Commander Yu had a habit of taking afternoon naps, and everyone had returned to the villa. Wang Chao seized this opportunity to find Liu Jie. Previously, Wang Chao had used the excuse that Liu Jie was his savior, so Old Hao didn’t say anything about Wang Chao visiting Liu Jie; he merely patted Wang Chao on the shoulder. Wang Chao smiled and went directly to Liu Jie’s dilapidated home. He closed the door and slammed his hand down on Liu Jie’s wooden bed.
The force was so great that it broke one of the bed's wooden slats, and the sound immediately echoed out. Wang Chao gritted his teeth, suppressing the endless anger within him, and deliberately shouted, “This bed is terrible; it broke after just one hit.” Hearing no unusual sounds from outside, Wang Chao finally relaxed and gave a self-deprecating smile.
Liu Jie, unaware of Wang Chao's morning ordeal, noticed Wang Chao's sudden outburst and asked, “Commander, what happened?”
The image of a swaying corpse flashed through Wang Chao's mind again, but he merely sighed and said, “Let’s not talk about that for now. Did you manage to handle what I instructed you yesterday?” At this moment, Liu Jie appeared cautious and lowered his voice as he replied, “Commander, I’ve figured everything out from yesterday and clarified it with them. Thanks to you; if you hadn’t intervened, those people would have opened fire. Among those hundred or so people, there would have definitely been heavy casualties.”
Wang Chao felt a slight sense of relief in his heart and said, “If you can think like that, then I’m reassured.”
However, Liu Jie showed a helpless expression and continued, “As for my brothers, they are naturally loyal to you and trust you completely. But there are still many people in the Safe Zone who don’t understand the truth; they only see you as another pawn under Commander Yu… cough cough. Even today when they came here, they looked at me with strange eyes. Given how things have progressed, even if your plan succeeds in the end, it might still provoke a rebellion.”
Wang Chao sighed softly; this was precisely what he feared most. But what could be done? Sometimes misunderstandings arise like this. He suddenly recalled the scene when Commander Lei was pelted with stones by the crowd and couldn’t help but smile bitterly. Shaking off his thoughts, he asked Liu Jie, “By the way, how are Tang Feng and the others? Have you informed Xiao Wei about the situation here?”
Liu Jie nodded and said, “This morning I pretended to go out to collect Crystal but actually contacted Commander Tang Feng and the others. I told Xiao Wei about last night’s events. Xiao Wei asked me to deliver a note to you. He also said to destroy it after reading; it must leave no trace behind. And whatever you do, don’t burn it; the best way is to swallow it.”
Xiao Wei didn’t know that Wang Chao had a Spatial Ring; as long as Wang Chao stored the note in it, that note would never appear in this world again.
Liu Jie carefully took out the note. Wang Chao unfolded it and saw Xiao Wei’s handwriting. The small characters read: “I have understood the situation in the Safe Zone. Currently, there are two issues: first, regarding last night’s chaos—there were too many people around; our plan may have leaked. Even if it hasn’t leaked yet, if Old Hao and others find out that you acted last night without killing anyone, it will expose us. Second is the issue of our respective strengths; the enemy has two lower-tier Silver experts while we do too—our chances are fifty-fifty. Moreover, Commander Yu is at Silver Upper Tier level; even with you included along with Little Wolf and Shen Zhitao, our chances remain fifty-fifty.”
“Therefore, it's just a gamble; we must act within three days or risk exposure. As for whether or not to act—it’s up to you.” Wang Chao continued reading: “We have already infiltrated near the Safe Zone. If we are to act, fireworks will be our signal; I have communicated this with Liu Jie. If we decide against action for safety’s sake—kill Liu Jie and leave as soon as possible. With our strength, we cannot defeat them; they won’t pursue us outside of the Safe Zone.”
Upon reaching this point, Wang Chao was startled and looked up at Liu Jie, who was staring back at him in confusion. This indicated that Liu Jie hadn’t seen the note yet; Wang Chao let out a sigh of relief and continued reading: “Rest assured that Liu Jie will definitely not look at this note; therefore your decision is crucial at this moment—remember to destroy the note.”
Wang Chao never expected that Xiao Wei could even guess whether Liu Jie would read the note. This showed just how sharp this teenager's mind was. Wang Chao clenched the note in his palm and quietly stored it in his Spatial Ring. Then he looked up seriously at Liu Jie and said, "Liu Jie, the assassination of Commander Yu will take place within the next three days. You should have received the signal by now, right?"
Liu Jie nodded.
"Good. Inform the team members to be ready and prepared to act at any moment," Wang Chao said earnestly.
"Understood."
He hadn’t considered this point himself; with his own strength, none of the people from the Safe Zone had been killed by him. Commander Yu was a naturally suspicious person and would definitely question this fact, but due to time constraints, he hadn’t had the chance to investigate. Fortunately, this matter had been communicated to Xiao Wei; otherwise, he might have continued to hold onto a sense of luck, which was truly unwise.
Moreover, it seemed that Xiao Wei's plan only had a fifty percent chance of success, meaning that either Commander Yu would be completely annihilated or his own Squad would face total destruction. If he were to withdraw quietly now, he could certainly save himself. However, how could he abandon Liu Jie, who trusted him so much? Having come this far, what he bore was no longer just his own life. Therefore, Wang Chao chose not to kill Liu Jie or run away; instead, he walked toward the villa. Before leaving, Wang Chao left a bag of rice with Liu Jie as a way to appear grateful and not raise any suspicions.
Upon returning to the villa, he coincidentally encountered Commander Yu waking up and coming out of the villa. He saw Wang Chao walking in through the front door and waved at him, saying, "Wang Chao, my brother! Just in time for your return. I told you before that what happened in the morning was just an appetizer. Come with me; I'll show you something more exciting."
Wang Chao felt disgusted inside but forced a smile on his face. At that moment, a woman named Xiaoyun also walked out from the house and approached Wang Chao without showing any emotion. Was she truly there for him or merely keeping an eye on him?
