"Now, please let Deputy Commander Su join us to meet Captain Qin Wujiao and clarify the matter regarding Commander Li," Ma Commander said.
Seeing the situation suddenly change, Su Ruolan was shocked to learn that Qin Zhi Han had been relieved of her duties because of this incident. She was eager to uncover the truth, so she led Ma Commander, Deputy Commander Zhang, Qin Zhi Han, and Li Yuxuan to meet Qin Wujiao.
"Ruo Lan, you all have arrived," Qin Wujiao said with great joy upon seeing Su Ruolan and the others. His gaze flickered with anticipation as he looked at Qin Zhi Han, hoping she would call him 'Dad.' However, Qin Zhi Han merely stared at him in silence. A fleeting look of disappointment crossed her face before she lifted her eyes again, which now sparkled with determination. "Ruo Lan, what brings you here this time?"
"Uncle Qin, I previously mentioned the situation regarding Commander Li from the Huaxia Four Corps. Could you please recount what happened at that time?" Su Ruolan asked.
"You all must be from the Huaxia Four Corps. There's no need to hide it; I've figured it out. The death of Commander Li is actually not directly related to us, but there is some connection," Qin Wujiao said with a heavy sigh.
What does that mean? Could it really be an order from the Huaxia Military Headquarters? Ma Commander, Deputy Commander Zhang, and Li Yuxuan felt their muscles tense up. Qin Zhi Han's right hand also clenched tightly, veins bulging as her anxiety grew.
"When we received the information about exterminating zombies, our team intercepted a strange message along the way. It indicated that the Huaxia Military Headquarters was sending someone to meet us. However, when we arrived at the rendezvous point, there was no central envoy in sight. We found it odd but proceeded to eliminate the zombies anyway. During that mission, we clashed with the Government Army and intercepted intelligence indicating that our mission was complete and that Li Wenzhi was dead. We were shocked and prepared to return, but then we were attacked by the Fourth Regiment, resulting in many casualties. We mistakenly killed innocents amidst all the chaos; they refused to listen to our explanations. We never figured out why the Fourth Regiment denied us access back to base and aggressively targeted A Group's personnel. To minimize unnecessary losses, our route home was cut off, forcing us to continue northward," Qin Wujiao recounted.
"So you're saying that Commander Li's death has nothing to do with your Huaxia Army? It might have been a scheme by G Base?" Deputy Commander Zhang couldn't help but ask.
"We need to clarify who the envoy was at that time and whether it was indeed the one who came to our base. If so, it proves that he was sent by the Huaxia Military Headquarters and is responsible for Commander Li's death. If not, we will continue investigating for the truth," Ma Commander replied.
"We don't know who the envoy was besides Qi Commander; he handled all the paperwork in question. We only know the location but never saw anyone," Shao Jie added.
"Then does that mean we still need to go together to Base B?" Li Yuxuan pressed for clarification.
"Only by seeing the Qi Commander can we understand the whole story," Qin Wujiao affirmed.
"Alright, we'll trust you this time. We've already waited so long; what's a little more time?" Ma Commander said. "Then we'll take our leave for now."
"I didn't expect things to be so complicated. I thought Captain Qin would know the truth, but it seems it's much more convoluted than I imagined," Su Ruolan said with a wry smile, shaking her head.
"It's alright. As long as we uncover the truth, it will all be worth it," Qin Zhi Han said, patting Su Ruolan on the shoulder. "I have a feeling that Commander Li's death is part of a conspiracy, but it shouldn't be related to the Huaxia Military Headquarters."
