The battle between Freyr and Xiong Tai ignited unexpectedly. From the very beginning, it was clear that this fight would not end easily; both were stubborn fighters. For such individuals, even if their bones were shattered and limbs broken, they would show no mercy to the pain. To cry out for surrender due to suffering was not the way of a true man.
One side struggled to suppress the other, while the other fought to control the ravenous killing intent within. Xiong Tai straightened his back, his muscles bulging like elastic rubber, a palpable force held in check. He let out a fierce laugh, his hands trembling with exertion. "Heh heh, I see you're struggling now. Don't push yourself too hard; it's tough on your body."
"I'm fine, not struggling," Freyr replied calmly, appearing utterly composed.
At this moment, Freyr's state was not overly strained. Xiong Tai had exerted all his strength just to maintain a delicate balance. However, Freyr had unlocked the Second Stage Gene Lock, which allowed him to control the strength of his muscles freely. The maximum strength he could bear was double that of normal capacity. Yet, this so-called maximum strength came with its own drawbacks; excessive power could burden other parts of the body, diminishing their mobility. Thus, the Second Stage ability had its flaws—it limited the speed he relied on.
Nevertheless, from what he could see now, the Gene Chain and Second Stage had brought about significant changes. He hadn't yet figured out how to make Xiong Tai concede. With the Gene Chain and Second Stage in play, it wouldn't be long before he himself reached his limits. He was waiting for that opportunity to skillfully harness and control his physical power while pushing his potential to its limits—though it would undoubtedly take a toll on his bodily structure.
If possible, he aimed for a quick resolution to conserve energy output. However, afterward, he would need to visit a medical facility to assess his condition and consume numerous supplements for recovery. After some time, his body would gradually adapt, and once adaptability decreased, he would be able to proficiently control the Gene Lock state for as long as necessary.
Imagine a complete individual unleashing their full potential in combat—what kind of scene would that create? Moreover, the Gene Chain brought more than just strength; it also awakened an insatiable desire for slaughter that even demons would fear.
Freyr sensed that Xiong Tai's hands were trembling more noticeably now. Realizing it was time to end the battle, he grasped Xiong Tai's hands and slowly forced their arms apart. At that moment, Xiong Tai instinctively felt something was off; if it weren't for Freyr holding back, he wouldn't have lasted this long. What was Freyr planning? Was he waiting for Xiong Tai to weaken before launching a fatal attack?
"When did you become this strong? I've been undergoing inhumane strength training every day! Why is there such a gap between us?"
The struggle between them began to ease as Xiong Tai panted heavily. Part of his arm's muscles started swelling as if blood clots were blocking them. He realized he had encountered a true opponent this time. He had once faced down packs of wolves alone and survived by defeating their leader.
The sensation of confronting such immense strength felt like facing an enraged giant bear; even a light touch could shatter bones—not just muscles. Now he bore minor injuries; even ruptured capillaries counted as wounds. He should be grateful that Freyr hadn't taken advantage of the situation to deliver a lethal blow.
"Ah!"
Freyr responded coldly, his muscles slowly contracting back to their original form, returning to his initial state. At that moment, a calm expression of contemplation appeared on his face. "I can't even remember why I became this strong. It feels like so much has happened in the past, rushing by like a movie, and this power is something I suddenly learned during that time. This state is the best I can control right now. Fortunately, I didn't hurt you."
"Hmph, is that so? This time, I clearly understand the gap between us. You go ahead and strive for first place; I'll do my best to secure second."
"Leave that ugly one to me then. Honestly, I don't want to fight with you anymore."
A smile lingered on Xiong Tai's lips as he turned away. But in that instant, a swirling sensation rapidly surfaced in his mind. The next moment, his eyes glazed over, and he collapsed to the ground with a thud, his consciousness fading quickly while the smile on his lips had yet to fade.
A faint ethereal voice came through intermittently. "Hmph, no need to look for me; I'll take my revenge, you fool."
At that moment, a figure hurried past Xiong Tai without even glancing at the man who resembled a corpse on the ground.
"Pull yourself together; wake up." Freyr approached anxiously, but Xiong Tai lay completely unresponsive on the ground. His breathing was steady and smooth, as if he had simply fallen asleep.
The ugly one stopped a few meters away, turned around, and laughed. "Heh heh, there are really so many useless ones who can't even activate Gene Lock."
Freyr's mind buzzed as his body trembled slightly from agitation. He lowered his voice and spoke with disdain. "Useless? Are you referring to yourself? Do you think it's that easy to succeed without ambushing?"
"Oh dear, you're angry. Well, it's understandable; it's normal to be upset when your friend is insulted like this."
Freyr paused for a moment, then heightened his vigilance, preparing for a sudden attack from across the way.
However, the ugly figure truly turned and walked away, their lips moving slightly as if they had casually uttered a phrase, causing Freyr's alertness to ease a little.
"However, you absolutely cannot defeat me, and right now I don't want to fight you. I'll find an appropriate time to engage with you. This time, let's just say I'm fine with being second place; that should suffice, and we will owe each other nothing."
A vague dizziness emerged momentarily, blurring his vision, and in the next instant, the ugly figure vanished completely.
"Damn it, what was that? I didn't even react at all; how frustrating." Freyr slowly lowered his head. Just moments ago, he had felt completely unresponsive, kneeling on the ground and pounding his fist against it.
"Let’s get started."
Suddenly, several people appeared out of nowhere.
The two sides exchanged glances, seemingly in sync as they each grabbed a side of the stretcher, placing Xiong Tai onto it.
The leader, a man resembling a Gentleman, bowed slightly. "We take our leave. He may be in a coma; if this drags on, he might never wake up. We must go. You should have your injuries checked here later; neglecting them will only worsen your condition."
"Oh." Freyr didn’t quite understand what was happening. He then noticed some people lifting the stretcher with Xiong Tai into the shadows. At that moment, he realized these individuals seemed to descend from thin air, as if the ground were a quagmire or like a mysterious spatial wormhole connecting to another realm. Feeling astonished, he hurried over to investigate but found nothing of significance.
