Wang Chao turned around, and the surroundings were still shrouded in darkness. Yet, it was clear that someone was indeed inside the house. So, was this person an ally or a trap set by Huangfu Yan? After a moment of thought, Wang Chao concluded that it couldn't be a trap. First, Huangfu Yan would never anticipate that someone would be lurking at this moment. Second, these locations were crucial and highly contested; they couldn't possibly be fake.
This meant that the person behind him had to be an ally, but who could it be?
Unable to figure it out, Wang Chao dared not linger any longer. He hurriedly opened the wooden door and escaped outside. The night remained pitch black, and as he slipped out through the previous window, he found no vehicle waiting for him to make a safe getaway. With the darkness enveloping him, Wang Chao moved forward, but the guards outside remained vigilant. How could he possibly escape?
Suddenly, the guards at the entrance dispersed, leaving a path open to the outside. Wang Chao felt puzzled but didn't hesitate for a moment. Seizing the opportunity while the guards were away, he dashed out into the night, disappearing into the shadows and leaving the core of the military camp behind. However, it seemed that this was somehow connected to the person inside the wooden house.
Emerging from the sewer, Wang Chao planned to rush back and regroup with his team. Soon, Huangfu Yan's advance team would set out. If the Imperial Army could lay an ambush before Huangfu Army arrived, then no matter how experienced Huangfu Ling was in commanding troops, he wouldn't stand a chance under those circumstances. Just as he emerged from the sewer, Wang Chao sensed someone standing beside him!
In an instant, the Panlong Blade from his Spatial Ring appeared in his hand. He swung it down but halted just above the person's neck.
"Li Yunqi?" Just as he was about to strike, Wang Chao recognized the individual before him. He turned the blade outward and stopped it sideways, slicing off a few strands of Li Yunqi's hair instead. Li Yunqi trembled in shock from this sudden attack until Wang Chao retracted his blade, allowing her to regain her composure.
"Here, take this!" Li Yunqi said as she handed Wang Chao something resembling a map. He took it and glanced over it quickly, realizing it was a layout of the drainage system beneath Ganzhou Safe Zone. Suddenly, everything clicked into place for Wang Chao; with this underground map, their forces could directly infiltrate without facing the defending troops or the Zombie Horde outside.
"Why are you giving me this?" Wang Chao asked.
"I saw you sneaking into the sewer earlier," Li Yunqi replied. "I suddenly remembered that Zhao Dong had taken some blueprints home as a worker; it's thanks to his background as an engineer that we have this now. But it's useless now... I know things are urgent; you don't need to worry about me—just leave quickly."
"Why give this to me?" Wang Chao pressed.
"I know you're Wang Chao!" Li Yunqi exclaimed. "That fool Zhao Dong couldn't see it; how could I not recognize you? After all, you saved me three years ago! Your ring—it's never changed!" Wang Chao hadn't expected that Li Yunqi could identify him just from that detail. No wonder she had been watching him closely before; at this point, there was no need for him to hide his true identity any longer.
"Back to your original form," Li Yunqi said, "It really is you, Wang Chao!"
Wang Chao replied, "The situation is urgent, and I don't have time to explain. Thank you!" Wang Chao spoke sincerely. Li Yunqi smiled and said, "I've heard that the Imperial Capital and Ganzhou are about to go to war. So be careful. As a woman, I don't care who wins or loses, but since you saved me, I must repay you!"
Nodding, Wang Chao didn't hesitate and immediately headed into the darkness. Shaking her head, she thought about how truly interconnected life was. She never expected that an action from three years ago would lead to this moment. Life was indeed full of drama, Wang Chao mused. Following the same path, she quickly ran to the meeting point they had agreed upon earlier.
Since she had arrived a day early, there was no one there yet. Fortunately, Wang Chao knew their location and wasted no time finding the members of the Thunder Strike Team hidden in the shadows. However, she discovered that three people were missing, including Wang Xiaochuan. Wang Chao asked, "What happened? Where are Wang Xiaochuan and the other two?"
One of the team members replied, "Wang Xiaochuan said they discovered some important intelligence and followed a squad of soldiers from Ganzhou. They told us to reach the designated location within the agreed time, and we would meet there." Wang Chao knew that Wang Xiaochuan was always thoughtful; he must have found something significant to act this way.
Wang Chao nodded and led the others toward the previously agreed-upon location.
On the way, they avoided several squads. When they arrived at the meeting point, it was just in time; everyone else had gathered except for Wang Xiaochuan and the other two. Wang Chao looked closely and saw that none of the hundred people present were injured. All had returned safely according to their agreement, yet she couldn't understand why Wang Xiaochuan hadn't come back.
Everyone had no choice but to continue waiting. During this time, Wang Chao recounted the specific intelligence she had gathered from the Ganzhou Safe Zone.
"Wang Xiaochuan! Who knows what he's up to!" Zhu Feng exclaimed. "This intelligence is crucial; every minute delayed increases our danger."
Just as Wang Chao was about to respond, a blood-soaked member of the Assault Team came running from a distance. Seeing this, Wang Chao rushed forward to support him. The man looked gravely injured and on the verge of death as he stammered out, "Wang Xiaochuan... captured by Ganzhou's main forces... thousands of them... Lu Li... killed..."
As he spoke, blood poured from his mouth; it was clear he was nearing his end.
"Over there... in that direction..." he pointed weakly before collapsing lifelessly. It turned out that Wang Xiaochuan and his group had been captured by Huangfu Yan's forces. But who commanded this thousands-strong army? Had troops already been dispatched while she was eavesdropping on Huangfu Yan's conversation?
Huangfu Yan, with both open and hidden tactics, had employed countless schemes.
"First, let's bury this brother!" Wang Chao said.
