Soon, it became quiet again.
Perhaps the Straw Worm realized that continuing its rude behavior was not a solution.
"Finally, it's calmed down," Xiong Tai said awkwardly as he rubbed his forehead.
Freyr immediately pulled a glow stick from his pocket, twisting the hard plastic tube a few times.
A faint green glow finally emerged, illuminating the cave.
Seeing the light, Xiong Tai, being the first in the team who could eat, was not satisfied with the current situation. He moved aside some stones blocking the cave's entrance to create a gap, allowing fresh air to flow in quickly. This action was quite reasonable; circulating air was essential to prevent excessive carbon dioxide buildup that could lead to health issues. Furthermore, when people are in danger, their first instinct is to find a way out. However, without food to replenish their strength, they would likely find themselves trapped here before long.
Moreover, escaping the cave did not mean they were safe. To truly get out of this mountainous area, they would need transportation; otherwise, they might have to walk for a long time before encountering another human who could offer help. In fact, there were still monsters pursuing them, and with empty stomachs, their physical capabilities had already diminished significantly. The likelihood of not being able to escape was growing.
A frying pan was essential; nothing could be left behind. They needed seasonings, noodles, and frozen meat chunks to enhance their nutritional intake. Relying solely on dry food would not provide sufficient nourishment.
Additionally, in response to this unexpected situation, they had prepared a ton of fresh water. The water had already been compressed and stored in a bottle.
Xiong Tai animatedly began preparing what looked like a flavorful Spicy Hot Pot base, though there wasn't much in it.
Some frozen meat and noodles were included, and at the center were three or four compressed Flame Throwers. The nitrogen reserves inside could barely sustain a burn for about ten minutes; once depleted, they would need to be retracted. Now, with three or four compressed Flame Throwers positioned at the bottom of the frying pan, they heated evenly. Within just two minutes, a fragrant aroma wafted from the pot.
The Flame Throwers could reach temperatures of 1000 degrees Celsius, and once the food in the pot was cooked through, the sprayers could be set aside.
The glow stick had a limited lifespan of several hours, but Freyr had several more packed in his backpack. When night fell and he closed his eyes to sleep, he would wake up to light again. If those Straw Worms were still around by then, they would likely be exhausted too; taking advantage of that moment would increase their chances of escape.
If they couldn't escape, so be it; perhaps setting the entire forest ablaze was the best way out.
Although Yellow Plum was furious and the weather was unstable, if luck was on their side, it might just catch fire.
Once the food was ready, everyone quickly devoured the delicious dishes in the pot.
None of them wore watches, so they had no idea what time it was, but their bodies instinctively entered a standby state as they huddled together and fell asleep.
They had only hoped that if this situation continued until the second person arrived, it might be better, as there were still a few hours left until dawn.
Suddenly, strange sounds echoed again, coming from beneath the ground, resembling the noise of digging.
"Wake up, everyone wake up! Listen to that sound," Freyr was the first to awaken, immediately nudging Xiong Tai, who was sleeping soundly beside him.
Xiong Tai was deep in sleep and began mumbling curses in his sleep.
However, as long as he started cursing, at least he was awake. Freyr responded quickly and went to shake the others. "Stop sleeping! Something's happening."
"Just let me sleep a little longer."
Ross clung to Xiong Tai's thigh, rubbing it absentmindedly. It was hard to tell if he was dreaming too sweetly or simply reluctant to wake up.
"There's a beauty~"
Xiong Tai was completely awake now, though he had not been fully conscious just moments before.
But upon seeing Ross groping his thigh, a wave of discomfort surged through him.
He kicked Ross squarely in the face, causing Ross to let out a pained scream as he clutched his face and scrambled up from the ground, his expression one of innocent bewilderment as he looked around at the others.
"What happened?" Ross asked.
"Nothing, nothing," Xiong Tai quickly replied.
"I was dreaming about a chicken leg and you all woke me up! How are you going to compensate me for that?" Ross suddenly shouted in anger.
"Well, we had no choice. If we hadn't woken you up, you might have ended up down there eating chicken legs next year, and you could have choked on them," someone nearby responded.
As Ross continued to complain, the others quickly got to their feet and began gathering the scattered items on the ground.
In fact, they moved with remarkable speed, especially since that strange sound had already reached their feet, as if something was about to burst forth at any moment. That was what truly startled them.
It seemed they could no longer linger in this eerie place. Xiong Tai stuffed all the food into his backpack and forcefully pushed aside a stone, cautiously peering out into the open air. He discovered that the strange Straw Worms were nowhere to be seen outside. It seemed his guess had been correct, but what about those noises coming from underground? Could it really be the sound of those worms digging? If they could perform such actions, it appeared that the tutorial on the mountain was not entirely accurate; there were still too many unexplained phenomena.
"Alright, no more Straw Worms!" Xiong Tai exclaimed, pushing the stone further aside to create a gap wide enough for everyone to pass through.
Once everyone had squeezed through the opening, they took a deep breath. Indeed, the Straw Worms had vanished, but where they had gone remained a mystery.
"Mom, the sound seems to be getting closer!" Ross suddenly shouted as he dashed out of the cave.
"Hey!" Xiong Tai had already prepared, completely blocking the entrance with a large round stone. The outside was sealed off, making it impossible to enter or exit.
"Let's go; I don't know how long this stone can hold," Xiong Tai said, suddenly sprinting away. His speed was surprisingly quick for someone of his size.
The others didn't have the luxury to stand around and watch; they quickly followed suit and started running.
The stone appeared to be firmly in place. If those creatures realized that the humans were gone, they would surely rush out through the tunnel they had dug.
They needed to run as far as they could in this moment; otherwise, it might be too late.
"About four kilometers ahead, there's an off-road vehicle where we can stop. Let's take that car and get out of here," Freyr said, nervously scanning the road and making the calmest suggestion he could muster.
"Oh my gosh, I never want to come back to this place," Ross exclaimed, feeling uneasy as he hurried forward, forcing himself not to look back.
However, he noticed a large mass surging from behind in mid-air, prompting him to quicken his pace even more.
