The Military Jeep sped along, and Wang Chao hesitated to drive it to the front of the alley. There were too many people around, and many had noticed the vehicle. Wang Chao hoped that Li Xiuli would be intimidated by his actions and would stop bothering him. However, judging by Li Xiuli's demeanor, it seemed she would continue to seek him out. Nevertheless, he was now a member of the Biochemical Terrorism Security Alliance. Although Li Xiuli's underlings had seen his face, they hadn't witnessed him confronting her directly. As long as he firmly denied any involvement, they should have no leverage against him.
Looking at Huangfu Ling, Wang Chao estimated that he held the highest rank in the area. He thought that even if this escalated to the Vice Mayor, Li Dewei would still extend some courtesy towards him. This was Wang Chao's goal; as long as both sides maintained a level of respect, Li Xiuli would realize she couldn't handle him and would definitely stop harassing Li Yunqi. However, this depended on Huangfu Ling valuing Wang Chao more than any personal favors owed to Li Xiuli. Of course, Wang Chao had his own tricks up his sleeve; if all else failed, he could always seek help from Shen Zhitao. While Huangfu Ling might not give him any leeway, Shen Zhitao certainly would.
Wang Chao turned to Li Yunqi in the Military Jeep and said, "I gave Li Xiuli a good lesson. She definitely won't come looking for you anytime soon. If anyone asks about it, just blame me." He thought carefully; if he was trying to help Zhao Dong but ended up causing trouble for him instead, that would truly be counterproductive.
"No way! You helped me; how can I let you take the blame?" Li Yunqi protested. Before he could finish, Wang Chao interrupted, "Listen to me; if you don't do this, you're not helping me—you're putting me in danger. The bigger this gets and the more eyes are on her, the less she can act against you. Don't try to shoulder this alone; otherwise, she'll slowly wear me down."
Wang Chao said earnestly, "Do you understand?"
Li Yunqi nodded.
Wang Chao continued, "I'm not going back. I'll drop you off at the big iron gate; you can head home from there. We both know what happened; let's keep this from Zhao Dong."
Li Yunqi had already gotten out of the car and understood that Wang Chao's last statement was meant to ease his mind. Naturally, he didn't want to share this incident with anyone else, especially fearing that Wang Chao might tell Zhao Dong about it. Hearing Wang Chao's words made him realize that Wang Chao was looking out for him, which touched him deeply. He silently thanked him and walked toward his home.
Wang Chao hurried back to the Bioterrorism Security Department's training ground with Yiyi and dropped her off with Yang Mengying. He quickly returned to report in but found Huangfu Ling absent and wondered where he had gone. Pushing open the door to the training room, he saw Shen Zhitao holding a submachine gun and explaining something. Wang Chao quickly rejoined his team just in time to hear Shen Zhitao say, "JS 9mm Submachine Gun; overall length is 450mm, weight without suppressor is 2kg..."
Meanwhile, outside the operating room on the second floor of the Refugee Zone Field Hospital, a portly middle-aged man was angrily shouting into a specialized communication device. "Who is that brat?! Even if I have to dig up half of the Refugee Zone, I want him found! And what about those brats who have been following Xiu Li? Get them here too! If I don't see them in ten minutes, you can go eat shit!"
"Yes, yes! We'll find them right away!" came a hurried response from the other end of the line as footsteps echoed in the background.
At that moment, a doctor emerged from the operating room. Li Dewei quickly stepped forward and asked, "Dr. Xu, how is my son doing?"
Dr. Xu rubbed his eyes, appearing quite fatigued. He replied, "There is no issue with his life, but... how should I put this? Your son will likely lose his ability to have children permanently."
"What?" Li Dewei shouted. "Dr. Xu, you are one of the best doctors in our city. How could this happen?"
Dr. Xu said, "I am powerless in this situation. When he was brought in, the damage was already done down there. It seems he must have hit a corner of a cabinet, and too much time had passed. There was no choice but to remove it; otherwise, it could pose a risk to his life. This is a minor surgery, and he can be discharged in a week. After that, he just needs to recuperate at home, but..." Dr. Xu noticed Li Dewei's pale face and shook his head as he left.
"I swear I will kill him!" Li Dewei's furious shout echoed throughout the hospital.
"Mayor Li! We found someone who knows what happened!" A bald man rushed over with another person in tow. This person was none other than Wang Chao, the one who had knocked out two of Toothless Brother's front teeth.
"Mayor, Mayor!" Toothless Brother said.
"Stop wasting time; explain the situation quickly!" Mayor Li suppressed his anger and demanded.
"Mayor Li, Li Shao is truly wronged here! We were sent by Li Shao to pick up... I mean, to escort Li Shao's girlfriend, but on the way, we encountered someone driving a Military Jeep who beat us up," Toothless Brother stammered.
"And then what?" Li Dewei pressed.
"And then he knocked out my front teeth!" Toothless Brother opened his mouth to show Li Dewei. Unable to contain his fury any longer, Li Dewei shouted, "What have you become? I don't care about your teeth; tell me about the incident!"
Toothless Brother trembled at the outburst and quickly continued, "Then I was taken hostage and brought to Li Shao's door. After that, I was knocked down with one punch. But without a doubt, the one who did that to Li Shao is this person!"
"What is this person's name?" Li Dewei asked.
"Uh, he was driving a Military Jeep and seemed to be from the army. What was his name again? Oh right! I remember now! His name is Wang Chao!" Toothless Brother exclaimed.
"Get lost!" Li Dewei hissed, and Toothless Brother dared not linger any longer, disappearing in a flash.
"Hello?" Li Dewei dialed a number and said, "Hey, Xiao Wang, gather your people and meet me at the military base! Right now, yes, bring everyone and assemble at the hospital. Hurry up!" As the mayor, Li Dewei had the authority to command the local security forces, which were separate from the military. Those forces only managed security issues in the Refugee Zone and could not compare to the quality and strength of the military personnel. However, with his status as mayor, he still had the power to apprehend a soldier from the army.
With that thought in mind, he made another call and said, "Old Lei, you have to help me this time. My son..."
