He was not particularly conflicted. The Gauss Weapon series was a high-end weapon under the Alchemical Weapon category. Looking at the price tag, it seemed reasonable to him. He said straightforwardly, "Let's go with this. I'll exchange for a few dozen boxes of Gauss Bullets. The dual-wielding capability is a form of suppression. Since we don't have any substantial skills yet, let's use this as your initial focus. Our team lacks firepower, so let your dual guns serve as the new source of firepower for the group. Everyone shouldn't feel too burdened; we share life and death together, fighting against the enemy. This approach is feasible."
Parker Parkinson nodded slightly and indicated, "The recoil on this gun is very strong. I'm not sure if I can adapt to it well. If I can't achieve the desired effect, it might be better to forget it."
Freyr shook his head and replied, "The team can still handle it. If you can't use it, just let me have it. If you can adapt, you'll still be able to use it well." As the Merit Card returned to his hand, he scanned through the terms when suddenly he heard a click sound. It seemed that a lock inside had been released, and two white-bottomed handguns lay on the ground—clearly the Gauss Pistols.
They felt weightless in his hands, but he was unsure how they would perform when firing in bursts. Logically, more powerful weapons should have significant recoil; for instance, pulse wave oscillators had tremendous force, and their waves could shatter rocks from a distance. A human body would seem as fragile as paper in front of such pulse waves.
At Freyr's signal, Parker quickly picked up the two Gauss Pistols from the ground. Feeling their lightness in his hands, he took a deep breath, and his furrowed brow relaxed as he felt pleasantly surprised.
Parker Parkinson likely did not realize that after long-term hormonal modifications to his body, his immunity and physique had improved significantly. Coupled with the body sculpting training, endurance training, and Ultimate training he had undergone recently, his strength was likely far beyond what it used to be. Adapting to the recoil of the Gauss Pistol should not pose too much of a problem now.
However, the most pressing issue remained the bullets. Gauss Bullets were quite precious—costing two Reward Points each—and with fifty rounds in a box, he had exchanged for twenty boxes at once. Even though he had twenty boxes now, he knew that they could be used up in less than an hour during firing. Therefore, if possible, they should use regular firearms until their opponents became significantly stronger. When facing enemies with tough armor that could withstand metal plates—even tanks—he believed that these handguns would be effective against them; after all, even if their foes were insects, their exoskeletons likely wouldn't be tougher than steel.
Despite the light weight of the Gauss Pistol initially causing some resistance in him, he soon found himself unable to part with it and developed an attachment to it.
"This gun is great; let me take it back to study its ballistic trajectory. Perhaps I can fully master its suitability," Parker Parkinson responded.
Freyr's expression darkened as he said, "You just said you didn't want it; I thought you had changed your mind. But it's fine; if you take this gun from me, it will probably become useless anyway. Take it back and test it thoroughly; I hope you won't feel too burdened. I'll give you two boxes of Gauss Bullets; that should be enough."
Parker Parkinson snatched the two metal boxes into his arms and replied eagerly, "Of course I want to use this! It's a great item! It's just unfortunate that there are too few bullets; using them for experiments feels extravagant. But since it's an experiment, I need to ensure that the gun behaves perfectly before taking it out on missions; otherwise, if it misfires later on, that would be quite embarrassing."
Others wanted to argue further but were stopped short; they turned back to observe the Counter instead.
To them, anything was fine, but the weapons in the Counter were what they truly desired. They didn't want to say much; it seemed that without the provocation of others, their grievances quickly dissipated.
With a light sigh, he turned his head and continued, "Alright, have you found any other weapons? It seems there are still plenty of Reward Points left, enough for about four exchanges."
The people over there also lowered their heads. Ross sat on the ground with the Shooting Sun in his arms, repeatedly wiping it down as if afraid to dirty it. Next to him, Maggie carefully selected her items and ended up choosing a peculiar chisel along with a very well-made toolbox filled with intricate parts, screws, and metal pieces—everything one could need. It was definitely more complete than any material box. Moreover, since this place specialized in selling materials, one could simply take whatever they wanted and swipe their card; everything could be directly stored in the Storage Ring.
"Are you planning to make refined Sulfur bombs? These materials are quite strange," Freyr remarked as he looked at the industrial materials, including Sulfur and various odd tools. He immediately had an idea and curiously asked, "Tell me the truth, Mackey. What did you do before? Were you in the military? These industrial materials could be considered contraband. If we exchange them directly for Score, it wouldn't be a problem; we could get as much as we want. What do you intend to do with them?"
"What do you think I'm going to do? You've already guessed it; do I need to say more? I was a Demolition Expert in the special forces, skilled in disarming bombs and assembling explosives. Laying mines and pulling wires are also my specialties." Mackey was clearly much older than the others, at least thirty-three years old now. His past military experience was nothing new to him. Thus, his goal in acquiring these items was to ease the overall burden on the team using methods he was most comfortable with. Indeed, bombs could be detonated remotely; once successfully triggered and hitting the target, it would significantly reduce the defensive pressure on their team.
However, other teams required hunters for immediate combat power. Although this configuration might not seem problematic, it appeared that they had everything they needed for mutual support and cooperation. In contrast, teams with well-rounded positions often faced high casualty rates in the future.
Yet some teams were still configured this way. Although the early casualty rate was relatively high, if they survived that period, their destructive power would not be low. Ultimately, their team's destructive capability could even restrain tribes of the Zerg.
After making their exchanges, they found that they had spent less than a thousand Reward Points. Perhaps due to being too low-key, Mackey had only spent a small portion of his Reward Points on strategic landmines last time. This indicated that his survival rate was currently the lowest among the team.
In the end, they agreed to exchange for a better Gene Endowment known as the Explosive Gene Gift.
It was a compressed gas that formed an Airflow bomb—initially driven by thought—by injecting a certain amount of Elemental Power to create a similar elemental bomb.
