Early the next morning, Wang Chao heard a knock on the door. Rubbing his sleepy eyes, he opened it to find Zhang Fusheng standing there. "What's up, brother?" Wang Chao asked. Zhang Fusheng waved his hand, signaling him to get dressed first. It was then that Wang Chao realized he was only wearing a pair of shorts, and behind Zhang Fusheng stood several girls, making him feel quite embarrassed.
Once Wang Chao had changed into proper clothes, he stepped outside again. "Let's go, the old man wants to see you," Zhang Fusheng said. Wang Chao nodded and followed Zhang Fusheng into the Small Building, finally escaping from the throngs of Zhang Fusheng's "fans." "I have to say, Zhang Fusheng, with all these fans surrounding you, isn't it exhausting?" Wang Chao remarked. No one had ever spoken to Zhang Fusheng like that before; he quietly replied, "Then I'll just pass them all to you, how about that?"
"I would love to, but I don't have the ability!" Wang Chao muttered.
"Wang Chao, let's talk business. You remember what happened when you turned into a monster, right?"
Wang Chao nodded.
"Well, then I have nothing more to say. Just follow my grandfather's arrangements when the time comes," Zhang Fusheng said seriously.
Wang Chao naturally didn't feel any aversion towards something that could benefit him. To be honest, it was already fortunate that Old Master Zhang hadn't thrown him into a research facility. After all, this was the capital city—Old Master Zhang's territory. If the old man were desperate to save his grandson and tossed him into a lab for dissection and study, there would be no place for Wang Chao to complain. Moreover, Wang Chao felt that Zhang Fusheng truly regarded him as a friend; otherwise, during their time in Yucheng, he wouldn't have brought him back to the capital despite everyone else's opinions.
Zhang Fusheng had indeed done enough for Wang Chao. Wang Chao understood this but found it difficult to repay him since Zhang Fusheng lacked nothing while he himself was in need of everything. Shaking his head, he followed Zhang Fusheng toward the study. Upon reaching the door, however, Zhang Fusheng showed no signs of entering and simply said to Wang Chao beside him, "Elder Wu and Old Master Zhang are inside; you can go in by yourself."
With that, Zhang Fusheng did not knock but pushed the door open directly. Wang Chao walked in as Zhang Fusheng closed the door behind him.
Upon seeing Wang Chao enter, both men paused their game of chess and looked up at him. Noticing that the previously silver-white lines on Wang Chao had turned a dark brass color confirmed their earlier suspicions. Old Master Zhang said, "Kid, come here." Without hesitation, Wang Chao walked up to Old Master Zhang. The old man flicked his fan with his right hand, and Wang Chao felt as if his arm had been struck by something incredibly heavy, extending straight out.
As Old Master Zhang closed his fan over Wang Chao's wrist, a few seconds later he removed it and said, "Your body is actually fine now. You know well what happened when you turned into a monster; I won't beat around the bush. To be honest, both you and Zhang Fusheng have undergone mutations. The lines you see are proof of that. Previously, your eyes glimmered with silver light; now they have turned a dull brass color."
Wang Chao was unaware of the changes happening within him; he only knew that he could no longer shift his arms as freely as before.
Elder Zhang continued, "Every person's body is like a container. The larger the container, the greater the power it can hold. However, your abilities have exceeded your limits, which is why the Zombie Virus within you has taken control of your body. Fortunately, after intense battles, you have consumed a significant amount of the power inside you, allowing you to calm down. Otherwise, you would have lost all human consciousness by now."
Wang Chao nodded. In truth, he had been on the brink of collapse during that time. His instincts urged him to eliminate everything around him, but his mind resisted, causing a splitting headache.
Elder Zhang went on, "The pill I gave you last time drained all your power."
At this point, Elder Zhang suddenly fell silent, and Elder Wu also refrained from speaking. The two sat quietly sipping tea. Hearing that all his power had been drained naturally left Wang Chao feeling disappointed and angry; however, he did not show any signs of it. After all, Elder Zhang's actions were for his own good. If he continued to resent Elder Zhang, it would be rather unreasonable.
Seeing Wang Chao's expression unchanged, Zhang Lai secretly nodded in approval; he was much steadier than Zhang Fusheng.
Elder Zhang spoke again, "The energy within you has stabilized faster than I expected. Originally, you would have needed to take pills for a week, but this is good too. However, no matter how great your power is, you must have a body capable of wielding it. I have a manual here; if you practice diligently, these issues should resolve themselves."
Indeed, as Elder Zhang said, Wang Chao's previous level was merely at the Silver rank, yet he forced the Diamond-ranked Zhang Fusheng to use his full strength against him. This demonstrated just how far Wang Chao's Silver-level abilities had progressed. Of course, this was also because Zhang Fusheng had just mutated and had not yet shown his full mutated powers.
Even so, there was a significant gap between Silver and Diamond ranks—three major tiers apart—highlighting the immense power within Wang Chao.
When Wang Chao saw Elder Zhang hand him a manual, he quickly accepted it and glanced over it. It was filled with ancient text about energy and body techniques. Wang Chao thought to himself that if it were all in classical Chinese, how could someone like him understand it? Wouldn't that mean that those with lower cultural levels couldn't practice at all? However, Wang Chao kept his thoughts to himself. At that moment, Elder Zhang said, "Come back tomorrow; that's enough for today."
Wang Chao nodded and pushed open the door to leave. Just as he closed the door behind him, he hurriedly opened the manual again and found that although some terms were archaic, the content was not overly obscure or difficult to understand—he felt somewhat satisfied. But as soon as he stepped outside, Zhang Fusheng yanked the manual away from him. Wang Chao nearly shouted in anger but held back since it was part of the Zhang Family's property.
Wang Chao could only respond coolly through gritted teeth at the corner of his mouth: "I say, young master, are you trying to drive the poor to their deaths?"
Zhang Fusheng said, "This manual isn't worth looking at."
Wang Chao perked up at this, sensing an opportunity. "So what good manuals does the landlord have?"
Zhang Fusheng replied, "Wait a few days, and I'll find you an exceptional manual."
"Big brother, my dear!" Wang Chao hurriedly grabbed Zhang Fusheng's hand and exclaimed, "You truly are my own brother! Just remember, if you don't give me the manual next time, you'll be a little dog!" Zhang Fusheng helplessly nodded and said, "Don't worry."
Wang Chao then patted Zhang Fusheng on the arm and said, "Alright, I'm off to have dinner. Let's meet again another day!"
"Your manual!" Zhang Fusheng called out.
"You have such a good one already; why do you need this? I'll just take it for you," Wang Chao said as he dashed away without a trace.
