Everyone followed Xiao Wei's plan and retrieved about ten thousand Brass Crystals from the warehouse. Wu Wan'er was quite skilled; she crafted small pouches for each member of the Squad, filling each with around four hundred Brass Crystals. They hung at their waists, not too long, so that in case of danger, they could easily break them, both convenient and aesthetically pleasing. However, a week passed without any suspicious individuals appearing; instead, the work on the back mountain was nearing completion. 0

Wang Chao had no knowledge of farming, but fortunately, there were many elders in the Safe Zone. These elders had sown seeds by hand before automation took over. Wang Chao deeply resonated with the saying that having an elder at home is like having a treasure. Without these people, many things would be impossible to accomplish, such as agricultural planting and industrial machinery usage—matters that the current generation of young people knew nothing about. 0

Everything in the Safe Zone remained orderly. However, recently, Little Wolf had been acting unusually, disappearing every day and running at incredible speeds—a clear advantage of its species. Even Wang Chao couldn't keep up. For several days, this behavior made Wang Chao uneasy. Was Little Wolf going through a rebellious phase? It was reminiscent of those teenage girls who seemed to be out all the time. 0

One day, Wang Chao firmly stopped Little Wolf. Little Wolf shook its head impatiently. "Listen here, Wolf," Wang Chao said. "You seem to be planning a rebellion lately. Why are you never home? You need to explain yourself today. Otherwise, I absolutely cannot let you leave." With one hand on his hip and the other pointing at Little Wolf's nose, he found Little Wolf nuzzling against his arm as if trying to act cute. 0

Wang Chao pursed his lips and said, "Don't try that with me; that kind of thinking is dangerous! Who have you learned this from? A real man takes responsibility for his actions. Now tell me, what have you been up to? No licking or messing around... Hey, you still..." Before Wang Chao could finish, Little Wolf tugged at his arm with its teeth, making him feel ticklish. It seemed like Little Wolf wanted to take him somewhere. 0

"Are you trying to take me to that place?" Wang Chao asked. 0

"Woo woo woo! Awoooo!" Little Wolf whimpered, nodding repeatedly. 0

Wang Chao nodded back and then mounted Little Wolf's back. He gave it a pat on the rear and said, "Run on, young one!" Little Wolf turned its head and howled twice as if protesting Wang Chao's slap on its backside. They raced off together; Little Wolf's red fur glimmered as if it were on fire. From a distance, all one could see was a streak of white and a blaze of red—truly an impressive sight! 0

This is sci-fi; it's really sci-fi, Wang Chao thought. 0

They ran for an unknown distance until they reached a large tree where Little Wolf finally slowed down. It called out a few times to attract nearby Zombies. However, Little Wolf didn't seem concerned; with Wang Chao around, there was nothing they couldn't handle—even if they couldn't defeat them outright, they could certainly escape! Wang Chao shook his head and eliminated all the surrounding Zombies. Looking around, he noticed many Zombies already lying dead on the ground—likely all killed by Little Wolf. 0

"What do you come here for every day?" Wang Chao asked as he scanned the area. Aside from more Zombies approaching from further away, there was nothing else around. Could it be that Little Wolf was strong enough to act on its own whims? Did it just want to kill a few Zombies for fun? When Wang Chao shifted his gaze back again, he suddenly understood. About forty to fifty meters away from them stood a fox—two meters long and seemingly mutated—but compared to Little Wolf, it looked like a small cat. 0

This fox was entirely fire-red with slightly blackened eyes as if wearing eyeliner; it appeared quite alluring but bared its teeth at Wang Chao while flexing its limbs as its fur bristled up. It emitted low growls that seemed to threaten him. Was Little Wolf preparing to confront this fox? However, judging by the fox's appearance, it clearly didn't seem like a match for Little Wolf at all. 0

Little Wolf let out a couple of howls, nudging Wang Chao, and called out a few more times. However, the little fox remained unmoved, seemingly wary of Wang Chao. Suddenly, a phrase from long ago, popular in China, flashed through Wang Chao's mind: "Spring has arrived, the ice and snow begin to melt, all things revive, and animals enter their mating season..." 0

Damn it, animals are just animals; as soon as spring comes, they start looking for partners. But then Wang Chao realized that he had only confirmed his relationship with Yang Mengying about a week ago. Could it be that spring really is the mating season? He quickly pushed this sordid thought out of his mind and asked Little Wolf, "Is she your girlfriend?" 0

Little Wolf jumped around happily. Seeing that the fox was still hesitant to approach, Little Wolf ran over and kept rubbing against the fox while calling out, as if to say that Wang Chao was not their enemy but their friend. The fox hesitated for a moment but eventually followed Little Wolf to Wang Chao's side. Wang Chao smiled; it seemed this little fox was indeed shy. 0

Thinking of this, Wang Chao put on his friendliest smile and crouched down to pet the fox. However, as soon as he reached out his hand, the fox bared its teeth and ran away, leaving Wang Chao feeling helpless. After waiting a few minutes, the fox finally returned. Wang Chao cautiously extended his hand to touch it. This time, the fox finally calmed down. As he stroked the little fox's fur, he found it surprisingly smooth. Did fur really differ between males and females? 0

Upon reflection, it seemed so; Little Wolf's fur was indeed coarser compared to that of the little fox. 0

No wonder Little Wolf had been running outside every day these past few days; it turned out he was in love. Wang Chao couldn't help but wonder how far things had progressed between Little Wolf and the fox—holding hands? Kissing? Or had they gone all the way? He dared not think further; was this considered teasing Little Wolf's girlfriend? With that thought in mind, Wang Chao cleared his throat twice and said, "Since your family has already agreed, I won't disturb you two any longer. You young ones enjoy your time together; I'll just wait nearby for you to find me when you're done." 0

Little Wolf howled a few times as if understanding Wang Chao's meaning. 0

Walking away a bit, Wang Chao watched Little Wolf and the fox playing joyfully together. He lay back comfortably on the ground, gazing at the blue sky and white clouds, along with the distant zombies. Wang Chao felt his body and mind relax completely as he seemed to forget all his worries—after all, Little Wolf was in love now. 0
