Wang Chao quietly sat down, allowing the Zombies to bite him. Gradually, he felt no pain. He had realized that this place was not the real world. Trapped in a cycle before, Wang Chao had lost all sense of time, but now that he was clear-headed, he was astonished to discover that he had unknowingly gone through hundreds of cycles. Each time was a new day, meaning Wang Chao had been trapped here for a year.
Ignoring the Zombies around him, Wang Chao pulled open the large door. The moment he did, the Zombies behind him completely vanished. The dark scenery within the doorway disappeared, replaced by a warm light that enveloped him. As he stepped inside, he awakened from his dazed state.
When he opened his eyes again, the surroundings were still shrouded in mist. It seemed these mists had the power to induce hallucinations. Wang Chao stood up and looked around, only to see Little Grudge sitting on the ground, taking on a human form with her eyes closed and her body slightly rising and falling as if she were breathing. Wang Chao couldn't tell if Little Grudge still belonged to the realm of living beings.
However, it appeared that Little Grudge was also caught in a cycle. He couldn't discern what kind of cycle trapped her. Wang Chao understood that this mist seemed to invade the most vulnerable parts of one's heart. When faced with such things, anyone who lacked strong willpower would surely crumble, just like Wang Chao had. Even now, he could still feel the sadness lingering in his heart.
Even knowing that these feelings were false, they felt all too real.
Watching Little Grudge's face shift between laughter and tears made Wang Chao's heart ache. Everyone has things and people they care about; everyone has the right to live. This was something Wang Chao deeply understood. He sighed and transformed one hand into a Bone Knife, preparing to strike at Little Grudge's head. Without her special escape skills in human form, dealing with her would be as simple as swatting an insect.
But just as the Bone Knife was about to touch Little Grudge's neck, Wang Chao hesitated and stopped his hand. It wasn't out of mercy; if it were Huangfu Yan's subordinates before him, Wang Chao would have acted without hesitation. But now, he felt that the conflict between him and Little Grudge wasn't irreconcilable; he genuinely felt some pity for her.
The Bone Knife hovered over Little Grudge's neck but couldn't bring itself to strike. Finally, with a heavy sigh, Wang Chao retracted the Bone Knife. He gently patted Little Grudge on the shoulder. She seemed to respond slightly to his touch but remained trapped in her cycle and unable to awaken. Wang Chao had no choice but to knock lightly on her head. This time when he looked again, he saw Little Grudge's expression gradually soften.
Wang Chao nodded; it seemed Little Grudge would wake up soon. Sure enough, after about a minute of waiting, she suddenly exclaimed, "No!" It was unclear what she had seen in her environment; she curled up tightly like a small animal in its early stages of development—adorable yet pitiful.
Wang Chao sighed and gently shook Little Grudge until she finally regained consciousness. "It's okay," he said softly. "You were just trapped in an illusion created by this mist; everything you experienced was fake..." After saying this, he noticed that Little Grudge still sat there dazedly, seemingly struggling to escape from that environment.
Wang Chao understood this feeling well; after all, when he first awoke from his own ordeal, sadness had surged through him like a flood. Even now, he felt residual unease as he watched Little Grudge remain silent. Not wanting to disturb her further, he closed his eyes and slowly practiced his Breathing Technique within himself to adjust and calm down. Yang Mengying and Yiyi were safe; they were fine—this is what Wang Chao told himself.
He truly didn't know what kind of place this was; the illusion felt so real. After completing a full cycle of breathing techniques over three hours later, when Wang Chao opened his eyes again, he found Little Grudge sitting right in front of him, startling him awake with a jolt. "Damn it! You almost scared me to death! Why are you sitting so close?"
Little Grudge stared intently at Wang Chao and said, "Was it you who pulled me out of the illusion just now?"
"Of course, is there anyone else here?" Wang Chao replied helplessly.
"Good!" Little Grudge said. "Then let me ask you, why did you save me?"
Wang Chao fell silent for a moment before slowly saying, "Because I didn't save you last time. If I save you this time, we'll be even. Besides, since you can control Zombie, why not send those Zombie far away? That way, the chances of human survival would greatly increase. Who knows, the reconstruction of civilization after the apocalypse might just be in your hands."
Little Grudge burst into laughter and said to Wang Chao, "You wouldn't even save me when I was alone before, and now you're acting like a savior. You're quite the hypocrite. Just because you saved my life this time doesn't mean I won't look for an opportunity to kill you. When I was trapped in that cycle and you didn't kill me, that was your loss. Don't expect me to be grateful..."
Wang Chao replied, "You can think whatever you want. Saving you is my business, not yours. If you want to follow me, then follow; if you want to try to kill me, go ahead. But honestly, aside from controlling Zombie, your own strength probably doesn't even reach Brass Mid-Tier. Don't think it's easy to kill me; even an ordinary person would be difficult for you to handle..."
Little Grudge remained silent.
Suddenly, Wang Chao had an idea and said to Little Grudge, "How about this? Since you don't want to owe me a favor and you can transform into black mist, just take me up to the cliff. I'll pretend I never saved you, and when you decide to kill me, there won't be any psychological burden on you. What do you think?"
After saying that, Wang Chao fixed his gaze on Little Grudge, eager to see if she would agree. Little Grudge showed no expression on her face. After hesitating for a moment, she said, "I can agree to your condition. Don't worry; I will safely take you to the top of the cliff. After that, we will owe each other nothing, and I will naturally seek your life."
After a pause, Little Grudge continued, "However, right now my head hurts a lot; it seems I haven't fully recovered from the illusion yet. You'll have to wait for me for a bit..."
Upon hearing this, Wang Chao nodded vigorously as if he were pounding garlic. He thought to himself that it wasn't about her not recovering; it was just that he had hit her a bit too hard...
