After driving northwest for a long time, they finally arrived at the so-called destination. Wang Chao looked around and saw a solitary small bungalow standing in the midst of the suburban woods. It had no windows, and the wooden door appeared old and worn, making it look like it had been abandoned for over a decade. Wang Chao couldn't believe that this was where the Biochemical Terrorism Security Alliance was located.
Although Wang Chao felt puzzled inside, he did not show it on his face. He knew there must be some hidden circumstances behind this.
The car came to a stop, and Huangfu Ling waved to the two of them. The three of them got out of the vehicle, and Huangfu Ling walked ahead while Wang Chao and Shen Zhiying followed closely behind. They pushed open the wooden door, and without pausing, Huangfu Ling walked straight into the interior. Wang Chao noticed that there was a single bed and a wardrobe inside. Huangfu Ling opened the wardrobe, felt around behind the door panel, and then the single bed slid aside to reveal a staircase.
Wang Chao shook his head inwardly, thinking that it was indeed not simple.
At the bottom of the stairs stood a guard who nodded upon seeing Huangfu Ling. Huangfu Ling said nothing but returned the nod. Pushing open another door, Wang Chao felt that beneath this abandoned house lay an entirely different world. Just looking at the long corridor was enough to indicate the vastness of this underground structure. Huangfu Ling led them into an elevator that had three floors, plus one with a red triangular button.
Huangfu Ling pressed for the first floor, and as the elevator descended, he explained, "This underground facility is divided into four levels. The first level is where we train; the second level is for research; the third level contains the dissection rooms and holds zombies. As for that triangular button, you currently have no right to know what it leads to. So, as long as you become members of the Bioterrorism Security Department, you will have access to the upper three levels. The last level is off-limits; anyone who dares to trespass will be dealt with ruthlessly."
As Huangfu Ling spoke, the elevator reached the first underground level.
The doors opened to reveal two soldiers guarding outside. The three of them turned left as Huangfu Ling walked briskly and pushed open two large doors leading to the training area. As soon as he opened the door, Wang Chao spotted a familiar figure and instinctively called out, "Ouyang En!" Ouyang En turned around in surprise upon seeing Wang Chao; his expression shifted through various emotions before he finally said, "Brother Wang!"
Their conversation drew everyone's attention towards them. Among those present, Wang Chao noticed Shen Zhitao but had no time to greet her directly; he asked straightforwardly, "Where are Yiyi and Yang Mengying?"
"They're on the second underground level; it turns out Yang Jie’s parents work down there," Ouyang En replied.
A weight lifted off Wang Chao's heart as he felt significantly more relaxed. At that moment, Huangfu Ling cleared his throat lightly, prompting Wang Chao to understand that it was time to move on without saying more. He simply nodded at Ouyang En. As long as he knew they were safe, there was no rush to meet them; they would have plenty of time later.
"Huangfu Gege!" Shen Zhitao exclaimed upon seeing Huangfu Ling and rushed over to hug him tightly. "I missed you so much!" Her joy was evident in her expression. Huangfu Ling smiled and patted Shen Zhitao's head, saying, "You're all grown up now; still so fond of acting cute." Shen Zhitao stuck out her tongue playfully; she looked adorable enough that if Wang Chao didn't know she was already thirty years old, he would have thought she was just a little girl who loved to be pampered.
"Sister, you’re here too," Shen Zhitao said as she looked at Shen Zhiying.
"Mm." Shen Zhiying's responses were still as brief as ever.
Shen Zhitao nodded at Wang Chao, indicating that she had seen her. Wang Chao thought to herself how Shen Zhitao's personality was quite changeable; just a moment ago, she had been like a queen, but now, upon seeing her beloved, she instantly transformed into a dependent little bird.
Huangfu Ling addressed everyone, "Let me introduce our new team members. This is Shen Zhiying, who is also your instructor Shen's sister. You all know the strength of Instructor Shen, and her sister is no weaker than her; I believe you understand that. And this is Wang Chao, who has achieved a level six strike. Among you here, aside from Da Qiang, no one else has managed such results."
As Huangfu Ling spoke, he glanced at Da Qiang. Wang Chao looked over at Da Qiang, who stood an impressive two meters tall and was built like a tank, likely weighing around two hundred pounds. Just looking at his arms, they were as thick as Wang Chao's thighs. It was no surprise that he could achieve a level six strike.
Compared to Da Qiang, Wang Chao seemed quite frail. The muscles she had developed during college paled in comparison to Da Qiang's; it was like comparing a primary school student to an adult. This made Wang Chao feel rather frustrated. Following that, Huangfu Ling introduced the other team members. Aside from Da Qiang, one individual caught Wang Chao's attention—a middle-aged man carrying a Tang Dao on his back—and another was a young boy who looked no older than ten.
Of course, the Shen sisters and Ouyang En were already familiar to Wang Chao; the entire Biochemical Terrorism Security Alliance consisted of only twenty members. Wang Chao thought that was rather few; with just twenty people, even if they formed groups of five, there would only be four groups. This meant that if missions were assigned, it wouldn’t take long before it would be their turn again, and the rest time wouldn’t be too long either. However, Wang Chao had no idea how often missions would occur.
"Alright, continue your training," Huangfu Ling instructed. "Wang Chao, come with me."
Wang Chao nodded and followed Huangfu Ling outside. Once outside, Huangfu Ling asked, "Do you know Dean Yang's daughter?" Wang Chao was somewhat puzzled as Huangfu Ling looked at her expectantly. Suddenly realizing, she replied, "Yes, I know his daughter Yang Mengying." Wang Chao only knew that both of Yang Mengying's parents worked at the hospital and held significant positions; when she heard Dean Yang’s name earlier, she hadn’t reacted immediately—turns out Yang Mengying’s father was the director!
Wang Chao felt increasingly amazed by the world; the daughter of a provincial hospital director had actually lived with her for over six months. If she told others about it, they would probably think it was a loser’s daydream.
Huangfu Ling remained silent as they entered the elevator and descended to the second basement level. Upon arriving on this floor, Wang Chao immediately noticed an unfamiliar gas odor; the entire floor felt much colder than above—it truly had the atmosphere of a research laboratory.
After knocking on the laboratory door, Wang Chao saw someone pull it open—it was none other than Yang Mengying, whom she hadn’t seen in quite some time. Wang Chao smiled and said, "Long time no see!"
Yang Mengying was momentarily stunned, seemingly not expecting to see Wang Chao again. Then, she threw herself into his arms and said, "Wang Chao." As soon as she called his name, tears began to flow from her eyes.
Wang Chao closed his eyes; this feeling was truly wonderful.
