Returning to the association, not much had changed; everything remained as it was. After grabbing a bite at the cafeteria, I savored a taste that was absent from the outside world. Although I occasionally cooked ribs, vermicelli, and hot pot broth, I still longed for the days of eating steamed buns and rice.
The flavor was indescribably delicious, and just eating was satisfying enough. This was the benefit of being alive; after completing a mission, I felt light and relaxed wherever I went. Once I adapted, I reported my situation at the Wanderer's Home.
At the Wanderer's Home, the management was still handled by the Golden and Silver Elders.
There didn’t seem to be anything unusual; it was just like before. Elder Jin was dozing off while Silver Granny gazed at the shadows cast by the doorway. Her pupils gradually widened; despite her hearing loss, her eyesight remained sharp. When she noticed someone entering, her demeanor perked up.
Old Jin, who had received a slap on his forehead, also woke up. His vision was often blurry, necessitating thick glasses to observe things clearly. If he were to break his glasses and couldn’t see what was in front of him, it would be as if his strength had halved—rendering him nearly useless on the battlefield.
At their age, they could have retired, yet both continued to serve the association—a spirit that was truly commendable.
It was evident that when tasks here were heavy, they would tire themselves out standing. Interestingly, there had been a significant decrease in hunters invited for tasks from the association.
These days were relatively quiet; busy phases always came in waves and wouldn’t remain consistently idle or hectic.
Everyone looked forward to this mission. Aside from the limited Reward Points imposed on them, they had also obtained valuable insect corpses. Even if they sold these surplus bodies off, they could fetch a good price.
However, although this approach seemed somewhat unethical—avoiding execution orders by selling off corpses—Freyr decided to confiscate all those bodies and convert them into Reward Points based on the current ratio.
The discoveries made were largely due to their quick thinking; they had wrecked an off-road vehicle along with a large amount of explosives. As a result, what could have been a lucrative mission turned into an unexpected setback right from the start—likely due to inadequate preparation.
The Soldier-Level Hunter Team made significant progress through this mission and could be considered to have officially graduated from their rookie phase.
However, they were not as prestigious as other ranks of Hunters. Although the current situation was arranged this way, it was fine; the future would always develop in a positive direction.
These individuals were in much better condition now. After more than ten efforts at adjustment, they had reached their best state. Aside from being less powerful than those from other teams, they primarily needed time to hone their skills; only then could their strength continue to improve.
"Submitting the mission," Freyr said as he presented the Hunter Team's achievements to Silver Granny, handing over a Merit Card.
"Oh? I remember this is your first mission, right? Well done! You've completed all ten Bounty Missions. Now, please hand over the ring as well," Silver Granny said, her eyes lighting up as she checked the Merit Card before continuing.
Freyr nodded slightly and, prompted by Silver Granny, hurriedly removed the ring from his index finger and returned it. They had already become quite familiar with each other, but it was only then that he remembered the special mission item granted during the transition period; it had to be returned in its original form once the mission was completed.
With the ring returned, Silver Granny's pupils glowed with excitement. She furrowed her brow slightly and replied, "According to the exchange ratio, for these extra values: a complete Straw Worm is worth 100 Reward Points; one missing its head is worth 40 Reward Points; and for a mutilated body, I estimate a total of 15 Reward Points. These Reward Points will be directly credited to your team's Merit Card."
"In addition, there are four Bounty Missions remaining that require confirmation through the footage from your cameras to determine if they were successfully executed. If you complete these commands, an additional 3 Reward Points will be credited to your achievements. Currently, there are six Bounty Missions left to complete, totaling a reward of 9 Reward Points." The administrator, Silver Granny, explained as she withdrew the Merit Card and scanned it against a nearby machine. Soon after, a notification appeared indicating an additional 0 Reward Points had been credited.
This was indeed uplifting since it represented the fruits of their teamwork. Now it was just a matter of distributing the benefits. Freyr had already thought about it; everyone deserved their fair share of credit. Alternatively, if possible, he considered using part of the rewards for team development purposes to make significant improvements to shared facilities. First and foremost, their vehicles needed comprehensive upgrades to meet Super Technology standards.
With such upgrades, they would avoid chaotic situations like those encountered previously. Imagine if luck had not been on their side back then; they might still be running on that long road today. Who knew how many insects they would encounter along the way? Just one could cost the team dearly; if there were a swarm, given that some insects exhibited pack behavior, the inevitable outcome for the team would be total annihilation.
The value of having a good vehicle became evident. The performance of that car was quite decent; both its engine and motor power had been upgraded to professional racing standards. Although it cost quite a bit, it was worth it to prepare for emergencies—after all, it wasn't a disposable product.
Once back home, he would likely just receive a scolding after presenting the bill. It wasn't too serious; he could simply owe them for now and pay back his family fund in installments once he received his salary from the association.
While this plan sounded good in theory, his family members were no pushovers either. There would be many expenses ahead on this journey. He had already bought two cars—one fully equipped with top-tier motors and engines—all modified into professional racing configurations.
In addition, there were those astonishing purchases; the billing statement had just been received, and the family’s consortium had already been informed of the expenses.
It’s worth noting that aside from company meetings and meals, the consortium didn’t usually have many expenditures.
Goodness, in less than half a month, they had spent over a million. It was likely that there would be some scolding when they returned.
“Hmm, welcome back to Wanderer's Home to accept more quests. We look forward to your efforts and growth,” Silver Granny continued to respond.
“Thank you, Granny. Goodbye.” Freyr and the others replied with concern to Silver Granny before turning and exiting Wanderer's Home.
