Before long, a message spread from Xu Qiubai's aide, distorted into the rumor that "the traitor Qin Zhi Han has been captured; he is a high-ranking official of the Huaxia Army and will soon be publicly tried and executed, showing everyone that opposing the government leads to a grim fate."
Qin Zhi Han, who was preparing to report to Zhang Yu's tent, froze upon hearing this. What was going on? Had Zhang Yu discovered his true identity and was waiting for him to walk into a trap?
"That can't be right. My illusion is very effective; unless it's lifted, no one can see your true self. What's happening?" Cyan Flame said, puzzled.
After thinking for a moment, Qin Zhi Han decided to investigate further. If he left now, it would only confirm his identity. As he entered the tent, he was startled by Zhang Yu's smile. "You’re here. My original guard is unavailable for now, so you’ll stay in the bed outside mine from now on."
"Alright." Qin Zhi Han was somewhat surprised. Was this surveillance? Did Zhang Yu fear he would escape? But seeing Zhang Yu's calm demeanor made him wonder what game was being played.
"Young Commander, the rumors outside have spread, but they’ve been misreported. Initially, it was said that Qin Zhi Han's girlfriend Milu had been captured; now it has changed to Qin Zhi Han himself being caught. These fools can’t even get this right," Xu Qiubai said angrily.
"Did they really get it wrong? I doubt it. We should find out who misreported it and amplified the impact to cause this uproar; perhaps we can catch a River Fish in the process," Zhang Yu said while looking at the map, casually marking points.
"Yes, that works too. Not only can we lure out remnants of the Huaxia Army, but we might also draw out River Fish. Who knows? Qin Zhi Han might even walk into our trap—killing two birds with one stone! Young Commander, your wisdom is unmatched; we are far behind," Xu Qiubai understood immediately and felt an inexplicable surge of excitement at the thought of possibly capturing Qin Zhi Han.
So that was the situation. Qin Zhi Han felt relieved; they hadn’t discovered his true identity. However, this information was false and needed to be spread quickly; otherwise, it would be troublesome if the Huaxia Army came to rescue him.
Clack, clack—the sound of high heels approached. "Young Commander, are you there?" Peach Blossom's alluring voice rang from outside.
"Go ahead and open the curtain," Zhang Yu instructed Qin Zhi Han.
Peach Blossom swayed her curvy waist as she walked in, smiling as she said, "Young Commander, I heard that my cousin was unjustly captured by the patrol team. Could you please let her go?" As she spoke, she moved closer to Zhang Yu, tracing circles on his chest with her finger.
Qin Zhi Han felt quite awkward and lowered his head, hesitating whether to step outside.
Zhang Yu did not expect Peach Blossom to be so bold and uninhibited, behaving this way in front of other soldiers. He lightly touched his nose, cleverly turned away to escape the ambiguous atmosphere, and said, "Peach Blossom, who is your cousin? The patrol team wouldn’t just capture someone for no reason. Are you sure you’re not mistaken?"
"How could I be mistaken? My cousin is Milu! She was just taken by the patrol team. Please make an exception and let me take her away. The old man only has this one legitimate granddaughter; she might have been spoiled and made a mistake," Peach Blossom replied, turning back to lean against Zhang Yu again while batting her eyelashes seductively. However, she suddenly noticed another soldier in the room and jumped in surprise, angrily exclaiming, "Who are you? This soldier is so rude! You came in without saying a word and scared me!"
Zhang Yu and Qin Zhi Han both looked bewildered. Qin Zhi Han lifted the curtain for her, and her words seemed to indicate she had just noticed him there. Zhang Yu was puzzled; how could someone be so blind as not to see a living person right there? Meanwhile, Qin Zhi Han was startled—why did Cyan Flame's illusion work on others but frequently fail with Zhang Yu? It always managed to attract his attention; what was going on? Qin Zhi Han couldn’t help but ask in his mind.
It was unclear; there were two possibilities. One was that Zhang Yu's ability surpassed Cyan Flame's significantly, allowing him to ignore the illusion. The other was that he possessed a rare treasure that weakened the effect of illusions. Either way, it wasn’t good news for Qin Zhi Han; he needed to hide his true nature even more carefully.
"You should leave for now," Zhang Yu waved at Qin Zhi Han, signaling him to go out.
Qin Zhi Han responded with a "Yes" and left. The situation had become clearer: although Zhang Yu had taken H Base, he had not gained favor with the Zombies. The Zombies were growing stronger and had formed their own organization that was becoming increasingly human-like. If this continued, humanity's fate would be dire, and survival would become even more difficult. Humanity could not afford internal strife any longer; it would be best if they could reach a cooperative agreement. He wondered if Huaxia Military Headquarters could come to a consensus with Dai Government. Did Dai Government even realize the current predicament of humanity? They couldn’t keep raising their swords against their own kind; they should unite all forces to fight against the Zombies instead of splitting up and fighting alone.
"Young Commander, what will it take for you to release my cousin? I’m willing to do anything you ask," Peach Blossom said as she began to loosen her collar, revealing her fair shoulder.
Zhang Yu placed his hand over hers gently, slowly pulling her clothing back into place while ignoring the look of surprise that replaced her seductive gaze. He gazed deeply into her eyes and said earnestly, "Every woman's body deserves respect. Although I appreciate beauty, I will not take advantage of someone in need. Milu is part of Squad; if you can persuade her to tell me about the Zombie antidote situation, I will definitely let her go."
"You know about it already?" Peach Blossom was genuinely surprised this time.
"What do you mean by 'know'? I know you are the leader of Jiang Faction at H Base. I also know that when our city was under siege, your group contributed as well," Zhang Yu replied with a smile, though his gaze was sharp as a blade. "We eliminated Huaxia Army according to protocol because they are non-governmental armed forces threatening political stability; however, S Base and G Base are regular troops. If they stab us in the back now that H Base has fallen into Zombie hands, do you think that's good for humanity? I actually believe you still have some humanity left in you; I hope you can consider the bigger picture. If we can share the Zombie antidote information, we could eliminate the Zombies sooner and save humanity—our lives could return to normal sooner too. What do you think?"
Peach Blossom never expected that Zhang Yu was fully aware of what she had been doing behind the scenes, leaving her feeling flustered. She swayed slightly, leaning against the edge of the table. "Let me think, just give me a moment. I really didn't anticipate all of this," she murmured, lowering her head in silence. After a while, she suddenly looked up at Zhang Yu. "I am just a woman, and there are many things I don't see clearly or think deeply about. However, Milu's grandfather saved my life and raised me; I cannot turn a blind eye to her. I can go to Milu, but I can't guarantee there will be any results."
"Thank you for your understanding," Zhang Yu said joyfully, his excitement causing him to grasp Peach Blossom's hand.
Peach Blossom's face suddenly flushed. This was not an act of coyness; it was a genuine shyness that arose from being respected.
