Wang Chao was propelled five meters away, knocking down countless Zombies before finally coming to a stop. Wu Wan'er looked ahead and saw that the marble floor had been gouged out by Wang Chao, revealing the soil beneath. It was evident how much damage he had endured. Originally, Wang Chao should have been able to escape unscathed, had he not tried to save himself.
At this moment, however, Wang Chao was oblivious to his injuries. During the previous battle, Mountain Gale's overwhelming presence had kept the Zombies at bay, but now, he realized that the two of them were alone. Although he was a skilled fighter at the Silver level, his aura lacked the oppressive force of Mountain Gale's. Moreover, he was carrying Yiyi and Wu Wan'er; if they were surrounded by the Zombies in the plaza, the consequences would be unimaginable.
Thinking of this, Wang Chao disregarded the pain in his back and tossed Wu Wan'er behind him. "Hold on tight!" he shouted. Before she could respond, he scooped up Yiyi and began to run swiftly. Wu Wan'er noticed the long gash on Wang Chao's back, where flesh had been torn open by debris. When she accidentally brushed against it, Wang Chao instinctively winced in pain.
Wu Wan'er quickly relaxed her grip, trying to avoid aggravating his wounds, but Wang Chao was covered in injuries. "It's fine, just hold on tight!" he urged again. Wu Wan'er nodded and clung tightly to him. Although Wang Chao's injuries looked severe, the real danger lay in the internal damage inflicted by Mountain Gale's attacks.
Yet Wang Chao could feel his cells working tirelessly to heal his wounds; this was the power of the T Virus cells. After this battle, the suppressed T Virus within him erupted once more. However, thanks to his training in Breathing Technique that enhanced his inner strength, Wang Chao was not controlled by the T Virus this time; instead, his T cells became an integral part of him.
As Wang Chao continued to run quickly, Wu Wan'er rested her head on his shoulder, tears streaming down her face. He sensed her sobs but couldn't tell whether they stemmed from fear or something else entirely. Only Wu Wan'er understood that her heart raced when Wang Chao saved her, reminiscent of when she first met someone special years ago.
In contrast, Yiyi in Wang Chao's arms remained remarkably quiet and composed, displaying a strength and resolve uncommon for a girl her age. He wondered what kind of girl Yiyi would grow into after being raised in such an environment. Shaking his head, he pushed those thoughts aside.
Before long, Wang Chao had brought both girls back to the Safe Zone. However, this time he lacked the strength to lift them over the ten-meter-high wall. Upon seeing the soldiers guarding the entrance, Wang Chao suddenly felt a blur before everything went dark; then he lost consciousness.
Meanwhile, aboard a transport helicopter that had already distanced itself from the scene.
"What? You two couldn't even kill Wang Chao?" Huangfu Yan exclaimed angrily as he slammed his fist against the helicopter wall.
Mountain Gale and Eagle Eye immediately knelt down in response. "This is my fault," Mountain Gale admitted. "I don't know why Wang Chao's strength seemed to increase during our fight—not just suddenly but continuously as we exchanged blows. This person is terrifying... He started at Brass Upper Level but ended up at Silver level by the end..."
Eagle Eye nodded in agreement and added, "You're right; I share responsibility as well. If I had been more vigilant and stayed hidden in the shadows, he wouldn't have had a chance to escape... I failed in my duties; I ask for your punishment."
"Punish the general!" Mountain Gale shouted as well.
Huangfu Yan was seething with anger, wishing he could kick the two people in front of him off the plane. Wang Chao, I will make sure to tear you into a thousand pieces! Huangfu Yan thought to himself, but he did not show any of this on his face. Instead, he wore a worried expression and said, "Since that's the case, it's good that you two are fine. I don't want you to get hurt because of a murderer who killed my son..."
Mountain Gale and Eagle Eye felt both touched and ashamed upon hearing Huangfu Yan's words. For a moment, they were overwhelmed with guilt and didn't know how to respond.
"Get up now..." Huangfu Yan said.
"What happened to him?" Shen Zhitao asked anxiously, looking at Elder Zhang.
Elder Zhang covered Wang Chao with a blanket and replied, "He's not seriously injured. He has some internal injuries, but they are not life-threatening. The wound on his back just needs to be cleaned. He isn't in a coma; he's simply exhausted. It seems to be a side effect from being in the Breathing Technique for too long. However, he is fortunate; if he had stayed in that state for another two seconds, he might not have woken up... What on earth happened that made him push himself so hard?"
Wu Wan'er, who had been listening nearby, felt tears streaming down her face once again. Yiyi held Wang Chao's hand and slowly recounted everything that had happened earlier. At that moment, Shen Zhitao finally understood why Wang Chao had looked so strange when he came to find her today. If she had paid more attention then, she wouldn't have let Wang Chao go alone to rescue Yiyi and Wu Wan'er.
The winter morning came slowly. To allow Wang Chao to rest properly, everyone had already left, but Wu Wan'er stayed behind to take care of him. Everyone knew that Wu Wan'er felt guilty and chose not to say anything. Watching Wang Chao sleep peacefully, drool escaping from his mouth, she saw a serene and calm expression that was completely different from before.
"Why did you save me?" Wu Wan'er murmured to herself. "Elder Zhang said if you had stayed in that state for even one more second, you could have died. But why would you do that? We hardly know each other; I've only cooked a few meals for you. Why is it worth it for you to save me... You're such a strange person."
But Wang Chao, deep in sleep, heard none of Wu Wan'er's words.
Standing by the window, Wu Wan'er was lost in thought when suddenly she saw petals of blood falling outside. Then came the second and third petals. Watching the pure white petals drift down, Wu Wan'er's heart finally calmed down. The snowflakes were large; it seemed like there was going to be a heavy snowfall. With this thought in mind, Wu Wan'er walked over to the bed and calmly lay down beside Wang Chao.
She softly said, "It's snowing."
