The Vice President felt quite helpless; he couldn't openly scold his mentor. He knew that those two would definitely pretend to be deaf, so he decided to save himself some trouble by simply tossing the Agreement onto the table for them to read. It was better for them to understand the situation on their own, as they should already be aware of the seriousness of the matter. Even Hilbert was starting to feel uneasy; his usual playful demeanor had long since vanished.
He had determined that among the young successors, Freyr was the most reliable, which was why he had made so many exceptions for him. However, growth needed to be gradual; one couldn't expect to swallow a whole feast at once. The current situation had spiraled beyond what he could handle alone. Above the association was the Human Alliance's Executive Government, and its departments were embedded within the Hunter Association.
As for the stories about these young successors, they had heard plenty from those around them. Even if he kept things under wraps, it would ultimately be of no use; they would find out eventually.
Upon returning to his office, which could only accommodate two people—the Vice President and the scatterbrained President—he was greeted by a lingering odor in the air. It was a mix of fried Stinky Tofu and aged whiskey, a smell he had grown accustomed to over time.
Today was a special day, with several individuals of notable status present. Yet Hilbert continued to prepare his peculiar dishes in the office. The people seated there were supposed to be serious individuals; no matter how unpleasant the smell was, they wouldn't engage in trivial conversation. In reality, they should have declined Hilbert's enthusiastic invitation; it was simply inappropriate to consume such food—was it even food?
Shouldn't they have something more upscale? Well, perhaps it was best not to dwell on that.
The Vice President was a busy man; having just returned from the House of Browsers, he found himself alone in the office now.
Otherwise, Hilbert would never have taken such an important occasion to test others with his culinary experiments; he merely wanted to assert his dominance over them.
These individuals were members of the Executive Government placed within the association by the Human Alliance. Sitting together at this moment meant they were likely discussing issues arising from recent mission failures.
"We must impose strict penalties; otherwise, we will face even more severe mistakes next time," one person immediately shook his head in response. An elderly man with graying hair spoke up. They had long desired to infiltrate the association.
However, due to the Vice President's prowess as a diplomat and this erratic President being known as the strongest man in a century—having lived long enough and seen much of the world—there were undoubtedly many supporters behind him.
Yet his position remained secure primarily because no one more capable had emerged to replace him. Now, however, suitable candidates had appeared, and it was unlikely that such a scatterbrained President could manage the association without causing significant issues right under his nose. This incident had become a catalyst for his downfall. Clearly, they had conducted offline investigations and handled numerous events quietly beforehand, primarily to avoid media exposure.
If they could find one or two testimonies from the beneficiaries, the situation would not be as deadlocked as it is now.
"Leave this to me. I will give you a reasonable explanation. I have already instructed them to stop their work and prepare for the handover. They can go home now," the Vice President said. Although his position was not particularly suited for speaking at this moment, he still played the best role in mediating the situation.
Hilbert nodded and calmly said, "Consider this matter resolved. I have also sent someone to mediate their family issues. Overall, handling it quietly is better than bringing it to the forefront. Just wait for news."
Beside them, another elder from the Executive Government, who was not easy to deal with, remarked sternly, "This does not count as handling it. We should follow legal procedures for review. It’s not that simple; those responsible must be investigated. Otherwise, these issues will keep arising. Do you think being President is that easy? Just look at how many things you've kept hidden during your time in charge. Listing your offenses would take more than a few sheets of paper. Do you really think you have the right to absolve others?"
These three individuals were clearly not here for a friendly chat, but this was just the beginning of a larger issue. Trouble was still ahead.
The outcome of the situation was not as simple as everyone had imagined. In fact, the Gold-Silver Combination had suddenly vanished, and despite thorough searches throughout the city, no trace of them could be found, as if they had disappeared from the Underground World entirely. This left the Executive Government puzzled; how could living people simply vanish?
If they couldn't find them, they would keep searching until they did. The fallout from this incident affected not only the association but also caused a sudden shift in the entire Human Alliance's stance. Wanderer's Home had been unable to find suitable management and had not accepted any tasks for quite some time.
Meanwhile, in the hospital's intensive care unit, two individuals entered a patient room. The nurse was taken aback and immediately said, "Who are you? You can't come in here without permission! Leave now, or I'll call for help!" As she spoke, one of the men pulled out an Executive Government contract Agreement, leaving the nurse even more stunned. "But... he's still injured and cannot be moved! I don't have the authority to let you take him."
"That's enough; he has to be taken away regardless," one of them replied. "Just get the Attending Physician over here to sign off on it; even the hospital director has already agreed."
At this point, the nurse became even more indifferent. She recognized the name of the director on the Agreement; she would never mistake his signature. So she quickly ran out to address this issue.
She was just an employee and couldn't take full responsibility as a nurse, but she felt accountable for the patient's life in her care. Therefore, she needed to find a doctor and obtain permission.
However, when she returned with a doctor to the intensive care unit, she discovered that everyone was gone—the patient had vanished from his bed as well. Panic set in even more deeply within her.
The attending physician felt quite helpless as well. Upon recalling his earlier thoughts, he first aimed to encourage the nurse beside him. "If the director is aware of this, you don't need to worry too much. Look, his agreement is still in place, right? The patient should be fine; just try not to feel too much pressure." With that, the doctor stepped out and took out his phone to make a call.
After being reassured, the nurse gathered her spirits and set about completing her tasks.
After all, the nursing profession demands a strong mindset; one must focus intently on their work to avoid any life-threatening incidents. Once her mindset was restored, she turned and headed towards another room.
