The defenses here were somewhat weaker compared to Wang Chao's Jing City Safe Zone. This was partly due to Commander Yu's fear, as the area was surrounded entirely by barbed wire instead of the concrete walls found in Jing City Safe Zone. When the convoy approached, a man armed with a Submachine Gun stepped forward to block their path and asked, "Who are you?"
"We're from Jing City Safe Zone, here for trade," Shen Zhitao replied as he got out of the vehicle.
The man nodded and pulled out a walkie-talkie from his waist, speaking into it quietly so that the others couldn't hear. After a moment, he turned back and said, "Follow the vehicle in front; they will take you to our Safe Zone leader." As he spoke, several soldiers opened the gate made of iron bars. Shen Zhitao got back into the car, and a Military Jeep appeared in front of the convoy, clearly designated as the lead vehicle.
Looking through the glass, they could see many pedestrians along the way; it truly was a large Safe Zone.
After passing through several streets, they arrived near a large square where the Military Jeep came to a stop, and the convoy followed suit. The leading soldier got out of the front Military Jeep and addressed Wang Chao and the others, saying, "Our District Chief is in that building right ahead. I'll take you inside." Wang Chao nodded and waved his hand, signaling for over a hundred people to jump down from several large trucks.
Due to the tarpaulin covering the trucks, those from Coastal Safety Zone had not anticipated that the last few vehicles were loaded with over a hundred fully armed individuals dressed in matching black combat uniforms designed by Shen Zhiying. She claimed these outfits were best suited for combat. The hundred soldiers quickly formed two teams on either side of the trucks, standing at attention with precise movements that exuded an air of authority.
The powerful presence of these men made both the surrounding crowd and soldiers from Coastal Safety Zone tense. The men from Jing City Safe Zone had fought against hundreds of thousands of Zombies; those who survived were not ordinary individuals. Just their aura alone surpassed that of the soldiers in Coastal Safety Zone. Wang Chao looked at everyone with satisfaction and commanded, "Stand by!"
The Guards remained silent, taking up positions with their weapons raised, causing gasps among those nearby.
Wang Chao nodded slightly and cleared his throat before addressing the still-dazed Coastal Soldier. "Where's your commander? Lead the way!" The soldier finally snapped back to reality and hurriedly led them into a tall building at one corner of the square. It seemed this structure had once been used as a shopping mall but was now filled with residents on its lower floors.
The District Chief's office was located on one of the upper floors.
"Come in!" After knocking on the door, a deep voice called from within. The soldier pushed open the door, and they slowly walked inside. The walls had been removed to create a larger space; immediately upon entering, they saw a large conference table that could easily seat dozens of people. Behind it were large floor-to-ceiling windows offering a view of the square below—quite convenient for conducting business.
Sitting at the head of the table was a man in his thirties with neat short hair dressed in formal attire. In contrast, Wang Chao wore black special operations gear similar to that of his Guards, which felt somewhat out of place in this setting. This man was likely the District Chief of Coastal Safety Zone, flanked by several others—one also wearing combat gear and appearing to be at least at Platinum tier level—suggesting he was responsible for security within Coastal Safety Zone.
Wang Chao introduced the people around him.
The District Chief said, "Well said, well said. My name is Zhao Qin, the highest official of the Coastal Safety Zone. This is Lin Chuan, responsible for safety in Coastal, and these are..."
Zhao Qin continued with the introductions, and everyone shook hands in turn. However, Lin Chuan seemed somewhat arrogant, disdainful of shaking hands with others. Instead, he looked at Wu Wan'er, who was also gazing back at him, giving the impression that they knew each other. Sure enough, Lin Chuan spoke up, "Wan'er, what are you doing here? Is Zhang Fusheng here too?"
Wu Wan'er shook her head and replied, "I came with Brother Wang. Zhang Fusheng is still in the capital..."
Shen Zhitao leaned closer to Wang Chao and whispered, "This Lin Chuan should be from the Lin family of the Seven Great Families. I just haven't seen him before and don't know him..."
Wang Chao nodded.
Then Lin Chuan said, "Haha, Brother Wang, Brother Wang, you sound so close! I just wonder what kind of ability Brother Wang has that allows Wan'er to follow you. That coward Zhang Fusheng actually let you go with him? Haha, I see that being the best in the world isn't much after all. Since the Zombie crisis broke out, I haven't seen him; I wonder how strong he is now."
Hearing this, Wang Chao couldn't help but frown. It seemed this guy had a grudge against Zhang Fusheng. He didn't know if it was because of Wu Wan'er, but Zhang Fusheng was his life-and-death friend; he wouldn't allow anyone to slander him. With that thought in mind, Wang Chao coldly replied, "That's just the level of a Platinum lower tier. If Zhang Fusheng dares to call himself the best in the world, he must be several streets ahead of you. You don't need him to deal with you; I can handle you myself."
"Haha." Upon hearing Wang Chao's words, Lin Chuan laughed as if he had heard the funniest thing in the world. He said, "Oh really? The soldiers below are brought by you? They are all like that. What’s that saying? A bear raises a bear; a soldier raises a soldier. You think your Golden Intermediate level can talk like that in front of me?"
"Then you don't believe it?" Wang Chao replied with a smile.
At that moment, Zhao Qin interjected, "Gentlemen, let's not argue. We are here to negotiate trade. Since neither of you is willing to back down, why not have a friendly match? There's no need to indulge in a moment of verbal sparring; it would only make us a laughingstock. A little sparring would be good; the square is spacious enough. Wang Chao, let Lin Chuan see what it means to have someone outside of oneself and heavens beyond heaven!"
Zhao Qin's words seemed sincere at first glance—especially the last sentence appeared to support Wang Chao—but in reality, it was a slap in his face. After all, a Golden Intermediate person challenging someone from the Platinum lower tier was almost impossible unless pigs flew. Wang Chao chose not to say much more; he understood that Zhao Qin was trying to use Lin Chuan to assert dominance over their group so that they could gain an upper hand during negotiations later on.
In this world, it has long become a place where the one with the strongest fist reigns supreme.
"The District Chief's proposal is not bad," Lin Chuan said. "I wonder if Brother Wang Chao dares to accept it?"
Wang Chao replied calmly, "What is there to be afraid of?"
