Upon returning to the house, Cheng Xi and Monet were nowhere to be found. Su Ruolan couldn't help but ask, "Zero, where are they?"
"I was with Cheng Xi, consulting her opinion. Cheng Xi didn't hesitate to try merging with the Red Core, and Monet went along to protect her." Zero knew that avoiding this situation was impossible, so she spoke plainly.
"How could you do that? What if something happens to Cheng Xi? I thought I made it clear that I would work hard." Su Ruolan's concern turned into impatience as she scolded Zero. Just as she was about to head out to find Cheng Xi and stop her from doing something foolish—merging with the Core was a Narrow Escape—Su Ruolan didn't want anyone around her to face life-threatening risks for her sake; she would rather bear the burden herself.
At that moment, Su Ruolan felt a violent wave of energy surge through her soul, strong enough to sever their connection. This indicated that Cheng Xi was at a critical point in merging with the Core. Su Ruolan felt anxious but helpless; at this stage, there was no way to halt the process without causing immense harm to Cheng Xi's body and mind. All she could do was pray silently. The waiting was torturous, each minute stretching infinitely as Su Ruolan quickly searched for Cheng Xi and Monet along their soul connection. Suddenly, a rush of energy flooded into her body, making her feel invigorated. She sat down to regulate her breathing. After completing several cycles of energy flow, each Ability had increased somewhat. Although there was no Gold Element within her, the energy feedback from Cheng Xi nourished her Water Element power well; her Ice Element Ability was nearing its peak. When she opened her eyes, she saw Monet carrying an unconscious Cheng Xi not far away.
Monet's massive wolf head bowed submissively, as if aware it had done something wrong, looking innocently at Su Ruolan.
Seeing the unconscious Cheng Xi, Su Ruolan shot a cold glance at Monet without saying a word and turned to leave.
Monet hurriedly followed, careful not to let Cheng Xi fall off. Internally, it grumbled about never wanting to board their pirate ship again; it found its master’s anger quite terrifying.
Despite the bumpy ride on the wolf's back, Cheng Xi felt it was worth it. She secretly gave Monet a thumbs-up gesture; it had done well pretending to be pitiful—Sister Su wouldn't blame them now.
With a sigh of relief, Cheng Xi felt grateful that everything turned out fine. Su Ruolan dreaded seeing a young girl perish for her sake. Perhaps after experiencing so much, she realized that despite once thinking herself alone and unencumbered, she had unknowingly formed many attachments. Thoughts of that handsome young man and the Platinum Golden Eagle he had given her before her departure filled her mind with determination. Runzhou, I believe you will wait for me patiently. Qin Zhi Han has shown me friendship; now that he is in trouble, I cannot turn my back on him.
Upon returning to their base camp, Su Ruolan saw Li Yuxuan pacing at the entrance with a large pack on her back. Upon noticing Su Ruolan and the others returning, she excitedly approached them. "Company Commander, you're finally back! Have you made up your mind?"
"Since you've packed everything up, doesn't that confirm my thoughts?" Su Ruolan smiled at Li Yuxuan. Her previously cool demeanor transformed like blooming orchids, exuding a faint fragrance that was refreshing and heartwarming. With no more inner turmoil, Su Ruolan felt incredibly resolute and determined in her decision.
"Yes, I knew Company Commander wouldn't let me down." Li Yuxuan cheered and went to find Kong Xiang. Fortunately, she turned back to say goodbye; she didn't expect Sister Ruo Lan to be such a remarkable woman, very loyal and righteous. Honestly, setting out alone made her fear that if she didn't have someone to rely on, she might end up being wiped out by Zombies and mutated plants and animals.
Together with Qin Uncle, she was on a mission to find the Huaxia Four Corps. They had agreed on a meeting point and a secret signal before parting ways with Su Ruolan and the Huaxia Corps. During this time, they had been eliminating large groups of Zombies and engaging in guerrilla warfare against the Government Army. Su Ruolan learned a lot about military tactics; although their time together was short, it provided her with valuable military training. Many members of the Huaxia Corps were reluctant to see Su Ruolan go, especially after their separation when their longing reached its peak. Their luck had been extraordinary while they were together; almost every search yielded results. Although food was scarce, they always managed to find just enough to eat—whether it was white rice, fruits, dried fruits, or compressed biscuits. They even encountered some Mutated Animals, which could be roasted and eaten. The soldiers who hadn't had meat in months were practically drooling, eager to devour every morsel. The injured soldiers seemed to recover slowly but steadily; by the time Su Ruolan left, all 1,000 soldiers had surprisingly healed completely, which left everyone in awe. After her departure, they no longer enjoyed such good fortune. As they gnawed on tree bark, they all missed Su Ruolan immensely and reminisced about those brief moments of being well-fed, secretly referring to her as the "Goddess of Luck," hoping she would return soon.
Turning northward, their destination was H Base. Without any vehicles, Su Ruolan and her companions could only proceed on foot.
"You've been so good to the Huaxia Corps, secretly providing them with so many supplies from your space. Don't you feel bad? You used up two-thirds of your hard-earned stockpile in one go—talk about being wasteful! If you don't start gathering supplies again soon, you'll end up broke. Luckily, the water from the lake was diluted for them; otherwise, if hundreds of Ability users suddenly appeared, I'd love to see how you'd handle that," Reset grumbled.
"Alright, I promise I'll work hard to cultivate my abilities and gather supplies. Honestly, I can't help but be nice to them knowing they're the elite troops from Runzhou. If they grow stronger, it means better protection for Runzhou. Plus, I really like the way this team operates; the atmosphere is great. Even though there are ranks among them, don't you think they value equality more? I noticed that Qin Vice Commander wears the same uniform as the regular soldiers and has no special treatment regarding food or lodging. I just knew that Runzhou was exceptional; the team he leads is outstanding." When Su Ruolan spoke of Qi Runzhou, her heart brimmed with joy and admiration; her eyes sparkled with love. Fortunately, only Reset witnessed this side of her; otherwise, others might suspect that Su Ruolan had been reborn or something similar—though that was indeed the truth.
"I can't believe it! Is Qi Runzhou really that great? Have you considered that after being apart for so long, he might have found another woman? After all, he's so exceptional; there must be plenty of women who admire him," Reset couldn't help but tease.
"That's impossible! He made a vow when we got married: 'Since we are together, we will never betray each other in this lifetime.'" Su Ruolan replied without hesitation. "Besides, we have two children together; he must be looking for our daughter, Rose."
Seeing this conviction in her eyes made Reset swallow her words. She hoped that this Qi Commander truly felt as deeply for her as Ruo Lan did for him; only then would he earn her approval.
