Wang Chao felt as if his body had been pierced by a thousand arrows. The pain made him let out a loud, unpleasant scream, reminiscent of the sounds heard during pig slaughtering in his village during the New Year celebrations. Dazed, he opened his eyes and realized he was lying naked on a cold bed. No, it wasn't just arrows; he had been pierced by dozens of tentacles. But how could he have no wounds at all? And where was this place? 0

Looking around, Wang Chao noticed that aside from the bed, there was only a mirror that covered an entire wall. Was he some kind of test subject for a mysterious organization? Had everything he experienced before been a dream? Did dying mean waking up automatically? What did his twenty-four years of life amount to? Wang Chao couldn't accept this. 0

He jumped off the bed. Although his whole body still ached, he clearly sensed that his life was not in danger. He walked over to the mirror and carefully examined himself. Standing at one hundred seventy-eight centimeters tall, he was neither too short nor too tall, with a well-built physique—thanks to the workouts he did in college to impress girls. No, wait; he was supposed to be checking for wounds. 0

At that moment, Wang Chao found that there were no injuries on him at all, yet the pain continued to remind him that he had truly experienced that scene. Could it be that he really was an experiment? He reached for the only door but found it wouldn’t budge. Rubbing his head in frustration, he retreated back to the bed and began to think deeply. Suddenly, the door swung open, and a girl with striking features and an impressive figure walked in. Her phoenix eyes were unlike anything Wang Chao had ever seen. 0

Seeing this inexplicably beautiful girl enter, Wang Chao instinctively covered himself and said indignantly, "Who are you? Why have you locked me in here?" 0

The girl remained expressionless and replied calmly, "First of all, I didn’t lock you in. The door pushes outward; even if you pull on it until tomorrow, it won’t open." Upon hearing this, Wang Chao’s face turned red as he thought about how ridiculous it was for a door to push outward like that—what an awful design! The girl raised two fingers and continued, "Secondly, that mirror is one-way glass, so you don’t need to cover yourself; I could see everything clearly from outside." 0

What on earth was happening? Here he was, a twenty-four-year-old man being watched by a sixteen or seventeen-year-old girl. The way she spoke made her sound like an old person. Wang Chao felt utterly embarrassed—more than embarrassed; it was mortifying! He thought to himself that since he had already been seen completely naked and she didn’t care, why should he be modest? 0

So, he stopped covering himself. 0

Wang Chao noticed the girl’s gaze linger on him for a few seconds before he cleared his throat twice and asked, "Where is this place? Who are you?" 0

"I can’t tell you where this is," she replied. "But you can call me Xiaocao." 0

"Xiaocao?" Wang Chao paused in surprise. 0

"Is there something wrong with that?" she asked curiously. 0

"It’s such a simple and pleasant name!" Wang Chao scratched his head while looking at Xiaocao. 0

"Thank you," Xiaocao replied. 0

Having grown up alone, Wang Chao hated awkward silences and could usually chat with anyone. However, he had never encountered a girl like Xiaocao before. It felt as though she spoke too formally during their conversation—as if she weren’t a real person but rather like an AI chatbot joking around with him on his smartphone. Of course, Xiaocao's intelligence was clearly much higher than that of any machine, but Wang Chao could sense that she was indeed a living person. This made the situation feel even stranger. 0

Wang Chao asked, "Why am I here?" 0

Xiao Cao did not respond to Wang Chao's question but instead said, "You really disappointed me." The tone was reminiscent of an elder reprimanding a younger person. Wang Chao felt quite frustrated and instinctively glanced down. Xiao Cao continued, "You're not small down there; that's not what I meant. I was saying that you could have escaped back then!" 0

"But you chose to stay, so I'm very disappointed in you," Xiao Cao added. 0

Wang Chao suddenly understood what Xiao Cao meant. She was referring to his choice to fight the Tentacle Monster, allowing Yang Mengying and the others time to escape. What puzzled Wang Chao was how Xiao Cao knew about this and why he found himself in this place. He asked, "Who are you? How do you know about this?" 0

"I can't answer that question," Xiao Cao replied. 0

"Then what questions can you answer?" Wang Chao asked, somewhat irritated. 0

"I can only answer questions that I can answer," Xiao Cao said. 0

Wang Chao thought to himself, Is she a philosopher? This response left him speechless. He was on the verge of breaking down but managed to hold it together since he was at her mercy. He feigned calmness and nodded, asking, "First, were the things I experienced real?" 0

"They were real," Xiao Cao confirmed. 0

"Good. Second question," Wang Chao said, "Can I return to my companions?" 0

"You can," Xiao Cao replied. 0

Wang Chao nodded and then asked, "Did you save me?" 0

"I saved you," Xiao Cao affirmed with a nod. 0

"Will I turn into a Zombie?" Wang Chao asked, voicing the most critical question. Anyone who was grabbed or bitten by a Zombie (provided there was bloodshed) would become one themselves. Not to mention that Wang Chao had been pierced by the Tentacle Monster's many limbs. If he turned into a Zombie, it would be better for him to just die instead. Thus, he finally couldn't help but ask. 0

"No way!" Little Grass exclaimed. 0

A heavy stone finally fell from Wang Chao's heart; as long as he didn't turn into a Zombie, everything would be fine! 0

"When can I go back?" Wang Chao asked. 0

Little Grass nodded and handed him something. Wang Chao looked down to find it was a ring. Little Grass said, "This is a Spatial Ring. It has one cubic meter of space inside, but it can only store inanimate objects." 0

"Why are you giving me this?" Wang Chao asked. He had heard of such things before but had never seen one. Now, Little Grass was directly handing him a Spatial Ring. With this, he would be free from the burden of worrying about losing or breaking his backpack. It was like a divine gift! 0

"It's not for me to give; I'm just passing it on. If you want to go back, I can send you right now," Little Grass said. 0

"Wait!" Wang Chao interrupted. "I have one last question." 0

"Ask away!" Little Grass replied. 0

"Do I look good?" Wang Chao asked. 0

This question caught Little Grass off guard, leaving her momentarily speechless. It seemed the concept didn't even register in her mind. After scrutinizing Wang Chao for a while, she finally said, "Not really." 0

"Then hurry up and give me a set of clothes!" Wang Chao shouted. "Are you going to let me go back naked?" 0
