Wang Chaozhen never expected that, at such a critical moment, it would be those old fellows from the Academy who saved him, largely thanks to Dean Yang, Yang Mengying's father; otherwise, Dean Yang wouldn't have come along. Meanwhile, Huangfu Yan and Colonel Li stood to one side of the stage, their faces dark with anger. Seizing a moment when no one was paying attention, Huangfu Yan approached Wang Chao. At over sixty years old, Huangfu Yan showed no signs of aging; if anything, he appeared more vigorous than ever. He looked at Wang Chao and said, "Don't think you've escaped unscathed; this matter is far from over."
Huangfu Yan's eyes burned with fury; he wished nothing more than to see Wang Chao suffer. Yet given the current situation, it was clear that he could no longer hold Wang Chao accountable. Elder Zhang slowly walked up to them and gestured to Wang Chao. Wang Chao nodded slightly in acknowledgment before stepping off the stage. Huangfu Yan followed suit, and Colonel Li saluted before leaving as well. Only Elder Zhang and Huangfu Yan remained on stage.
Elder Zhang spoke up, "Huangfu Yan, I am several years older than your father; if we consider seniority, I am your elder."
Huangfu Yan smiled slightly and replied, "Elder Zhang, in terms of duty, you are my superior; personally, when I was just a kid, you were already renowned across the land. However, there are some matters where I cannot yield—regardless of public or private interests. The Huangfu Family and Zhang Family have maintained peace for over a century. My eldest son bled for his country on foreign battlefields while my youngest became a Zombie during the outbreak."
Huangfu Yan continued, "The Huangfu Family may be flourishing with branches and leaves, but I only have three sons. My second son has been killed by Wang Chao; with enemies before me, I swear I will not rest until this vengeance is repaid!" True to his name, Huangfu Yan's fiery temperament was evident—partly due to his nature and partly from decades of military discipline.
Elder Zhang shook his head helplessly. If it weren't for Zhang Fusheng pleading repeatedly before him, he certainly wouldn't have taken this step—especially not involving Lao Zhao and those from the Academy. So many people had come for just one Wang Chao; clearly, Wang Chao had considerable influence. However, it was evident that Huangfu Yan was determined to deal with him. Elder Zhang sighed softly and glanced at the crowd below before saying, "But Zhang Fusheng is equally determined to protect him."
"Do you understand what I'm saying?" Elder Zhang gently patted Huangfu Yan on the shoulder.
As the sole heir of the Zhang Family's third generation, Zhang Fusheng would eventually take over leadership of the family. Thus, his intentions naturally reflected those of the Zhang Family. From Elder Zhang's words, Huangfu Yan discerned multiple layers of meaning: Elder Zhang intended to hand over control of the Zhang Family entirely to Zhang Fusheng; Elder Zhang's time was limited; and starting today, the Zhang Family and Huangfu Family would be irrevocably opposed.
Meanwhile, below on stage, Wang Chao and others were unaware of the brewing storm above them. Shen Zhitao turned to Zhang Fusheng and said, "I can't believe Elder Zhang is really willing to help Wang Chao. Doesn't he realize that this will only deepen the rift with the Huangfu Family? At this rate, I think the Zhang Family and Huangfu Family will be completely at odds—I just don't get it; does Wang Chao really have such influence?"
With Elder Zhang having left the stage, Colonel Li returned to Huangfu Yan's side and remarked, "Could it be that Elder Zhang truly came here for Wang Chao?"
Huangfu Yan shook his head and said, "Wang Chao is just a trigger. That old man has already seen the infinite potential of the Huangfu Family. The military is in our hands, and at this time, having guns means being the boss. The Zhang Family rose to power through martial skills, wealth, and influence, but now both have become mere decorations. With just martial skills left, how long can they dominate in this world?"
Colonel Li nodded and replied, "That's right. The Zhang Family is taking this opportunity to suppress the Huangfu Family's influence. I suspect that soon the military will make significant moves. Although the military has always been under the control of the Huangfu Family, there are many elements of the Zhang Family mixed in... especially since they control most of the forces in the Imperial Capital Military District, while the Huangfu Family's influence is scattered across Huaxia. Huangfu Yan nodded and said, "What you said makes sense. Therefore, this time, everyone I brought with me is loyal to the Huangfu Family."

Huangfu Yan smiled slightly and nodded. "That old man is over a hundred years old and has become quite cunning. If I hadn't been prepared in advance, this rescue operation would have been a disaster for us. But to make the Huangfu Family fall into despair? That's impossible. This time returning is not only for Wang Chao but also to take you all away with me. Our troops should be stationed in the northwest by now."
"What about those people?" Colonel Li asked.
"Exactly. We will set off early tomorrow morning," Huangfu Yan replied.
Colonel Li nodded and then asked, "What about Wang Chao?"
"Killing someone doesn't require a trial in any dynasty. Since we've already severed ties with the Zhang Family, we no longer need to consider their feelings. Among our people are many skilled fighters; taking out Wang Chao will be easy. You can handle this matter," Huangfu Yan instructed.
"Understood!"
