Wang Chao returned home and flipped through a few secret manuals. Although Zhang Fusheng had promised to give him an extraordinary manual, he still wanted to take a look at this one. After all, it was about being inclusive and open-minded. Just as Wang Chao was engrossed in his reading, there was a knock at the door. He opened it to find Wu Wan'er standing there, holding a bowl of congee and some side dishes, smiling gently at him.
"You're here so early," Wang Chao said with a smile, quickly inviting Wu Wan'er inside.
Wu Wan'er placed the dishes on the table, and Wang Chao, being quite familiar with her, sat down and began eating without hesitation. Meanwhile, Wu Wan'er noticed that the quilt on Wang Chao's bed was unmade and naturally went over to tidy it up. This made Wang Chao feel surprised; he never expected someone from the Seven Great Families would personally make a bed. As Wu Wan'er knelt on his bed folding the quilt, Lin Xudong happened to pass by outside.
Since neither of them had closed the door when entering, Lin Xudong witnessed the scene clearly. Upon seeing this, he immediately became furious, as if he had witnessed his wife being insulted. "Wang Chao! What are you doing?" Lin Xudong shouted, and both Wang Chao and Wu Wan'er heard him.
Wang Chao ignored Lin Xudong completely, while Wu Wan'er looked at Lin Xudong with some apology and said, "I’m helping Wang Chao fold his quilt." Being the only heir of Elder Wu from the Second Great Family of Huaxia, Lin Xudong didn’t dare to direct his anger at her; he simply replied coolly, "You're Zhang Fusheng's person. Isn’t it inappropriate for you to come here every day?"
Wu Wan'er responded, "I am going to marry Zhang Fusheng, but I came to bring food for Brother Wang Chao..."
Before she could finish her sentence, Lin Xudong interrupted her. "You don’t need to come here to deliver food anymore; I’ll find someone else."
Wu Wan'er glanced at Wang Chao and then at Lin Xudong, looking quite conflicted. At that moment, Wang Chao finished his bowl of congee, smacked his lips together, neatly placed his chopsticks down, and stood up. Wu Wan'er also stood aside as Wang Chao walked out the door and said to Lin Xudong, "Are you just sitting around with nothing to do? There are so many people outside still facing the threat of zombies. If you have energy to spare, go out and kill some zombies instead of bothering me."
Wang Chao felt frustrated. Why were those truly capable individuals from the other families organizing resistance against zombies across Huaxia while people like Lin Xudong were just idling in the Imperial Capital Safe Zone? Wasn’t this exactly what Lin Xudong had come to bother him about? Besides, what was wrong with having a girl help him fold a quilt? Although he felt a bit embarrassed about having a girl do that for him, it didn’t seem like something Lin Xudong should comment on.
Lin Xudong retorted, "Aren't you just close with Zhang Fusheng? Don’t think that gives you free rein. You need to understand that Wu Wan'er is definitely going to marry Zhang Fusheng in the future. I’m looking out for you; otherwise, with just a flick of my finger, I could make your life miserable."
Wang Chao realized that Lin Xudong was overly concerned about the relationship between Wu Wan'er and Zhang Fusheng. Was he some kind of voyeur?
Wang Chao replied sharply, "What does their relationship have to do with you? Go play in the mud somewhere else." It wasn’t that Wang Chao lacked manners or respect; he simply didn’t have the mood to get entangled with Lin Xudong right now. After all, his own strength had diminished significantly and he might not survive in a month or two—he didn’t have time for idle chatter.
Even though there were grievances among the Seven Great Families, they were usually kept under wraps; no one openly discussed them. So it was surprising for Lin Xudong to be insulted like this. He pointed angrily at Wang Chao's nose and shouted, "You dare insult me? You dare insult me! Today I will make sure you pay for this! Even if Zhang Fusheng comes here, I will still deal with you."
Wang Chao noticed how often Lin Xudong mentioned Zhang Fusheng as if everything revolved around him.
Wang Chao kicked Lin Xudong out, causing Wu Wan'er nearby to gasp in surprise. She quickly ran a few steps to help Lin Xudong up, but Wang Chao grabbed her hand, signaling her to stay put while he handled the situation. Even though Wang Chao's strength had dropped from Silver to Brass, it was still easy for him to teach a spoiled rich kid a lesson.
After all, he wasn't Zhang Fusheng, who possessed extraordinary power; today, he was determined to take Lin Xudong down.
At that moment, Lin Xudong lay on the ground clutching his chest. Wang Chao's kick had been heavy, and now he swaggered over to Lin Xudong, stepping on his chest. "I curse you, and I’ll beat you up too. What? You want to bite me? If you dare hit me, you better call me Daddy!"
Lin Xudong, still pinned down by Wang Chao's foot, felt excruciating pain in his chest that made it hard to breathe. Yet he gritted his teeth and replied, "Wang Chao, I’m telling you, I’m going to hit you today!"
As soon as Lin Xudong finished speaking, Wu Wan'er burst into laughter. Wang Chao had made it clear that if Lin Xudong dared to strike him, he would have to acknowledge him as his father. However, due to the pain and tension, Lin Xudong hadn’t fully grasped what Wang Chao had said. Wu Wan'er, on the other hand, understood perfectly and couldn’t help but laugh.
Wang Chao smiled at Wu Wan'er. She had only interacted with members of the Seven Great Families before and had never met someone like Wang Chao. Despite being in a dominant position, he still found ways to taunt verbally. It was a unique feeling for her—one she had never experienced before.
At this point, Wang Chao had already walked into the house and said to Wu Wan'er, "You’d better not deal with people like him in the future. His intelligence is clearly negative; it might even be off the charts. Just looking at him makes me feel like my own intelligence is being insulted."
Wang Chao's voice was loud enough for Lin Xudong to hear clearly. As expected, Lin Xudong was furious upon hearing those words; if he had a gun at that moment, Wang Chao would have been riddled with bullets. Now standing up after struggling free, Lin Xudong glared at Wang Chao and said, "Wang Chao, just wait! Don’t run away!"
With that, Lin Xudong turned and ran off without looking back.
