At that moment, Su Ruolan suddenly felt a void in her mind. What was the point of struggling to live? What was the purpose of existing in this cold, despairing world?
Just then, a group of Zombies approached Su Ruolan, shuffling closer and slowly surrounding the Jeep, attempting to pry open the car doors.
Su Ruolan sat dazed inside the vehicle, oblivious to everything happening outside.
Qin Zhi Han sensed something was off with Su Ruolan and quickly jumped into another car to chase after her. However, the fuel was running low, and after driving for a while, the car sputtered to a stop. Frustrated, he kicked the tire and looked at the empty highway ahead. With no other option, he followed the tire tracks slowly. When he finally spotted Su Ruolan's vehicle from a distance and began to smile in relief, his heart sank at the sight that shattered his soul. "No, no! Ruo Lan, fight back! Fight back!"
The Zombies managed to pry open the car door and dragged Su Ruolan out. One of them opened its mouth wide and lunged at her.
Su Ruolan's expression remained indifferent, seemingly unmoved by the life-and-death struggle unfolding around her.
Everything seemed to happen in an instant yet also in slow motion. Qin Zhi Han summoned bolts of lightning and shot them at the Zombies surrounding Su Ruolan. On the other side of the highway, Zhan Yixiao appeared with a large group of Zombies, cradling a child in his arms. Upon seeing Su Ruolan about to be torn apart by the Zombies, he let out a high-pitched command.
Almost simultaneously, Zhan Yixiao's shout disrupted the Zombies' actions, causing them to hesitate for a moment. In that rare instant, Qin Zhi Han's lightning struck true, taking down several Zombies that surrounded Su Ruolan. Everything fell perfectly into place; if one didn't know they had just arrived on the scene, they might have thought it was a flawless coordination.
Qin Zhi Han finally caught up, now only 150 meters away from Su Ruolan. Ahead lay Zhan Yixiao leading a massive horde of Zombies, less than 100 meters from Qin Zhi Han.
Though Qin Zhi Han felt no fear, being unarmed made him appear vulnerable.
"Ruo Lan, come here! Come to me," Qin Zhi Han called out to Su Ruolan, waving for her to move closer.
Su Ruolan seemed to have lost her soul. Whether it was the Zombies trying to bite her or Qin Zhi Han shooting lightning arrows at her, she remained expressionless, oblivious to everything around her, aimlessly walking forward. At that moment, she didn't know what to do if she stopped; as long as she was quiet, it was an endless heartache. Continuing to walk allowed the fatigue and pain in her feet to counterbalance the pain in her heart.
Seeing Su Ruolan moving towards the Zombies, Qin Zhi Han grew anxious and rushed forward to grab her.
As Qin Zhi Han ran toward her, Zhan Yixiao showed no restraint. With a wave of his hand, countless Zombies surged toward Su Ruolan, bypassing her and lunging at Qin Zhi Han.
Zhan Yixiao clearly recognized Su Ruolan; this woman had once spared him, so he decided to return the favor and let her go this time. Mainly, he couldn't show any fear in front of Wei; if he frightened her, he would be the one at fault.
Noticing that the Zombies did not harm Su Ruolan—whatever the reason, they avoided her—Qin Zhi Han breathed a sigh of relief and focused on dealing with the Zombie attacks.
While the battle raged on fiercely, Su Ruolan had already passed by Zhan Yixiao and continued to wander forward like a lost soul.
"Xiao Gege, I feel like this woman looks familiar; she resembles my mother," Wei suddenly said, squinting at Su Ruolan's back.
"What? This woman is your mother?" Zhan Yixiao asked in surprise.
"She’s not my mother; she is my mother. I want to keep her," Wei replied, struggling to describe her feelings. This woman didn’t look anything like her mother, yet her aura was unmistakably that of her mother. It was truly strange.
