In the silent half-space, it seemed as if scorched by flames; one half turned golden yellow while the other remained a chaotic black.
Amidst that golden Aura, a struggling shadow became increasingly distinct, mixed with a hint of wailing. The dark figure swiftly emerged, its wings resembling those of a Bat, covered in wounds, and an ominous aura suddenly unfurled, revealing a pair of dark red eyes that flashed with cold light.
This was a Blood Bat shaped Mutated Insectoid. The typical Bat had green scales interspersed with some stripes, but this one was extraordinary. Its dark scales extended to a face resembling that of a rat, with two delicate fangs glistening coldly. It looked more like a flying mutated vampire. It was still classified as a Mutated Insectoid, but in reality, it was indeed an Insectoid, possessing the abilities of the Zerg, as evidenced by the large mass of root-like plant fibers growing from its head.
The consequences of such an existence once parasitized were quite terrifying. Even when reproducing, the offspring would exhibit the same symptoms. The true horror of the Zerg lay not only in each individual being several times stronger than an ordinary human but also in close combat where humans, without any defensive weapons or offensive tools, would generally be unable to win. Even a soldier from the Advance Troops of the Zerg could easily overpower them.
Tang Bai's Hunter Team was a Military-Level Hunter Team. Above the soldier rank was the military rank, and above that were the ranks of General, Royal, Division, and King, each representing different levels of Hunter Team titles.
If Tang Bai did not wish for his team to continue to Upgrade, he would hold back on exchanging items for Reward Points. However, every time an Upgrade occurred, although opinions varied on its necessity, the consumption of Reward Points could be magnified to thousands of rewards. At that point, every team’s Commander would likely think carefully about whether to Upgrade or remain at their current level.
Although there were significant benefits to Upgrading, such as receiving more missions—albeit with greater risks compared to before—there were always those willing to take risks for substantial Reward Points. Moreover, advancing further could help ensure that the Hunter Team would not disband or face total annihilation in unexpected incidents. As teams advanced upward, they would discover that so-called Royal and Division-Level Hunter Teams were decreasing at alarming rates—about one percent or ten percent. This meant that out of 100 upper-level Hunter Teams, after more than a month of brutal survival missions, the remaining numbers due to layoffs and casualties were truly shocking.
Even though the association had lowered the risk coefficient for missions overall, those who had finally achieved the title of Royal Hunter were unwilling to let their hard-built teams fall behind others. They repeatedly refreshed missions, and soon members within the team would gradually decrease until even the team’s Commander fell victim to total annihilation.
However, Tang Bai's strength was not limited to this. With a swift motion, purple flames ignited on his bronze knife. In the next instant, he raised his long blade and swung it through the night sky.
The shocking scene revealed a massive Bat, its body slightly tilted as if struck by an air blade. The downward diving posture was immediately neutralized; bones creaked and cries echoed. In fact, upon witnessing this scene, Freyr and others felt that what followed might become exceedingly bloody. The dark purple Aura swirling around the bronze knife seemed to be driven by an ability close to fire elements; thus, it appeared as if flames flickered in the breeze. Only objects he commanded could inflict substantial damage; otherwise, no heat would remain.
Therefore, there were no signs of burns on that enormous Bat Bugman. Its veins bulged as if it had barely withstood that powerful strike just now; its mouth was torn open at the corners. Yet the murderous intent surging from that creature filled their hearts with dread.
There was no mistake; possessing such an ability must be incredibly rare. Freya realized how terrifying this race truly was. He already knew that among some mindless Puppets within the Insectoid, most lacked any abilities. In battle, they not only possessed brute strength but also an insatiable devouring capacity. If they wished, they could reproduce infinitely and potentially create life forms approaching mythical perfection.
Although this was the case, these Insectoids would never be able to progress to that extent. Even if humans did not intervene, within the worldview of the Insectoids, no one would be willing to allow their continued development. It seemed that a hierarchy had already formed among the Insectoids, and even subtle social relationships were beginning to emerge, much like humans gradually adapting and evolving the intelligence they were meant to possess.
While they had managed to fend off the Giant Blood Bat for a moment, such an impact would at most only injure it. To truly inflict serious damage, this level of contact was clearly insufficient. Although it appeared as if something was amiss, everyone soon felt the temperature drop—what could that mean?
A figure seemed to stand in front of the giant Bat, clad entirely in white from neck to boots. The sharp longsword he held reflected a cold granite pattern, refracting the murderous intent emanating from him. Never before had anyone encountered such a chilling aura of death; the longer one was immersed in it, the more intense it became. Often, even from several meters away, one would feel a tingling sensation on their scalp. This was the trait of an assassin, a quality that Freyr recognized all too well.
However, given the current situation, he could not afford to reminisce about the past; he could not recall anything at all. What was that man doing? He merely floated opposite the giant-winged Bat.
In stark contrast to that abyss-like murderous intent stood someone who showed no signs of backing down.
At some point, the man in white revealed a cold smile, but at that moment, no one noticed his action—nor was it surprising that they didn’t.
The attack from the man in white was not foolishly direct confrontation; after all, in terms of resistance, the giant-winged Bat's body towered over any technologically forged Alchemical shield from the very start—blades and guns were rendered completely ineffective.
After a brief standoff, the man in white moved swiftly.
Just then, Tang Bai's voice echoed hoarsely: "Close your eyes and don't look!"
At that command, some people hurriedly shut their eyes while others remained dazed, staring upward. Suddenly, an eerie orb of light appeared.
A white blade formed around the body of the man in white; in an instant, those lights shot directly toward their Retinas. The end connected to their nerves emitted an overwhelming sense of despair. The unfortunate ones found their eye sockets sinking deep as they clutched their throats and could not make a sound.
At this moment, Mackey knelt on the ground in a daze, motionless—like a stone that had sunk into despair.
