"Don't worry, seeing it once means seeing it less often? Seize the opportunity while you can?" Listening to that complaint, the man became excited. By now, all the Bat-like Mutant Insectoids near them had been eliminated.
On the other side, Freyr and the others were attacking in a chaotic manner, their defensive formation somewhat scattered. Indeed, they had only recently come together and lacked significant coordination. The attacks continued, with Freyr being the only one responding quickly on defense. However, it was clear that their numbers were too few and their firepower lacking, even though they had managed to take down several Bat-like Mutant Insectoids.
In reality, the number of Bat-like Mutant Insectoids was not significantly different; they were only reduced in groups of ten to reflect true value in offense and defense. The combat methods did not vary much; there was still a clear division of labor. In fact, the Defense Power of the Mutated Insectoids could be harmed by ordinary blades.
Thus, it was the Soldier-Level Hunter Team that found themselves in a passive position, seemingly surrounded by Bat-like Mutant Insectoids. The four of them stood back to back, engaged in a tug-of-war between defense and offense. At this moment, anyone could push themselves to their limits; even a slight lapse in concentration could lead to casualties. For the Soldier-Level Hunter Team, consisting of only four members, losing even one meant direct sacrifice—Insectoids did not take prisoners.
Even in the most brutal human wars, when confronting soldiers notorious for their crimes, there would still be a moment when surrender was announced, granting at least a semblance of dignity and allowing them to live on temporarily with some peace of mind.
In fact, this new Zerg seemed to deal directly with death; they did not accept prisoners. What they urgently needed was food—food defined as a species known as humans, kept captive at the foot of the mountains.
Indeed, they were still unaware of how vast the world was, but this species was the easiest to deceive with emotions and also the most vulnerable to exploitation.
Compared to their larger size and lack of intelligence, these intelligent Primate beings were a rare and valuable source of sustenance for the Zerg. Moreover, they reproduced quickly; given some time, their population would increase rapidly. The Insectoids quickly regarded this place as a temporary residence.
Suddenly, a golden light appeared overhead, causing all members of the Soldier-Level Hunter Team to tense up and look up. Initially, those Bat-like Mutant Insectoids scattered in panic and reacted differently. In truth, they feared that light; its high temperature could turn their flesh into dry wood. Their movements were clearly restrained.
The skin of those Bat-like Mutant Insectoids began to dry out as excess moisture evaporated instantly. They exhibited varying degrees of hardening phenomena on their bodies, becoming quite rigid—like stone.
Without a doubt, they had all fallen victim, now nothing but corpses.
Among them, a portion of the most vigorous souls floated in mid-air, struck by Xiong Tai, and crashed to the ground, shattering into pieces.
The cave, resembling honeycomb coal, suddenly trembled, the sound growing louder until it formed a thunderous roar, as if a Thunder God resided within. The visibility diminished, and all that could be seen was a swarm of black bats surging from the cave, a vast expanse of darkness rushing toward the city where the residents lived.
Tang Bai stood alone in the low-lying area, witnessing a scene that could make an ordinary person faint from fear. Yet, as he observed, his gaze was mixed with an icy chill.
He raised his hand slightly, and suddenly a golden light emerged from the bushes behind him. The fiery mass spread through the air, engulfing large swathes of blackness that turned to ash.
As the light dissipated, the mass of black seemed to scatter in panic, and the situation spiraled out of control.
"We've exhausted the cleansing effect of Solar Fire? Tang Bai, we can still assist with what's left," two figures sat back-to-back in the thicket, breathing heavily as they responded to him.
Tang Bai did not turn around; his tone was somewhat mocking. "Alright, Yan Yan, load Alchemical Key with bullets. The rest of you follow me into battle."
At that moment, a shadow slightly taller than Tang Bai stepped forward behind him. This figure had long hair cascading over his shoulders and wore a pure white coat; even his hair was white. This man obeyed only Tang Bai's commands, his eyes radiating a chilling murderous intent. He had an air of superiority in handling matters. Two or three others stood nearby but kept their distance. Among them, Yan Yan hid in another patch of grass; although she could handle the Alchemical Key—a gun nearly half her height—if exposed to enemy sight, she would have no means of resistance other than screaming.
"Coldheart, you're an assassin; use your best Seven Kills to cover our retreat. The rest follow me into battle—remember, leave no one alive."
These individuals moved with astonishing speed; in an instant, only one person remained standing alone—the white-clad man radiating murderous intent.
It was as if they shared a telepathic connection; the Power of Belief activated simultaneously. Though it appeared chaotic as they charged recklessly into the depths filled with shadows.
They had their own motives for doing this. Meanwhile, Tang Bai remained expressionless as a broad bronze blade swiftly materialized in his hand. The blade's edge ignited with a blue flame, enhancing its mysterious aura.
The shadows drew closer, only to be extinguished one by one. With a swift horizontal slash, the massive wave of the blade severed the flesh and bones of enemies within five meters, separating their upper and lower bodies. As the flames dissipated, the bronze blade transformed into a pitch-black weapon, its cold, sharp patterns flickering as if several characters were revealed through the intense heat.
Hellfire Demon Blade.
A low growl resonated as the blade was raised once more. Tang Bai named this weapon for its demonic nature; once it tasted blood, it could not be sheathed again.
Thus, he rarely drew it, but at this moment, he felt it necessary to wield it in battle.
In this situation, the blade seemed possessed, unleashing a frenzied slaughter.
It was as if it validated the name of the Hellfire Demon Blade.
On Freyr's side, after clearing away the remaining Insectoids, he noticed that the darkness above him was growing increasingly dim. Suddenly, a figure plummeted down beside him with a loud thud.
As he approached to investigate, he found that it was a person clutching a bronze blade that glowed with a purple hue, radiating intense heat.
Strangely enough, despite gripping the blade directly, this person showed no signs of scorching. Their gaze remained fixed on the sky above.
