Huangfu Ling looked at the chaotic scene, cursing under his breath. At that moment, Captain Lei and his Squad returned, which brought Huangfu Ling great relief. He heard Captain Lei say, "The generator and searchlights are ready." Huangfu Ling nodded and replied, "Turn on the lights, all directions." The Thunder Squad shouted, "Understood." Within seconds, dozens of bright beams of light flashed on.
The open space in front of the building was instantly illuminated as if it were daytime. People who had been in the dark for so long struggled to adapt and stopped shouting, standing frozen in place, unsure of what to do. Wang Chao was also momentarily blinded by the bright light; it took him a moment to adjust. When he finally looked up, he nearly fell to the ground in shock. Many others had also recovered, and Da Qiang pointed at several buildings across the way, shouting, "What the hell is that!"
Everyone turned to look and saw that the walls were covered with black creatures that resembled large geckos but without tails. Their hind legs were like tiger claws, while their front legs resembled giant crab pincers—long and seemingly razor-sharp. On their massive heads, there were no facial features, just a large black sphere.
"Fire! Fire!" Huangfu Ling was momentarily stunned but quickly regained his composure and shouted.
Captain Lei and his Squad immediately opened fire upon receiving the command. However, other soldiers were still in disarray, even forgetting that they were armed. The team led by Captain Lei was indeed elite; facing unknown danger, they showed no signs of fear. Their guns remained steady as they fired several rounds, taking down a few Black Monsters. Wang Chao noticed that the creatures' blood was also black.
Wang Chao finally understood why they had been so hard to find in the darkness—their black skin provided perfect camouflage at night.
The previously disoriented monsters seemed to have adapted to the bright light and began moving rapidly. Huangfu Ling sighed inwardly; if only his people were as composed as Captain Lei and his Squad, these monsters would be no threat at all. The creatures had already infiltrated the crowd, and people dared not shoot; they could only brandish their Sabres defensively.
In a bid for self-preservation, the soldiers finally reacted, drawing their Sabres and charging forward.
The members of the Bioterrorism Security Department also rushed in. Shen Zhiying held a gun in one hand and a knife in the other, shooting accurately without causing any collateral damage. Tang Feng swung his Tang Dao with a clanging sound; against these fast-moving monsters, Da Qiang found himself outmatched. Before Da Qiang could reach one of the creatures, it dodged past him. Despite his tough skin protecting his eyes and mouth, he already bore dozens of wounds.
"Those monsters are too fast!" Wang Chao shouted. "Everyone watch your backs!"
Before Wang Chao could finish speaking, he saw a monster suddenly appear behind Da Qiang. Without time to warn him, Wang Chao threw a knife just as the creature lunged for Da Qiang's eye. The knife struck true but only managed to slice off a piece of flesh from Da Qiang's face. As Wang Chao's knife flew out, he moved quickly himself; drawing another knife from his belt, he spun it expertly and severed the monster's head.
"You saved my life again, Brother Wang," Da Qiang said with a hearty laugh.
"Now is not the time to say that, watch your back!" As Wang Chao finished speaking, Da Qiang threw a punch. Wang Chao did not dodge; he heard a loud 'thud' as Da Qiang's fist smashed into a monster's head, exploding it. Wang Chao smiled, and Da Qiang grinned back as they charged toward another monster.
However, this monster was far more formidable than the Mourning Lion they had encountered before, and its speed was much greater than that of a Zombie. The group had no chance to fight back! Only the members of the Bioterrorism Security Department could barely manage to kill one or two, while the rest could only resign themselves to fate. Seeing the situation deteriorate, Huangfu Ling shouted, "Retreat, retreat!" Wang Chao looked over and saw that Huangfu Ling's speed was comparable to those monsters; if there weren't so many of them, she would likely not take them seriously.
But in the chaos of the crowd, who would still heed her orders? Those who could run had already vanished without a trace. Wang Chao knew that if this continued, the thousands of people in their group would be completely wiped out here!
At that moment, the sound of helicopter rotors roared overhead. A powerful searchlight illuminated the area from afar. Wang Chao looked up and saw none other than Zhang Fusheng standing at the helicopter's hatch! Suddenly, Zhang Fusheng jumped from the helicopter, which was at least ten meters above the rooftop, without any hesitation.

Zhang Fusheng's speed increased rapidly; Wang Chao found it hard to keep up with him. In just a few seconds, Zhang Fusheng appeared on the ground below, diving into the crowd. In no time at all, Wang Chao saw a monster fly out with its head shattered into several pieces. Wang Chao gaped in astonishment—who was truly the monster here? Was this what humanity's limits looked like?
The members of the Bioterrorism Security Department witnessed Zhang Fusheng's formidable strength and instantly felt their confidence surge. They charged into battle; what had been a collapsing situation was now being turned around by Zhang Fusheng alone. Wang Chao noticed a slight change in Shen Zhiying's expression—the woman who rarely showed emotion seemed shaken by Zhang Fusheng's prowess, though there was an unusual nuance in her expression.
At this moment, the rest of the people from the helicopter had also descended and immediately joined the fight. They operated like Captain Lei and his elite team—quickly evacuating civilians while firing strategically to fend off monsters attempting to pounce on the crowd. With such an efficient and powerful team in action, the chaotic scene was brought under control; many people began lining up to flee to safety.
Wang Chao breathed a sigh of relief; the tragedy of total annihilation could be avoided.
Huangfu Ling quickly moved in front of Zhang Fusheng and asked, "What are you doing here?"
While fighting monsters, they managed to chat as well. He replied, "I was sent by the old man to rescue people. Unfortunately, there are too few here; I should have realized that one person can be worth two!"
