The Coastal Safety Zone was bustling with activity, and the consumption of resources was significant. From a distance, aside from the brightly lit square, the rest of the area was shrouded in darkness. Except for the Jing City Safe Zone, which was rich in coal and water resources and had power around the clock, other places were not able to provide such amenities. The Salt was loaded onto trucks, and everyone spent the night at the Coastal Safety Zone.
Wang Chao, however, greeted Zhao Qin and made his way to the seaside alone. He felt a bit ashamed; he had never seen the ocean before. Under the sparse moonlight and gentle evening breeze, the sea appeared deep and terrifying, an endless unknown lurking within its darkness. Up close, it looked blue, but it was nothing like what Wang Chao had imagined; it fell short in comparison.
"Watching the sea alone?" A voice called out. Wang Chao turned to see Shen Zhitao standing beside him. "The waves here seem a bit different; it feels like something is off."
Having never seen the ocean firsthand, Wang Chao couldn't discern any abnormalities. He simply replied, "Standing here makes me realize that the sea is quite different from what I imagined. I don't like it; its surface is blue, but beneath lies an impenetrable darkness filled with too many unknowns and mysteries. If it were a person, they would appear cheerful on the outside but be deeply troubled within."
"I've never heard of someone disliking their own kind," Shen Zhitao remarked as she looked at Wang Chao.
Wang Chao turned to face her as well. The gentle breeze played with Shen Zhitao's hair, brushing against Wang Chao's face in a ticklish manner. Just as he reached out to tuck her hair behind her ear, Shen Zhitao leaned against him, resting her head on his chest. He was taken aback but did not resist. The night was tranquil, with ripples dancing across the water—much like their inner feelings at that moment.
They spent a quiet night together. The next morning, after bidding farewell to Zhao Qin and Lin Chuan, the convoy hurried toward the Jing City Safe Zone. Contracts had already been finalized, so there would be no need for Wang Chao to personally handle matters on future visits. Unfortunately, aside from Salt, Coastal lacked many resources; trading for other goods was challenging. Although Jing City had iron ore, its reserves were limited, which posed a significant drawback for its industry.
It seemed time to expand westward or southward; however, there were too few people in Jing City. Wang Chao shook his head—rebuilding civilization amidst chaos would not be an easy task.
Without further ado, another day passed as the convoy returned to Jing City Safe Zone. The recent meals had been bland; finally, he could enjoy a flavorful dish! However, just as they arrived back in Jing City, Liu Jie rushed over to Wang Chao and said, "Commander, someone came looking for you earlier. He insists on seeing you and is at Platinum Level; we didn't dare act without your return."
"Platinum Level?" Wang Chao frowned. The only Platinum Level individual he knew was Zhuang Peng. Could it be Zhuang Peng looking for him? But what could Zhuang Peng want? Wang Chao dismissed his thoughts and said, "Let's go!"
They made their way to the military camp and spotted a figure surrounded by guards from a distance. The person kept insisting on finding Wang Chao. With a sigh, Wang Chao realized it could only be Zhuang Peng. He stepped forward and commanded, "Lower your weapons and continue patrolling." The guards complied and dispersed. As Wang Chao approached Zhuang Peng, he wondered what brought him there.
He asked, "Zhuang Peng, what brings you here? Is there something you need?"
At that moment, Zhuang Peng saw Wang Chao and hesitated for a long time before finally speaking. "I've come to ask for your help. If you agree to assist me, my life will be yours from now on!" Zhuang Peng, who held himself in high regard, would not have made such a request unless something extremely important had occurred. Realizing this, Wang Chao did not waste any words and asked, "What is it?"
"Shui Yun'er has been kidnapped!" Zhuang Peng replied.
"What? Someone was able to abduct Shui Yun'er from under your watch? Who is this person?" Wang Chao inquired.
"It's not just one person; there are several," Zhuang Peng explained. "After we parted ways with you, we traveled west for two days and encountered a group of five. Two of them are Platinum Level, and three are Golden Level. We were injured and had to protect the others, so we were no match for them. From what I overheard, their leader has a particular fondness for beautiful women—he loves them dearly..."
At this point, Zhuang Peng found it hard to continue. Wang Chao understood that whatever he was about to say would not be pleasant, and he couldn't help but admire the deep bond between Zhuang Peng and Shui Yun'er. "Do you know where this group is hiding and who they are?" Wang Chao asked.
Zhuang Peng replied, "They seem to have come from the east, likely searching for their people. I overheard them mention someone named Huangfu Yan; it sounded like they were saying that their people went missing in Jing City..."
Upon hearing this, Wang Chao couldn't help but feel a sense of fate at play. He never expected that five members of Huangfu Yan's Elite Eighteen would show up again. Even if Zhuang Peng hadn't come looking for him, he would have had to deal with these subordinates of Huangfu Yan! It seemed that Huangfu Yan had a rough idea of Wang Chao's location but wasn't entirely certain, which is why he only sent five people. After this incident, however, Huangfu Yan would likely pinpoint Wang Chao's whereabouts.
Shaking his head, Wang Chao asked Zhuang Peng, "Why did you come alone? Where are the others?"
Zhuang Peng fell silent for a moment before responding, "I was afraid that if you saw the situation we were in, you might want to eliminate us all, so I came alone..."
Wang Chao patted Zhuang Peng on the shoulder and said, "I told you back in the warehouse that our grievances are settled. I'll help you with this task. Afterward, arrange for the others to stay at the Safe Zone until this matter is resolved. Whether you choose to leave or stay afterward will be up to you; I won't make things difficult for you. Go handle this right away while I gather the others to discuss how we can approach this situation!"
Hearing this, Zhuang Peng immediately knelt on one knee and said, "Thank you! As long as you can help me rescue Shui Yun'er, I promise my life will be yours. I will serve you faithfully; though I am proud by nature, my word is my bond—like water spilled on the ground; once spoken, it cannot be taken back!"
Wang Chao nodded and said, "We will act separately; go handle it now! Liu Jie, accompany Zhuang Peng to ensure he isn't stopped by the Guard."
"Understood!"
