I crouched down to closely examine the two corpses, trying to determine what could have caused their terrifying deaths. The wounds on their faces were jagged, resembling bite marks.
Inside, it seemed there was a mix of black insects. I pulled a pen from my bag to pry open the decaying flesh, curious to see what these black insects looked like.
Suddenly, something strange happened.
The corpse beneath my hands opened its eyes.
Two blood-red eyes stared directly at me, causing me to stumble back in shock.
Then, the corpse sat up abruptly and lunged toward me.
Oh no, it was a corpse trick!
I took off running as fast as I could.
To my surprise, this creature was incredibly fast for a corpse. It reached out and grabbed my shoulder, a wave of foul odor hitting me like a brick.
I felt nauseous, nearly vomiting.
I quickly crouched down to evade its grasp; otherwise, its sharp claws would have dug into my shoulder.
This corpse had died under unknown circumstances, its fingers entirely black. If those fingers caught me, I would surely be infected with corpse poison.
Corpse poison was a serious matter; if not handled correctly, it could lead to death at any moment.
With a tearing sound, my clothes were ripped apart by its hand.
Although he lacked thought, he could sense my presence because he could smell the Yang Qi on me.
I took a couple of steps, and he lunged at me again.
To shake him off, I had no choice but to draw my gun and aim for his head.
"Bang! Bang! Bang..."
All three bullets struck his head, filled with Polluted Blood, yet this guy still didn't fall; he managed to stand up and reach out towards me.
With no other option, I shot at his legs.
After hitting each leg once, he finally knelt on the ground.
Though he couldn't run, he continued to crawl towards me.
However, at this speed, I didn't need to worry; I just had to avoid him.
With no grievances or desire to trouble him, I walked ahead alone.
Passing through the corridor, I came upon another stone door.
This stone door hadn't been opened. I was familiar with the mechanisms of the Qin Dynasty, so this door posed no difficulty for me.
The challenge was that I couldn't open it alone because it required one person to press the Button firmly while another slowly turned the Wheel of the stone door until it matched completely.
Since they were all missing, I had no choice but to find someone before returning to open this door.
Just as I turned back along my path, I suddenly heard a piercing scream coming from the left passage.
As soon as I heard the voice, I recognized it was Mingyue's. Without hesitation, I sprinted towards the direction from which the sound came.
However, as I got closer to her location, I suddenly sensed something was off.
Oh no, my concern has led me astray; I'm about to be deceived.
In the art of Qimen Dunjia, there exists a method to record sounds and replay them continuously at a specific location.
Mingyue is in trouble. That scream was indeed her voice, but the incident must not be happening here.
Fortunately, I hadn't entered yet; otherwise, it would have been too late to retreat.
A rustling sound sent chills down my spine, and it felt eerily familiar.
Sure enough, as I worried, dark spiders began to swarm around me.
Damn it, I knew it was this kind of thing.
This is bad; everyone has their own fears, and I'm no exception.
Since childhood, I've been terrified of these hairy insects. What am I supposed to do now?
Step on them? I'd rather die than do that.
Just as I hesitated, a sudden voice broke through the tension around me.
"You're a mother now, and still so timid."
In the moment I turned around, I saw that captivating face that could bewitch anyone.
He wore a tight-fitting black silk shirt, with sharp brows and bright eyes. His handsome features were accentuated by his slightly pursed thin red lips, and his expression appeared somewhat cold. Yet, in those dark eyes that were fixed on me, there was a hint of tenderness.
"What are you doing here?" Although I felt a flicker of surprise and sweetness in my heart upon seeing him, my stubborn mouth twisted the words.
Fortunately, his expression didn’t seem to change much as he silently walked over. "If you can come, why can't I?"
His words left me momentarily speechless, and I lowered my head intentionally to avoid looking at him.
The spiders on the ground were getting closer and closer, with several already crawling onto my feet.
I was so frightened that I kept hopping from foot to foot, while he quietly leaned against the wall, showing no intention of helping me, which made me feel a bit frustrated.
I wanted to call for his help but couldn’t bring myself to say it.
Stealing glances at him, it was as if he couldn’t see me at all; his eyes wandered elsewhere and didn’t meet mine.
The spiders were now swarming towards me, a whole battalion reaching my feet.
Goosebumps began to rise all over my body; my face was important, but my life was more important.
Without thinking twice, I dashed toward Mu Xuanche's direction and leaped into his arms.
Fortunately, he was quick to react and caught me effortlessly.
"Wife, does this count as throwing yourself into my arms?"
His voice rang out above me, and my face flushed bright red as I nestled into his embrace.
"Who is your wife?" I retorted in a low voice.
As soon as he heard that, he seemed ready to let go of me. Out of the corner of his eye, he caught sight of the furry spiders on the ground, and I quickly clung tighter to his neck, screaming.
"Ah, what are you doing?"
He lifted me a bit higher, and I looked up at his face. Although he was very handsome, I preferred Mu Xuanche's face over that of the Island Master.
"Can you change back to your original form for me to see?" My voice was barely audible.
But I knew he heard me because he frowned and looked at me. "It's not the right time yet."
His words made my heart sink. I didn't even know why I was so easily affected like this.
I coldly replied with a single word, "Oh," my voice tinged with disappointment.
Suddenly, he lifted my chin.
As our eyes met, he leaned down. I originally wanted to turn my face away, but he held me in place.
Just like that, his warm lips pressed against mine.
His agile tongue pried open my lips and delved inside, entangling with mine intensely.
I felt as if all the air in my body had been drawn out; I could hardly breathe until he slowly released me.
He gently kissed my forehead, continuously brushing against me, making me feel his presence.
Warm lips slowly brushed against my ear, grazing my earlobe as he whispered softly, "I really want you."
For the first time, I felt his warmth and breath. Nestled in his embrace, listening to his heartbeat, I could truly confirm that he had come back to life.
"Can you tell me why you were able to come back? Wasn't it supposed to require Chang'an's blood?"
"Yes, it does require Chang'an's blood, but instead of using heart's blood, I used umbilical cord blood. The Black Jade Pearl taken from the Qin General's Tomb can convert blood and help me revive."
His magnetic voice lingered around my ear, deep and melodious.
So there was another reason he had to go to the Qin General's Tomb.
He held me as we walked out, quietly leaning against him, allowing him to carry me away.
I lost track of how many turns we took or how many circles we walked.
We finally stopped at the end of an alley. After he gently set me down, the atmosphere around him turned cold again.
The earlier tenderness vanished, replaced by that proud and imperious demeanor of the Island Master.
Unsure of his intentions, I could only stay quietly by his side, maintaining a distance.
He reached out and struck the wall forcefully several times, causing it to collapse with a thunderous crash.
Noticing his hand hanging at his side, he subtly gestured for me to follow. I immediately complied and stepped forward.
Upon entering, I discovered a massive pit ahead, filled with a strong stench of decay.
As I leaned over to take a look, I realized the pit was filled with Pythons—each one as thick as a thigh.
The bright moon fell without anyone noticing, and a Python with its mouth wide open was about to swallow it.
Startled, I quickly drew my gun and fired wildly at the snake's head.
I had to thank Mu Xuanche for forcing me to practice my shooting skills earlier; otherwise, I would have surely hit the moon instead.
For the moment, I managed to drive the giant snake back, but it caught the attention of other snakes in the Cave, all of them lunging toward the moon.
This left her pale with fear as she shouted at me, "Yan Xi, hurry and save me! I'm terrified of snakes! Come save me!"
Going down there now would only make me another meal for the snakes. With no other choice, I had to seek help from those around me.
"Island Master, please save my sister!"
