"Uh, wait a minute, I think I've been waiting for someone like you," Ross immediately spoke up.
With a glance, the two of them met face to face.
However, Nosty's outfit was indeed quite unique, very different from what one would expect.
"Yes, that's me, Nosty," the person replied without hesitation. Their personality seemed to have changed drastically; it was as if they were two different people. Could someone's character really vary this much?
"No way, you're not Nosty. Why are you wearing a straightjacket? Are you a mental patient?" Ross scanned the other person from head to toe. It was hard not to misunderstand with that outfit.
That was clearly a straightjacket. This person was obviously trying to deny it. Mental patients often try to argue and prove they aren't mentally ill or that they are someone else. In contrast, truly normal people appear calm and composed because they have nothing to hide; their thoughts and actions are distinctly different.
"I was playing a game with my patient, and I almost swapped identities with him. I'm wearing clothes underneath; I'll take it off and show you," Nosty said with a smile.
As he began to unfasten the straps of the straightjacket, he had already managed to free himself from it.
Ross hurriedly opened his eyes, expecting to see a bare body but was surprised to find that underneath he wore a perfectly tailored suit, not a wrinkle in sight. However, considering this blind man moved around in the dark all night, how could he manage to keep his suit so pristine? It was as if it were imprinted on his body; it seemed quite strange.
But perhaps this was what they called first impressions. The initial impression people make on each other creates a sense of distance between them. However, things are not always absolute; it could be that this person initially motivated by disguise wanted others to mistakenly believe he was a well-dressed, competent man. But ultimately, this was just a facade. Ross despised vain people; that suit might have been bought just for show and never worn before, with tags freshly ripped off. His hair and shoes must have taken considerable time to arrange or perhaps someone helped him dress.
He wasn't particularly optimistic about disabled individuals; having someone like this along for the journey would indeed be quite troublesome.
Yet in reality, his assumptions were mistaken. "Wow, I didn't expect you could achieve this level. I've heard from Commander that you're... well, how should I put it... disabled? I didn't realize you could be so different. Your living space is quite unique too; have you sorted everything out? Let me help you with your suitcase. From now on, you'll be our new teammate. Looking forward to working together! My name is..."
At the same time, unexpectedly, the conversation was interrupted. "Uh, you're Ross, right? The one from the Hundred Flowers?" Nosty said without hesitation. "I already know who you are, even without you telling me."
The other party spoke with confidence and began with familiar pleasantries. Complimenting him was certainly accurate, but there seemed to be something off. His name was so well-known that even those with mental issues recognized it; it truly was thunderous in its fame. It made one think of the struggles he must have faced.
Ross didn't show much shock on his face or in his thoughts. He had heard about the abilities mentioned by Commander before coming here. It was part of his unique skill set—Psychic Sensory User—specializing in communication. If it weren't for his blindness, he might have had a better path ahead and wouldn't have been unable to advance after completing his military service due to this inherent obstacle.
"Uh, no need for that. I can manage," Nosty smiled and then got into the car with a box in hand.
"Really? You can see? That's so strange! How do you do it? You seem just like anyone else!" Ross was genuinely surprised because if he hadn't known beforehand that Nosty was blind, he would never have noticed any disability related to sight.
"Uh, that's my ability. Although I can't see, my sense of touch and smell are extremely sensitive. In my mind, I already knew there was a car in front of me. After simulating it, I tried to touch it with my hand and surprisingly passed on the first try. Without a doubt, this car isn't as complicated as I thought; it's just a regular vehicle as described by normal people. I expected you all would at least come to pick me up in a tank or something! That would have been quite impressive! But when you came to get me, I didn't feel any other vehicles around. Okay, maybe you're just teasing me to make me happy," Nosty chuckled and explained.
His current behavior wasn't wrong at all; he was acting just like anyone else. Over the years, he had put in considerable effort to adapt to society.
After developing in the field of Brain science, he cautiously simulated daily life bit by bit to fit into society and not be perceived as incomplete. He spent an entire year improving his understanding of normal behaviors.
Perhaps adapting to society or responding to environmental changes varies from person to person. While most could rely on self-sufficiency for normal living, Nosty had to adapt while simultaneously simulating experiments. Now, he appeared quite normal in many aspects; as long as he wasn't dealing with specific tasks, he didn't have to worry too much about others uncovering his true nature.
"It sounds impressive! I think I'm getting enchanted by it all! But that's good; I want to learn more about you. You seem like you've had quite a journey yourself. However, this isn't something you can handle alone; let's do some simple tests first. I'll explain everything in detail during the ride. Just follow my instructions, and you'll pass," Ross said. It seemed that his first impression of Nosty was quite positive overall—motivated and thoughtful—making him realize he might have underestimated those below him before.
If only he could transform into someone like Nosty himself; perhaps he wouldn't feel so overwhelmed by life’s pressures. Yet smiling while confronting life and its challenges is something many find hard to understand.
Maybe that was part of Nosty's charm; Commander might have been right to bring him on board as a new teammate for their journey ahead. After all, Nosty had already passed this initial test successfully.
"Drive faster, I love feeling the sound of the wind," Nosty in the passenger seat said eagerly.
"You enjoy adapting to the speed of a fast car?" Ross asked, somewhat confused, but he was still curious about what Nosty was thinking and decided to follow along.
"Well, I often simulate the situations I might encounter while driving in my mind. This is my first time sitting in the passenger seat, and I want to record everything. It might come in handy later," Stitch rambled on, sounding somewhat distracted.
