Wang Chao thought that there must be something else in the mound, so he walked straight towards it. As he got closer, he noticed a small hole at the back of the mound. Inside was dark, and he couldn't see what was there. Wang Chao leaned in to take a look, but since it was backlit, he couldn't make anything out. He had no choice but to reach in and feel around. As soon as his hand went inside, he touched something furry that made his hand itch. 0

Then, Wang Chao felt as if something was biting his hand. Startled, he considered a possibility. He quickly grasped the furry object gently and pulled it out of the hole. As soon as he did, everyone gasped in surprise. At that moment, Wang Chao understood why the wild wolf chose to fight to the death with the Human Bear; it was all because of this Little Wolf in his hands. 0

Thinking back, Wang Chao realized that if the Little Wolf hadn't been there, the wild wolf would have left long ago instead of choosing to engage in a fierce battle with the Human Bear. It is said that wolves are highly intelligent animals, but regardless of how intelligent they are—much like humans—they can lose their rationality when it comes to protecting their loved ones. In such moments, no amount of intelligence matters because humans are emotional creatures. 0

Wang Chao looked at the tiny wolf cub. Its eyes were still closed, but its body was covered in dark brown fur, indicating it had just been born not long ago. Wang Chao knew that before long, this Little Wolf would grow a beautiful snowy coat like its mother’s. However, he wondered whether this Little Wolf's paws would turn blood-red. Deep down, Wang Chao felt a flicker of anticipation. 0

Previously, Wang Chao had wanted to raise such a pet; how impressive it would be! 0

As he gazed at the Little Wolf, he thought this was a great opportunity bestowed upon him by fate. Looking down, he saw that although the Little Wolf's eyes were still shut, it had already opened its mouth to nibble on Wang Chao's little finger. The Little Wolf's teeth were not fully developed yet; its gentle bites felt ticklish and quite pleasant to Wang Chao. Just then, the Little Wolf opened its eyes. 0

The Little Wolf curled up in Wang Chao's hand and gazed at him with its blood-red eyes before nuzzling against his hand as if showing affection. Shen Zhitao nearby was also completely defenseless against such a furry creature and began to stroke the Little Wolf's soft fur. Excitedly, she said to Wang Chao, "I heard that when these animals are born and open their eyes for the first time, they mistake whatever they see for their mother." 0

Shen Zhitao looked at Wang Chao and added, "I guess it thinks you are its mother." 0

"Really?" Wang Chao glanced at the Little Wolf and then turned to look at the corpse of the mother wolf with a sudden pang of sadness. "In that case, it's better not to let it see its real mother." Shen Zhitao understood what Wang Chao meant and nodded. "You hold onto the Little Wolf while Tang Feng and I bury these two beasts." 0

Tang Feng was the kind of man who would do whatever you asked him to do. Hearing Shen Zhitao's words, he nodded and immediately took out a folding shovel from his backpack to quickly bury the bodies. Once they finished this task, they returned to Wang Chao's side. At that moment, Wang Chao quietly took out some beef jerky from his Spatial Ring to feed the Little Wolf. The Little Wolf sniffed curiously before opening its mouth to eat. 0

Wang Chao observed that although this Little Wolf had just been born, it didn't need milk; instead, it slowly chewed on the beef jerky with what seemed like joy on its face. It occasionally nudged its head against Wang Chao's hand as if truly considering him its biological mother. Shen Zhitao approached again and playfully "messed with" the Little Wolf before asking, "Since it thinks you're its mother, shouldn't you give it a name?" 0

Wang Chao nodded seriously and said, "How about we call her Xiao Tao? After all, she is a female wolf." 0
Shen Zhitao glanced at Wang Chao and said, "It's been a few days since I trained you, and it seems you've grown some wings. It's been a while since you called me 'sister Queen.' Why don't you give it a try?" 0

"What should I call you? I really have no talent for this!" Wang Chao scratched his head in response. 0

"Well, look how cute it is. Let's call it Bubble," Shen Zhitao suggested. 0

Wang Chao couldn't understand why something cute should be named Bubble; he simply couldn't grasp the woman's logic. So he said, "Bubble sounds too silly. How about Little Peach? Little Peach, do you like that name?" Although Little Wolf didn't understand what they were talking about, he happily nudged Wang Chao's hand. 0

"See? He likes it," Wang Chao remarked. 0

However, Shen Zhitao ignored him and looked at Little Wolf, saying, "Right now, Little Wolf is still small enough to hide in our backpack, but what will we do when he grows up? Creatures like this grow quickly; I estimate he'll reach a meter long in just a few months. Where will we hide Little Wolf then?" 0

Wang Chao understood the concern. In these times, even people struggled to find food, let alone raise such a creature. If others found out, they would likely capture it for meat. Moreover, this was the offspring of a mutated female wolf—would it pose a threat to others when it grew up? These questions were difficult to resolve. 0

"We can't just leave him here," Wang Chao said. 0

"Yes, that's a problem!" Shen Zhitao replied, resting her chin on her hand. "Without its mother, Little Wolf won't survive long here. But if we take him back, there will be a whole series of issues." 0

"Let's just take him for now and figure things out later. There’s always a way when we get there; we'll deal with today’s problems today and think about tomorrow’s tomorrow," Wang Chao said while petting Little Wolf's fluffy body. 0

"Alright," Shen Zhitao nodded and then turned to Tang Feng beside them. "This is something only the three of us can know; don’t tell anyone else." 0

Tang Feng nodded. They knew that with Tang Feng's personality, she would definitely keep the secret better than any close friend could. However, if it had been her sister Shen Zhiying instead, there would be no doubt that Shen Zhiying would shoot them down without a second thought. Thinking of this made Wang Chao realize that this matter truly needed to be kept from others. 0

Shen Zhitao separated the items in Wang Chao's backpack and placed Little Wolf inside, leaving a small gap for Little Wolf to breathe. 0
