The Crystal radiated a dazzling golden light, distinct from the previous dull Brass Crystal. Wang Chao felt a mix of shock and joy in his heart. Could this possibly be the legendary Golden Crystal? He was about to strike it rich! Without hesitation, Wang Chao crushed the Crystal in his hand. After doing so, he dared not linger; his shoes were already beginning to leak, and it wouldn't be long before they turned into a puddle of pus.
As he absorbed the energy, Wang Chao activated the Breathing Technique and felt a powerful force surge within him, doubling his speed. At that moment, he had no idea that this Crystal had significantly boosted his strength, elevating him two tiers higher. Wang Chao's power had soared to the Golden Intermediate level, something he couldn't even dream of.
Inside, Wang Chao thought to himself, "This must be a breakthrough to Golden level! It has to be Golden! How could it not be?"
After rushing past the Mucus zone, Wang Chao quickly took off his shoes and sat down on the ground. Looking at himself, he was ragged and covered in countless wounds—some from bites and others corroded by Mucus. However, compared to others in the Safe Zone, Wang Chao was among the least injured. After tidying himself up a bit, he headed north.
As he sprinted toward the back mountain, he surprisingly didn't encounter any teams from Tang Feng's side. But it made sense; Wang Chao had come directly across the lake while Tang Feng's main force was likely taking a longer route from behind due to their ignorance of the situation here. Wang Chao arriving first wasn't strange at all. The night was dark and silent; under the faint moonlight, he wondered where Yang Mengying and the others were hiding with the women and children.
Suddenly, Wang Chao heard a gasp. Although the sound was faint, in the stillness of the night, it resonated clearly with him. That voice was unmistakably familiar—who else could it be but Wu Wan'er? Without saying a word, Wang Chao quickly moved toward that direction. He dared not call out; if Wu Wan'er were in danger, his actions might alert any lurking threats.
As Wang Chao approached the area, he heard someone speaking and immediately halted. The moonlight danced around him as he caught sight of several shadowy figures in the distance. The speaker was none other than Shen Zhiying. Wasn't she supposed to be following Li Mao? He heard Shen Zhiying say, "Li Mao, it's late at night; everyone else is fighting Zombies in the Safe Zone. Why are you here?"
Li Mao recognized that their presence meant things had been exposed; otherwise, they wouldn't be here. He chuckled coldly and replied, "Ah, Shen Sisters! Oh, Yang Mengying, you’re here too! And so many sisters—are you planning to entertain me?"
Shen Zhiying ignored his taunts and said instead, "Night Raccoon; I’m right about this, aren’t I? One of Huangfu Yan's Elite Eighteen."
Wang Chao was taken aback by this revelation. He realized that Li Mao was definitely not a friend; his approach had ulterior motives. If he was indeed one of Huangfu Yan's subordinates, there had been several opportunities for him to kill Wang Chao before but he hadn’t done so—what could his intentions be now that he had captured Wan'er?
Thinking about this made Wang Chao's head spin with confusion, but instead of acting rashly, he chose to observe quietly.
Li Mao smiled slightly and said, "I am Night Raccoon; my specialty is stealth and disguise. When I was on the back mountain earlier, I believed Wang Chao hadn’t seen my face—and that turned out to be true. Otherwise, during our encounter in the sewer, he would have killed us instantly. I just wonder how you figured out I was suspicious."
"This question, let me answer it for you!" Xiao Wei said, holding her gun. "From the first day I saw you, I always thought your eyes were a bit strange. Now I realize that this is a sign of you hiding your true strength. Your eyes lack spirit; only the dead have such a gaze. No living person would look like you do.
