When it came to finding Wu Wan'er, the situation was quite amusing. Just because Wang Chao said he wouldn't call her, she refused to come out, hiding in the dark underground garage without moving. It seemed that if he forgot about her, she would likely stay hidden there for a lifetime. Even when Shen Zhitao went to call her, she didn't emerge but weakly said, "Brother Wang Chao won't let me go out..."
"Hey! What are you thinking about?" Shen Zhitao patted Wang Chao on the shoulder and said, "This time we’re out to kill different Zombies for experiments, to see if what Xiao Wei said is true. Our mission is quite heavy, but we must avoid those monsters that are over ten meters tall; otherwise, it would be another fierce battle. I don’t have Zhuang Peng's strength..."
Wang Chao smiled and replied, "We don't need to look for something that powerful. I think we should play it safe; safety first..." Reflecting on their previous battle, Wang Chao felt a lingering fear, but the rewards had been substantial. As he spoke, Wang Chao had already shot a normal Zombie in the head. He hurried over to check and found that there was no Crystal inside its skull. Wang Chao shook his head and continued to kill several more ordinary Zombies, examining each one only to discover that none of them contained a Crystal.
"Just as I thought," Wang Chao sighed. "These ordinary Zombies don't have any Crystals in their brains. What a pity! Otherwise, with our strength, if we could kill thousands of Zombies, wouldn’t we level up again?"
Shen Zhitao shook his head and said, "There’s no such good fortune in this world; otherwise, everyone would be superhumans and wouldn’t have to struggle in this apocalypse. But where can we find evolved Zombies? And ones that have just evolved with strength below silver level!" Wang Chao smiled and replied, "That's why I brought you here!"
Shen Zhitao looked around and asked, "The Chicken Farm?"
Wang Chao nodded seriously and explained, "Among the many Zombies we've encountered before—whether evolved or not—Zombies that originated from animals are generally stronger than those that came from humans. Whether it's dogs, bears, or wolves, they are all much tougher than humans. Even newly infected Zombies have Brass-level strength. I suspect that animal-evolved Zombies are the easiest to evolve; that's why I brought you here."
As he spoke, Wang Chao kicked open the door of the Chicken Farm, which immediately creaked loudly. Since this Chicken Farm was mostly mechanically operated with few workers around, there weren't many human Zombies inside when they entered. The first thing they saw were rectangular metal cages filled with about ten chickens each; it was uncertain whether they had mutated.
Wang Chao leaned in closer to take a look when suddenly a hen stretched out its long claws and tried to scratch him through the cage. Startled, Wang Chao jumped back; the sharp claws and unusual aggression indicated that this chicken had definitely mutated. Realizing this, Wang Chao wasted no time—his blade flashed swiftly and soon a chicken's head fell into his hand. With another flick of his knife, a Crystal the size of a fingernail dropped into his palm; it looked dull but had a slight copper sheen.
Wang Chao held the Crystal in his hand for a long time without any signs of absorption.
"What’s going on?" Wang Chao asked. "Although this Crystal looks dull and lifeless, it should still be absorbable!"
Shen Zhitao nodded and said, "Think carefully about what you did when you absorbed that previous Crystal."
Wang Chao recalled the moment he took out the Crystal, murmuring to himself as he repeated the actions. First, he had squeezed the Crystal to feel its texture, then held it up for everyone to see. Just as they were about to get a good look, the Crystal emitted a glow and vanished into his body. As he thought and acted simultaneously, he gently squeezed the Crystal again and suddenly felt a surge of power flowing into him.
"This energy is so minimal!" Wang Chao exclaimed. "It probably takes hundreds of these to match the effect of that one before. But Xiao Wei was right; even if the energy contained is limited, there are tens of thousands of chickens here. If we can bring all these Crystals back, we’ll be rich!"
"Even if we can kill these Zombie Chickens one by one, do you have a bag big enough to carry them?" Shen Zhitao shook her head.
Wang Chao chuckled to himself, thinking, would I really tell you about my Spatial Ring? Even with tens of thousands of chickens, my Spatial Ring would be more than enough. After all, I just upgraded, and the expanded space in my Spatial Ring hasn’t been filled yet. This is perfect for storing these Crystals! With that thought in mind, Wang Chao said, "We’ll take back as many as we can. The rest can be collected later. I think we’re probably the first ones to know about this..."
"Exactly, let’s split up," Shen Zhitao replied. "For these utterly harmless Zombies, this is truly the best way to farm Crystals." With that, she took off first. Wang Chao nodded; these Zombie Chickens were completely at their mercy in their cages. He didn’t even need a dagger; instead, his hands transformed into Bone Knives. In an instant, he killed several Zombie Chickens in one cage and then willed the Crystals into his Spatial Ring.
"Look over there! There’s a little chicken! Look over there! It has little chicks! Peep peep..." While harvesting, Wang Chao happily sang to himself. But something felt off; since these Zombie Chickens were at Brass level strength, they should be stronger than ordinary Zombies. Yet in this situation, they were weaker than even regular roosters.
Having already collected a couple of hundred Crystals, Wang Chao continued walking but found an empty cage. He didn’t think much of it and moved on to the next one—empty again. He checked several more cages only to find them all empty. Suddenly, it struck him like a bolt from the blue; he quickly ran toward Shen Zhitao while shouting, "Queen! It’s dangerous here!"
Shen Zhitao was just putting a few Crystals into her pocket when suddenly a cloud of dust kicked up in the distance!
