West, the Safe Zone controlled by humans, was a mystery to Wang Chao. He couldn't understand why the people in the hospital weren't heading towards West. Did they not know about it, or did they think escaping the hospital was too dangerous? He had no way of knowing. However, according to his previous agreement with Yang Mengying, if he didn't find her parents, he would head to West. It seemed that Yang Mengying and the others were also going in that direction.
Wang Chao was certain that time hadn't passed in just an instant, but he couldn't determine how long it had actually been—hours? Days? He shook his head and continued walking west. After a considerable distance, once he had completely left the street behind, he noticed waves of Zombies surrounding him. It appeared to be related to the Tentacle Monster that had appeared earlier.
With Wang Chao's current strength, he wasn't concerned about these slow-moving Zombies. However, there were so many of them that he couldn't handle them alone, so he tried to stick to the walls as much as possible. For him, it felt like walking on flat ground.
A small budget supermarket came into view.
Wang Chao glanced around the supermarket; several Zombies were lingering at the entrance, seemingly attracted by something. Frowning, he decided that this supermarket was worth the risk of entering. With that thought in mind, Wang Chao shot out from the wall like an arrow, and immediately, the surrounding Zombies surged toward him! The speed of these Zombies had now matched that of an adult walking, but there was no way they could catch up to Wang Chao!
In the blink of an eye, Wang Chao dashed into the horde of Zombies. Seeing food daring to approach them, they swung their claws and lunged with their gaping mouths. Wang Chao executed a sweeping kick, sending several Zombies flying. Then, with a few quick jumps, he charged toward the supermarket entrance while using his hands as blades. In no time at all, the ground was littered with Zombie corpses.
Through the glass, Wang Chao spotted a lock between the two doors.
Without pausing, he delivered a powerful punch to the center of the doors. The lock couldn't withstand the force of both doors swinging open and snapped in half! The doors swung wide open, and Wang Chao quickly turned around and kicked backward with his right leg in a spinning motion, sending a pursuing Zombie flying before stepping inside. He pulled both doors shut and pushed a counter against them for extra security.
Looking around, Wang Chao noticed that many items on the shelves had clearly been rummaged through; a significant amount of food and bottled water was missing. It was evident that whoever had searched here lacked the ability to take everything away. However, Wang Chao didn't share such concerns; one cubic meter was enough to hold plenty of supplies. He filled his pack with ample food and water and even grabbed some canned meat and cigarettes.
Wang Chao realized that in the near future, when food and water became scarce, these items would be considered luxuries.
Although he didn't loot every single item in the supermarket, he had taken nearly everything valuable. While eating some food, he watched as Zombies outside desperately tried to get in. Unfortunately for them, the counter was far too heavy for them to breach. Just then, he noticed movement at the back door of the supermarket! Wang Chao immediately became alert.
Suddenly, the door burst open. A young man who looked about Wang Chao's age entered. Upon seeing Wang Chao, he froze for a moment before raising his weapon—a makeshift mace he'd crafted himself. Wang Chao let out a sigh of relief and said, "Don't worry; I'm not a Zombie!" The young man still held his weapon defensively as Wang Chao shrugged his shoulders.
"What's going on?" Wang Chao heard another man's voice from outside the door. As he spoke, four or five men walked in and immediately froze upon seeing Wang Chao. Except for the youngest among them, the rest were middle-aged men, all of whom looked just as wary as the young leader. Wang Chao, however, paid them no mind and continued eating his bread.
Then, Wang Chao noticed two women entering the room. When he recognized one of them, he nearly dropped the bread in his hand. It was none other than his college crush—Chen Feifei. He remembered how he had pursued her for a long time back in university, only to be met with indifference, which had left him heartbroken for quite some time.
Chen Feifei clearly recognized Wang Chao as well, but she remained at the back of the group, saying nothing.
"Put down the food!" the young man commanded.
Wang Chao ignored him and continued eating.
"I said, put down the bread!" The young man stepped closer, his tone more aggressive.
"What if I don't?" Wang Chao replied calmly.
"If you don't put it down, I won't hesitate to make you food for the zombies!" the young man threatened.
"Is that so?" Wang Chao chuckled and said, "Then feel free to give it a try!"
The young man's expression changed at those words. He shouted, "You’re asking for it!" and charged at Wang Chao. In response, Wang Chao tossed up half-eaten bread into the air and smiled slightly at the approaching young man. Then, with a powerful kick, he struck the young man's wrist. The pain forced the young man to release his weapon, which flew out of his hand and lodged itself into the wall nearby.
Wang Chao then reached out with his right hand and grabbed the young man's collar, effortlessly lifting him off the ground with just one arm! At that moment, the bread fell back down into Wang Chao's left hand, and he resumed eating. All these actions flowed seamlessly together, happening in an instant.
The people around them barely had time to comprehend what was happening before they realized that the young man was being held up by Wang Chao!
Several people were about to rush forward, but when they met Wang Chao's cold gaze, their legs froze in mid-air, unable to move. Wang Chao was quite pleased with this effect. The young man was lifted off the ground by Wang Chao, struggling desperately, his hands trying to pry away the grip on his collar. However, that hand was like a vice, firmly holding onto him with no sign of letting go.
"I've killed plenty of Zombies, and I don't care about taking a few lives. The food here belongs to the supermarket owner, not you. Furthermore, I officially inform you that this supermarket has been acquired by me. Everything here is mine, and if you want to stay, you will have to listen to me!" After finishing his words, Wang Chao grinned widely. With a powerful motion of his muscles, he flung the young man away, sending him crashing into the wall beside them.
The young man spat blood and lost consciousness.
"Wang Chao! I've missed you so much!" From behind, Chen Feifei rushed forward and hugged Wang Chao tightly.
