From above the screen, the monster appeared to be even larger than Little Wolf. It stood on all fours, sporting a long horn on its head and covered in thick fur, exuding an imposing presence. It was seen thrashing about in the corridor, seemingly engaged in a struggle with the iron gate. Although the gate was closed, the creature seemed to believe it was locked. With a single swipe of its claw, the iron gate shattered into pieces, metal fragments embedding deeply into the walls.
"Damn!" Wang Chao exclaimed. "What the hell is that thing? It can smash an iron gate with one claw! I doubt I could do that!"
"What’s going on?" Gao Rui replied. "It wasn’t this fierce when I caught it before. Has it gone berserk? Did it evolve into the Mastiff King during its self-destructive rampage? As people say, when a mastiff gives birth to nine pups, if their food is cut off at birth, they will fight among themselves, and the only one that survives is called the Mastiff King! This beast is inherently cruel and quite powerful."
After a pause, Gao Rui continued, "The situation is similar now. It has been days without food; it must have triggered its latent rage through infighting. I see now that it has become inherently furious..." While listening to Gao Rui's explanation, Wang Chao watched as the massive screen displayed several iron gates being smashed apart by the Mastiff King.
"What are you staring at?" Wang Chao turned around to find Gao Rui staring at him. "Isn't this all your fault?"
Gao Rui responded, "You’re mistaken, my friend. You wanted me to accompany you, but look at our current situation; we can’t leave unless you deal with this Mastiff King. All the monsters here are done for; you’re our only hope now. It's time to see whether genetic mixing or cellular enhancement is more effective!"
"The two evolutionary paths of life I can think of are embodied in you!" Gao Rui said seriously, placing a hand on Wang Chao's shoulder. His expression revealed an immense yearning for science that left Wang Chao incredulous that such words came from this disheveled man. At this point, there was no choice; if they wanted to escape, they had to go through the corridor, which meant encountering the Mastiff King.
If he didn’t want to remain underground forever, their only option was to charge out.
Just as Wang Chao was about to rise, he saw Gao Rui bring over several medical bags filled with yellow liquid. Without needing to ask, he knew what they contained. Gao Rui said, "Wang Chao, take this; it's a useful tool. While it may not kill instantly, it should at least incapacitate it temporarily. That's how I always manage to capture them!"
Wang Chao shook his head, thinking it was absurd that he would end up using urine against monsters in his lifetime.
"Just wait here; I'll go deal with it!" Wang Chao tucked the plastic bag into his Spatial Ring and said, "Let’s go, Little Wolf!"
Gao Rui nodded and added, "If anything happens, just run into the glass corridor. Even if they manage to knock you all out then, we might still be able to take down that Mastiff King."
Wang Chao said little as he led Little Wolf through the glass door. As soon as they stepped into the corridor, a chilling wind swept past, sending shivers down their spines. It felt as though the Mastiff King could leap out from around any corner. From what he had seen on the surveillance footage, only this one Mastiff King remained; everywhere else lay the corpses of monsters, their wounds deep and wide, still oozing blood.
Just after turning a corner, they spotted the Mastiff King tearing into a monster's corpse. Upon noticing Wang Chao and Little Wolf, the Mastiff King halted its gnawing and turned to fix its eerie purple eyes on them. Wang Chao had only ever seen red, yellow, blue, green, and black before; when had purple appeared? Damn it, could it really have mutated?
Without hesitation, Wang Chao hurled a bag of aged urine at the Mastiff King, which burst upon impact. Instead of being deterred, the Mastiff King seemed enraged and charged forward. Wang Chao was taken aback; the beast was upon him so quickly that he barely had time to draw his Panlong Blade.
Transforming it into a Bone Knife, he held it before him like a pair of scissors. The Mastiff King pressed its paws against him, and Wang Chao felt as if an immense weight was pinning him down. The red bricks beneath his feet cracked under the pressure, revealing yellow earth below. At that moment, Little Wolf leaped over Wang Chao's head and aimed to pounce on the Mastiff King. However, the Mastiff King snapped its jaws at Little Wolf.
Seeing this, Little Wolf dared not confront it directly. Instead, he used the wall for leverage to flip behind the Mastiff King and opened his mouth to bite. But being called a king for a reason, the Mastiff King curled up and then sprang back out before either could react. Its tail lashed out with tremendous force, sending both Wang Chao and Little Wolf flying against the wall, causing bricks to shatter.
Before Wang Chao could hit the ground, the Mastiff King charged again. With no time to think, Wang Chao transformed into a shield just as the Mastiff King collided with him. Even with his shield raised, deep gashes were carved into it by the beast's claws. Little Wolf rushed in from behind to bite at the Mastiff King, but it turned around just in time. Seizing this opportunity, Wang Chao quickly transformed his hands into Bone Knives.
He thrust them forward at an angle. The Mastiff King found itself caught between them; despite its superior strength, it struggled against both attackers. When it turned to retaliate against Little Wolf, Wang Chao struck true with one of his knives, slicing deeply into its body. The Mastiff King howled in pain but did not look back; instead, it lunged forward and sank its teeth into Little Wolf's leg while Little Wolf bit down on its leg in return.
Seeing this unfold, Wang Chao wasted no time. He drew his Panlong Blade and aimed a strike at the Mastiff King. The power of the Panlong Blade surpassed that of his Bone Knives. As the wolf and mastiff wrestled with each other, Wang Chao seized the moment to attempt decapitating the Mastiff King. Just then, sensing danger, the Mastiff King released its grip on Little Wolf’s leg.
The Mastiff King tried to escape, but Little Wolf clung tightly to its body. Although Wang Chao's strike did not sever its head, it landed squarely on the beast's back, opening a gaping wound that sprayed blood everywhere. In agony, the Mastiff King's eyes blazed with murderous intent as it seemed ready to tear Wang Chao apart.
With wild fury, it charged at him once more.
