved Beasts, I let out a heartfelt sigh of relief.
Suddenly, I felt a chill run down my back. I turned around sharply, but it was empty. I relaxed for a moment, feeling an instant weakness wash over me.
Fat Ma was also gasping for breath, muttering, "You scared the hell out of me."
After he managed to pull his clothes up, the bloodstains had already seeped into his flesh. Fortunately, Fat Ma was thick-skinned enough to escape serious harm.
"What the hell was that?" Fat Ma cursed.
"Didn't you see it clearly?" I asked.
He shook his head. "I'm afraid of heights; I didn't dare to look."
The Mud Man chimed in, "I saw it clearly." There seemed to be a hint of panic in his voice.
I waited for him to continue. Black Glasses' expression also seemed off, but it was hard to tell under the cover of his sunglasses.
"That wasn't Withered Vines; they have life."
Just as I had calmed down, another wave of unease surged within me.
The Mud Man continued, "They grow inside a black hole, and there seems to be a huge face inside."
"What is it?" I couldn't hold back my astonishment any longer.
It's a gigantic face, like a ghostly visage, still writhing, the Mud Man said emphatically.
Fat Ma spat on the ground and asked, "Mud Man, are you serious?"
The clay figure nodded heavily.
"Fortunately, I'm lucky," Fat Ma patted his chest and said.
I glanced over at that place; it was simply unbelievable and astonishing.
I collected my thoughts.
Fat Ma's gaze wandered around, and after a while, he said, "There's nothing valuable here. The only thing worth anything is that broken chair, but we can't take it. How about we just call it a day?"
Xiao Nan replied, " Fat Ma, are you scared?"
Suddenly questioned by a sixteen-year-old, Fat Ma couldn't maintain his composure and retorted, "What a joke! When have I ever been afraid?"
Xiao Nan stood firm and said, "I must rescue my master." There was no doubt about the determination in her tone.
Fat Ma responded, "Without Fat Master's help, it will be difficult for you to rescue him!"
