When Wang Chao carried the two bodies back, the other team members had not yet returned. In this day when communication had completely collapsed, it became particularly difficult to connect with one another. If possible, they had to find a way to restore the communication system, but that was a matter for later. Yiyi and Wu Wan'er noticed Wang Chao's low spirits and chose not to disturb him, retreating to another room instead.
Instead, Little Wolf stayed by Wang Chao's side. He faced the two corpses, resting his head on Little Wolf's soft body, a cigarette held between his fingers. Since the outbreak of the Zombie crisis, Wang Chao had not smoked at all. For an old smoker like him, this was unimaginable. Watching the wisps of smoke rise, Wang Chao finally felt his heart calm down.
In the evening, everyone gradually returned. The members of the Bioterrorism Security Department saw the two bodies and fell into a heavy silence. For a Zombie without consciousness existing in this world, death might indeed be the best destination for them. At that moment, Shen Zhitao stood up and said, "Everyone from the Bioterrorism Security Department, stand up and line up!"
As soon as he finished speaking, the members of the Bioterrorism Security Department gathered together. Yiyi and her companions watched in astonishment because this team looked quite "ridiculous." Not only were there differences in gender, but also in age; the oldest, Tang Feng, was around thirty or forty years old, while the youngest, Xiao Wei, was only in his teens. Moreover, their clothing styles and colors varied greatly.
Yet every face wore a serious and earnest expression.
"Salute!" Shen Zhitao shouted.
With a swish, the entire team saluted together, though each person's movements were not quite uniform; some even performed their military salute incorrectly. But in that moment, Yiyi and her friends were moved by this atmosphere and couldn't help but stand up.
"At ease!" Shen Zhitao said. "They are true soldiers."
Wang Chao nodded, recalling many things: those twenty-some soldiers who used their bodies to stop a Nuclear Leak; countless others who sacrificed their lives to protect civilians from Zombies; and these two corpses before him. China has never lacked courageous soldiers! This was a fact Wang Chao had witnessed time and again in battle.
"They are true soldiers," Tang Feng said quietly.
"Indeed," Wang Chao agreed.
After burying the two bodies in the garden behind the community, their brief month-long stay in Yucheng was coming to an end. Although there was still no news or whereabouts of Ouyang En, there was little else they could do at this point. The urgent task remained to head to Jing City to search for Da Qiang and regroup with everyone from the Bioterrorism Security Department so they could survive together once more.
However, Wang Chao was actually concerned about one more thing: the situation with Zhuang Peng and the others. After much consideration, everyone decided it would be best to postpone this matter. Even though Wang Chao's strength had improved slightly, he was still on par with Zhuang Peng's level. Moreover, there was a nearly two-meter-tall man among them. Although Wang Chao had severed one of his arms, his strength could not be underestimated. Previously, when facing that ten-meter-tall monster, Gangzi had managed to confront it head-on, something that Wang Chao could not do at this moment. Therefore, until his strength reached a certain level, it was better to avoid contact with those individuals.
Ultimately, it all came down to his own weakness. Even someone who used living bones as arrows could reach Silver Mid-Tier strength. If he did not continue to grow stronger in this world, he wouldn't be able to protect others, let alone himself. Strength! He needed to rapidly enhance his abilities! Sitting on the plane, Wang Chao thought to himself.
"At our current speed, we should arrive in Jing City in about two weeks," said Shen Zhiying, who was piloting the helicopter. "However, there are two issues we must consider in advance. First, the aviation fuel we have is only enough for three more weeks of use. This means that after reaching Jing City, we will only have one week’s worth of fuel left. Additionally, this type of aviation fuel is different from regular gasoline or diesel; collecting it poses certain difficulties."
Wang Chao knew nothing about operating machinery. He had previously studied economics in college, and that skill had proven to be the least useful in this chaotic world. Thus, he was unaware of what fuel helicopters used. Hearing Shen Zhiying mention it made him realize this was a serious problem since it was their last means of escape.
Wang Chao sighed and asked, "What’s the other issue?"
"The other issue is that our food and drinking water are running low. The supplies we brought from the capital are almost gone," Shen Zhiying replied calmly while flying the aircraft. "Currently, we have enough for about a month, but to be safe, we should try to gather more."
Wang Chao wasn’t too worried about food and water since more than half of the space in his Spatial Ring was reserved for storing food and drinking water. However, he couldn’t share this with everyone; he would just say he found supplies somewhere else when the time came. As for the helicopter fuel issue, he truly had no solution, so he could only ask, "Sister Shen, where can we find that helicopter fuel?"
Shen Zhiying thought for a moment before responding, "Naturally from a factory that produces fuel. However, I’m not familiar with Jing City and don’t know which factories there produce aviation fuel. But there should be storage at the airport in Jing City; for our small transport helicopter, that fuel should be sufficient—assuming there hasn’t been a fire or anything like that; otherwise..."
Shen Zhiying didn’t finish her sentence, but everyone in the helicopter understood what she meant.
"Alright then, if that's the case, let's fly directly to Jing City’s airport. By the way, does anyone know where the airport is?" Wang Chao asked.
Everyone shook their heads. Suddenly, Wu Wan'er’s soft voice broke through the silence as she said, "I know!" Seeing everyone looking at her made Wu Wan'er blush slightly as she continued, "When I was bored in the capital, I practically memorized most of the maps of China and happened to see this city..."
Most of China’s cities? How many could that possibly be! Could Wu Wan'er really remember them all?
"What do you mean?" Wang Chao asked. "You remember most of the cities in Huaxia clearly?"
"That's right!" Wu Wan'er replied with a confident smile.
