"Now is the handover time."
Freyr said politely, "Yes, thank you for your hard work. Everything was safe this morning, and I'll leave the rest to you. You've worked hard this afternoon; we'll come by at the scheduled handover time."
"Mm, no need to be polite, everything is fine." The team on the other side was also members of the Soldier-Level Hunter Team, Division 08. Their Commander was a girl. The position of Commander is usually held by someone capable and shrewd, someone who can maintain control and is typically the strongest in the team. Generally, those with the greatest strength secure the Commander position. However, for a girl to become the favored one among several men and lead them as Commander clearly indicated she possessed unique skills. On one hand, she had an enchanting charm; her delicate voice and Loli-like figure made her a treasured gem in the eyes of men.
"Alright, Commander, we're heading out on patrol now. If you're tired, just take a break; leave the heavy lifting to us," one of the team members suddenly spoke up.
"Okay, you all go ahead. I'll be back after I finish talking," the woman said. Her name was Meng Luo, which sounded like a dream pursuit for many men. However, if her name suggested that, it shouldn't have led those men to compete to do her bidding.
The nearby team member nodded, and the tallest middle-aged man turned and left obediently.
"What’s your name? I'm Meng Luo, Commander of Division 08. If possible, we could be friends." Meng Luo smiled exaggeratedly upon seeing Freyr's true face, her smile seemingly carrying a hint of mischief.
"Squad Leader," Xiong Tai clearly had something to say but was cut off by Freyr before he could speak. He seemed to be holding back his words; his intense reaction was clearly triggered by seeing Meng Luo. Freyr found it puzzling; Xiong Tai usually had better composure than this. This woman was indeed extraordinary.
"I’m Freyr, Commander of Division 4 of the Soldier-Level Hunter Team. I look forward to working with you," Freyr replied with a slight smile.
"Do you have a partner? Are there any vacancies in your team? Can I join?" Meng Luo clearly approached the conversation with strong ambition. However, Freyr had no interest in her at all; it was evident that her intentions were not pure. Thus, maintaining distance and appropriately declining was the wisest course of action.
"Uh, I'm sorry, but after we return to our team, we have a meeting to attend, and our team is already at full capacity. I’m really sorry; we have to go now." Freyr felt inclined to retreat at this point; his excuses didn't seem forced at all.
However, Meng Luo understood that a man rejecting her beauty wasn't genuinely busy; men typically refuse women because they find them unattractive or because their personalities don't suit them—unless they truly had something else to attend to.
Those who use the last excuse are generally people who find it difficult to express their thoughts directly; they tend to be shy. However, a man like Freyr has a rather peculiar personality. He has no qualms about stating his needs; when there’s something to address, he does so openly without holding back.
As for Meng Luo, her thoughts about him might stem from the belief that he was simply too shy to accept her kindness, which is why she didn’t confront him directly and instead let him go.
“Hmph, that annoying man! He really is bothersome, but he’s also quite interesting. My luck with romance has been great lately; I need to seize this opportunity,” Meng Luo responded with a smile before turning around and disappearing from the Tower.
In a rush, they hurried down from the Tower, each of them instinctively panting heavily. At the same time, the aura radiating from that woman was distinctly different; it disrupted their composure, an effect they had never experienced before.
Xiong Tai, who was not accustomed to women, felt particularly frustrated. It felt as if a deer was jumping around in his chest, making him appear more nervous than anyone else. Without thinking, he stumbled a few steps before sitting down on the ground, prompting Ross to mockingly ask if he had a crush on her. His face turned red; it seemed he had indeed fallen under her spell.
“What on earth? That’s not just any woman; she’s clearly a seductress!” Ross exclaimed.
“Alright, enough of that. Let’s head back,” Freyr said dismissively. Everyone understood that Meng Luo seemed more interested in Freyr; her intentions were straightforward. A woman could capture a man’s heart with just a glance, while a man would have to exert all his efforts just to earn a fraction of her affection—an affection that would likely diminish over time with prolonged interaction.
The others glanced over casually, especially Relock, whose expression toward Freyr shifted slightly. Before long, they all entered the tent, and Freyr lay down on the bed and fell asleep immediately.
He felt utterly exhausted after these past few days; his sleep had been minimal, and even the rare moments of rest felt hard-earned.
Seeing the Commander lying on the bed and soon snoring softly, the others dared not speak loudly. They quietly stepped outside and lowered the curtain at the entrance of the tent.
“Let him sleep; he looks genuinely tired. What should we do now? Let’s find something to occupy ourselves,” Mackey suggested as he stepped out.
“Right, that’s exactly what I meant. Does anyone have any ideas?” Ross asked. “Xiong Tai, as Vice Captain, it’s your job to give our team some direction. Now is your time to shine as Vice Captain; we’ll follow your lead.”
Then they asked Xiong Tai, but he seemed to be caught off guard. It wasn't until everyone instinctively looked at him that he gradually came to his senses and stammered, "You're right, you all should do as you wish. Hehe, I have something to attend to, so I'll be leaving now."
"Uh, we were actually asking you to come up with a plan," Ross shouted.
"Hey, what plan could I possibly have? You're just messing around. If you want to do something, are you worried there won't be anything to do? You're really funny. I have something I need to take care of right now, so feel free to do as you please—whether it's eating or training. Is your skill good enough? Better than mine? No? Then go train," Xiong Tai replied.
"That's true; let's go train," Ross said, giving Maggie a knowing glance before linking arms with Relock and heading back.
"Let's go then." Xiong Tai said nothing more and turned to leave.
"Hey, let's follow him. We don't have anything else to do anyway. Something seems off about him since he came back; it looks like he's got his eye on someone," Ross whispered sneakily behind.
