The death of Huangfu Ling left Wang Chao in a state of uncertainty, unsure whether to feel joy or sorrow. From the moment he joined the Bioterrorism Security Department in the small town, Wang Chao had recognized Huangfu Ling's ambition. Yet, just three years later, when it was finally Huangfu Ling's turn to shine, he encountered Wang Chao. To be fair, if Wang Chao hadn't happened to arrive at Wuping Mountain and if Huangfu Ling hadn't launched an attack today, it was uncertain whether he could have defeated Huangfu Ling. 0

Truth be told, Wang Chao was completely inexperienced in large-scale military operations; he was suited for special operations involving one or two hundred people. It could only be said that Huangfu Ling lost to Wang Chao purely by fate. Perhaps even three years ago, when Huangfu Ling had not yet drawn the dagger that hung over Wang Chao's neck, the outcome had already been determined. 0

However, one thing was beyond doubt: in just three short years, Wang Chao transformed from someone who had never practiced martial arts or handled a gun into a formidable leader with the rank of Colonel and head of the Jing City Safe Zone. Such achievements could not simply be attributed to luck; extraordinary abilities were required to accomplish this. 0

As they returned to the battlefield, the fight was nearing its end. The Huangfu Army had already been routed and was now merely struggling like trapped beasts, destined to be completely annihilated within moments. Wang Chao declared, "Huangfu Ling is dead. I advise you all to surrender and lay down your weapons! Anyone who puts down their gun will be spared; otherwise, there will be no mercy!" Upon hearing Wang Chao's words, the soldiers hesitated for a moment but seeing no sign of Huangfu Ling, they reluctantly began to lower their weapons. 0

The gunfire gradually ceased; the battle was over. 0

While clearing the battlefield, it became apparent that around four hundred soldiers from the Huangfu Army had been killed in the chaos of combat, with countless others injured. On Wang Chao's side, aside from some casualties among Director Di's team, only five out of his thousand men had died, while about ten others sustained minor injuries that seemed inconsequential. 0

Wang Chao summoned an officer and said to him, "Now that the Huangfu Army has collapsed and Huangfu Ling is dead, the remaining forces are no longer a threat. After you regroup your troops, take these prisoners back to the capital. Are there any issues with logistics? If so, I will return to communicate with the capital." 0

The officer saluted Wang Chao with an exceptionally precise military gesture and replied, "Commander Wang, if it weren't for your timely intervention, our remaining brothers would not have survived. I Mao Li represent Director Di and the 352nd Regiment in saluting you! Rest assured, Commander; there are no problems. I guarantee we will complete this mission!" Wang Chao nodded and patted Mao Li on the shoulder before turning to leave. 0

After regrouping, it was already afternoon. Mao Li led the surviving soldiers of the 352nd Regiment as they escorted the remnants of the Huangfu Army toward the capital. Watching them depart, Wang Chao shook his head helplessly; Huangfu Ling's forces had suffered a complete defeat—there was no further fall possible. Yet Wang Chao felt no excitement; aside from his conflicted feelings about Huangfu Ling's death, he was more concerned about Huangfu Yan's situation. 0

Having been away for over a week now, by this time Huangfu Yan should have reached the capital. However, this was beyond Wang Chao's control; there were still Zhang Fusheng's troops and Zhao Lao stationed in the capital. It seemed unlikely that Huangfu Yan would easily breach its defenses. 0

"Where do we go next?" asked Wang Xiaochuan. 0

Wang Chao pondered briefly before responding, "Let's check on conditions in the other two locations. If we can gather intelligence on Huangfu Yan's movements, that would be ideal. If not, we can at least learn about ongoing operations. We shouldn't delay any longer; let's set off immediately!" 0

It had been over a week since they set out, and upon arriving at the second location, Wang Chao found no one in sight. It seemed that the war here had long since ended. He frowned, noticing the remnants of battle—shell casings, bullet marks, and corpses scattered about—but not a single living soul remained to indicate which side had emerged victorious. 0

If he were to head to the third location now, it would take another two weeks. It had already been more than two weeks since Wang Chao left the capital, and he realized he must return. With that thought in mind, he immediately ordered his troops to make haste back to the capital. 0

After several more days of travel, the advance party returned. Wang Chao knew they must have made some significant discovery. 0

“Captain! We’ve found a defeated Imperial Army unit up ahead!” the Squad Leader reported to Wang Chao. 0

“What?” Wang Chao was taken aback and then asked, “The Imperial Army has been defeated?” 0

“Indeed!” the Squad Leader confirmed. 0

“Let’s move out immediately!” Wang Chao commanded. 0

The main force rushed forward at full speed. After several hours of running, they finally reached what was left of the defeated troops. The soldiers had stopped moving, sitting on the ground in disbelief. Fortunately, Wang Chao's advance team had managed to calm their emotions. Upon seeing Wang Chao approach, they remained unresponsive. He stepped forward and asked, “Who did you fight against? Was it Huangfu Nan?” 0

Hearing someone speak, they lifted their heads and recognized Wang Chao. In the capital, he was a well-known figure—perhaps even more famous than Zhang Fusheng—especially after the public trial that everyone attended. Who could have imagined that the man once put on trial by Huangfu Yan would become a defender of the capital while Huangfu Yan became its enemy? It was truly ironic. 0

“Our opponent was indeed Huangfu Nan!” one of them replied. “And his leadership was quite poor. We had prior knowledge of their movements and managed to strike hard against Huangfu Nan. However, midway through the battle, a mysterious force suddenly appeared on the battlefield and surrounded us without warning.” 0

The soldier shook his head and continued, “Within just a few hours, we were utterly defeated. We had no choice but to break through from our weakest flank. But when we attempted to escape, we found ourselves ambushed again. We fought desperately to break free, and in the end, only we few made it here; everyone else perished in the breakout.” 0

“A mysterious force!” Wang Chao murmured to himself. “Do you know where that mysterious force went?” 0

Everyone shook their heads, and then the man said, "During the chaos at that time, we could hardly tell east from west; it was sheer luck that we managed to survive. As for the whereabouts of that mysterious troop, we truly have no idea." 0

As a playboy, Huangfu Nan couldn't possibly be unaware of this, but why did Huangfu Yan still let Huangfu Nan and Huangfu Cheng lead over six thousand soldiers? Suddenly, Wang Chao's heart sank; these people were originally just cannon fodder thrown out by Huangfu Yan! 0
