B Base. The secret chamber of Jiang Zhilin's residence.
A mouthful of old blood spewed forth once again as Jiang Zhilin wiped the blood from his lips. His dark eyes were slightly dazed, and the face that once bore the elegance of a middle-aged scholar now appeared utterly disheveled. "Why is it still not working?" In a large pool beside him lay countless young girls, barely clinging to life, their faces filled with terror, blood staining the entire pool red.
"Why is it still not working? Why is it still not working?" Jiang Zhilin's anger flared as he slapped the blood pool, splattering blood everywhere. Looking at his own legs, his expression was filled with disgust; this ugly thing had trapped him for nearly a thousand years.
"Time is running out; I must find her quickly." Resolving himself, Jiang Zhilin wiped his face and stood up in a daze. He tidied his clothes and turned to walk outside, casually flicking a monster into the blood pool. It landed with a splash, joyfully sinking into the water, where it began to swell upon encountering the blood, devouring the girls one by one amidst their piercing cries, creating a scene reminiscent of hell on earth.
"Supreme Leader, it's bad! The Huaxia Army has firmly taken control of the northwest region; they have allied with the Zombies, and we have already lost half of our territory." A panicked general burst into the office to report.
Just as Jiang Zhilin was about to open a document in his office, he felt an eruption of rage from deep within upon hearing this news.
"Deploy the Squad and elite army units; we must completely annihilate the Huaxia Army. Go summon Jiang Yan," Jiang Zhilin commanded another officer.
"Yes." The officer nodded in response and quickly exited.
"What have I taught you? When faced with a situation, you must remain calm and composed. How can you handle major affairs like this?" Jiang Zhilin slowly walked up to the flustered general.
"Yes, yes, Supreme Leader, I was wrong." The general looked at Jiang Zhilin's expressionless face and felt a chill run down his spine as he repeatedly apologized.
"Good, there's hope for you yet; perhaps you'll do better next time." Jiang Zhilin thrust a sword into the general's brain coldly. With a swift motion, he pulled out the sword and watched as the man fell to the ground, his face twisted in fear and resentment.
What a fool; he couldn't even think straight while doing his job. Didn't he see that I was in a bad mood? Shouting like that could spread negativity among the troops. Fools like him should die sooner rather than later to avoid wasting resources.
Knock, knock, knock. Jiang Yan and another officer entered the room, only to find the general lying on the floor. Jiang Yan ignored the scene completely. The other officer glanced at the body and lowered his head.
"This is a spy from the Huaxia Army who just attempted to assassinate me but ended up dead by my hand. Drag him out," Jiang Zhilin said coldly.
"Yes," the officer replied, then proceeded to drag the body out, instructing the guards at the door to handle the remains.
As the two guards dealt with the body, one of them, taller than the other, murmured, "What’s wrong with the leader lately? Killing so frequently—this state of affairs is terrible."
"Shh, don’t talk nonsense. Are you crazy? If someone hears us, we’re done for…" The shorter guard made a gesture across his throat.
"I don’t want to live like this anymore; it’s too despairing," the tall guard whispered.
"I heard that the Huaxia Army has already taken half of the territory. They seem more benevolent and treat the common people well. If it comes to it, we could just defect to them," after a moment of thought, the short guard suggested.
"Do you think we can escape? People like us have been under surveillance for ages. If this continues, not just high-ranking generals but we could also end up dead without reason, branded as traitors," the tall guard replied angrily.
"Yeah, it’s really frightening how frequently high-ranking generals are being killed lately."
