"Wow, so many," Xiong Tai exclaimed in surprise upon hearing the command. At that moment, everyone immediately went on high alert.
Freyr led the way, his long blade slicing through the air with tremendous force, allowing Xiong Tai to fully protect Relock.
Although he had worked as a bodyguard, being the weakest among them made him more prone to problems. After all, it was still uncertain whether the Gene Endowment and Point-Line Eye he had exchanged for would even take effect.
Nevertheless, he hefted a heavy shield, serving as a rare defensive point for the team. In reality, that shield could be pierced directly by firearms and did not possess significant Defense Power.
Perhaps carrying the shield provided some comfort; knowing that regardless of its effectiveness, it was better than nothing when facing such a deadly mission right from the start.
Meanwhile, Mackey stood alongside Freyr, wielding a hammer as two points of offensive firepower.
As the battle commenced, one powerful swing of the hammer caved in the chest of a strange Bat Bugman, causing its sharp fangs to spring forth from its jaw.
In pain, it quickly lunged at the nearest human who had harmed it.
Of course, these attacks were merely temporary measures; they had to strike while creating some distance.
Though it seemed isolated and helpless, this strategy allowed these civilians to secure their lives amidst the chaos.
Among the wandering ordinary people, a group suddenly emerged, tearing through white fabric. The metallic chains behind their muscles clinked loudly as they donned External Metal Skeletons, forming a defensive ensemble capable of withstanding direct assaults from Insectoids.
However, only one among them possessed such equipment. Another individual had set up a kinetic weapon known as the Alchemical Key—an Alchemical Weapon surpassing the Gauss Sniper Rifle. Each loading took two minutes; it wasn't that reloading was particularly difficult, but there was a necessary pause during which they were vulnerable. Its power exceeded that of the Gauss Sniper Rifle by more than ten times. Thus, after firing once, they had to take time to reload; otherwise, staying in one place meant certain death.
The ammunition for activating the Alchemical Key was not ordinary metal; it resembled bullets ground from Diamond. The core material activated was pure fire element. Each bullet was incredibly precious, especially since every shot consumed one bullet from their limited supply.
Once tainted by dirt and grime, those bullets could never be recycled. Reloading required utmost care.
Two others were less fortunate; however, their genetic development was still quite formidable. Both possessed what was known as Solar Fire Gene Endowment but were not as inept as Parker during his initial development of Solar Fire.
One of them gathered a golden sphere of light and hurled it directly forward.
Another release of the Power of Belief, an enhanced version of Solar Fire, the Solar Flare Rifle.
No matter whose attack it was, the resulting power was extraordinary.
The group of four Insectoids sensed the difference in the attacks and, in their moment of shock, were instantly obliterated. The heat from Solar Fire reached three thousand degrees Celsius; even if they survived, they had no chance of harming anyone. In fact, their purpose was to eliminate these harmful citizens known as Insectoids. Even in a half-dead state, they had to be sent off to their end.
With a portion of the Insectoids gone, Freyr immediately felt the support from his allies behind him, significantly reducing the pressure. Xiong Tai unleashed what he called the Power of Belief, transforming into a giant nearly three times taller than a normal person. If it weren't for the protective gear that safeguarded his vital target, he would have appeared almost completely bare.
At that moment, his state did not affect his abilities; with every movement, he could easily swat away two or three Bat-like Insectoids.
Freyr had been observing closely. He drew another sword and engaged in cleanup and finishing moves.
It was crucial not to let those Bat-like Mutated Insectoids get close to their defensive formation.
He didn't know where this continuous surge of power was coming from, but his speed was indeed increasing, and his senses were sharpening; the faster he moved, the more adept he became.
From the beginning until now, he had been single-handedly holding off those monsters. It truly was through his individual strength that the rest of the team could strike hard against the Bat-like Mutant Insectoids.
Their power and speed remained undiminished; with this formation, they could clear out enemies effortlessly and potentially eliminate even more.
The people on the ground finally regained their awareness. They scattered as they sensed something was wrong, and soon only a few remained.
A man stood on a rugged patch of land, looking up with his head tilted back. Suddenly, a golden bullet trajectory whizzed past him, creating an exhilarating scene.
In the next instant, the chest of a Bat-like Mutant Insectoid exploded, its body disintegrating into layers of dust that scattered away in the gentle breeze.
"What a beautiful sight; I could watch it countless times without getting bored. Keep shooting," the man thought to himself.
"Die already! You know that the maximum output of an Alchemical Key is limited. Why did you give me this broken rifle instead? You might as well have handed me a combat-style Gauss Sniper Rifle."
"If it were an ordinary Sniper Rifle, like an outdated model such as Barrett's, I could even manage rapid fire," a sweet and youthful voice suddenly echoed in the man's mind.
"Don't rush, this is to test you. After being single for over a decade, the team needs someone with your hidden firepower."
"Isn't it better to aim for a one-shot kill? You're in a relatively safe spot. I'll gather them all up, and it'll be much easier for you to take your shot. Just give me two minutes."
As they spoke, someone took out a packet of Dust from their pocket and evenly sprinkled it on the ground. Sure enough, the surrounding Bat-like Mutant Insectoids began to draw closer.
The man quickly cut open an artery, letting a few drops of blood fall, but the Blood Pearl at his fingertips crystallized into ice particles.
With a flick of his wrist, a large cloud of blood mist spread behind him. Some of it formed conical shapes, while others took the form of blood arrows, all appearing incredibly enticing, resembling crimson roses.
After the embellishment, only blood-stained remnants remained, swaying and floating in the air, looking sickly and weak.
With another muffled sound, a golden trajectory once again sliced through the air, striking the chest of a Bat-like Mutant Insectoid.
At that moment, bright red blood light shimmered from its eye sockets, and in the next instant, its skin began to crumble into dust.
With the force of a gust of wind, its entire body vanished without a trace.
"Next time, don't mess with me. If you can handle it yourself, please don't waste another Strange Bullet. Do you know how expensive bullets are?" The girl's voice rang out, sounding quite angry.
