The battle had momentarily subsided, and so far, it could be said that Wang Chao had achieved a resounding victory. In the past half hour, Wang Chao had successfully slain three of the enemy's elite, while Zhang Fusheng had taken down one as well. The enemy, however, had only managed to incapacitate one of Zhang Fusheng's arms. All the fallen were Golden Level fighters, and among the remaining four elites, their strength was formidable.
Wang Chao's current strength was merely at the Platinum Tier, yet one of the opponents had already broken through to Diamond level. Among the others, two were at Platinum Mid-Tier, and one was at lower Platinum level. However, Wang Chao's abilities could not simply be gauged by the mutated virus; after all, he had defeated the Heart of Slaughter and had been modified by Gao Rui.
In terms of genetic alteration abilities, Wang Chao was truly unique in this world.
"You eight were no match for us earlier, and now there are only four of you left!" Wang Chao spoke quickly but clearly. "Why die for Huangfu Yan? People are dying everywhere due to the Zombie crisis, yet Huangfu Yan is indifferent and has initiated this war against the capital. Even if Huangfu Yan conquers the capital and becomes Chairperson or Emperor, can he truly find peace in his heart?"
"Haha!" The Diamond-level fighter laughed. "To the victor go the spoils; there's no need to waste time here. We've followed the general for at least ten years; you think your few words can sway us? Our wish is to elevate the general to the highest throne. In the Twenty-Second Century, this may seem like a dream, but with the outbreak of the Zombie crisis, anything is possible! And you will watch as the general ascends to power!"
After a pause, he continued, "Why not join us and serve the general? In time, you could be granted a fiefdom; wouldn't that be delightful?"
Wang Chao chuckled and replied, "History is called history because it consists of past events. Trying to force people into submission will only lead to self-destruction!" As he spoke these words, he suddenly recalled Commander Yu from Jing City Safe Zone—a man who treated people as slaves—and his tragic end was nothing short of horrific. Was Huangfu Yan aiming to become a second Commander Yu?
"Do you hear that gunfire? Each shot celebrates the general's path to power!" The man continued.
"Go!" Wang Chao realized that this person was trying to persuade Zhang Fusheng and himself to surrender while also stalling for time. Although he was unsure about the current situation in the capital, given Huangfu Yan's combat capabilities and strategies, no one in the capital could rival him except for Wang Chao and Zhang Fusheng.
Hearing Wang Chao's words, Zhang Fusheng understood the urgency of their situation and wasted no more time; he charged forward with Wang Chao closely behind him. The four opponents also sprang into action, each unleashing their strongest attacks. Everyone clearly recognized one thing: those who walked different paths could not collaborate; to achieve their goals, they had to eliminate each other!
The four opponents had clear roles: a Diamond-level fighter along with a Platinum Mid-Tier fighter faced Zhang Fusheng while two Platinum Level fighters targeted Wang Chao. What they did not realize was that Wang Chao was far stronger than they imagined; otherwise, he would not have been able to contend with Zhang Fusheng at Platinum Tier level during his earlier demonic transformation while only at Silver level.
Wang Chao looked at the two before him; their weapons appeared somewhat peculiar—one wielded a Sleeve Blade while the other used a Meteor Hammer. If it weren't for the tense atmosphere, Wang Chao would have laughed because these two resembled street performers more than fighters. The Meteor Hammer flew directly toward him, but Wang Chao easily dodged it.
A few steps ahead, Wang Chao approached the two men, swinging his Panlong Blade, but every strike was blocked by the man's Sleeve Blade. After several exchanges, Wang Chao had already formed a conclusion in his mind; the hardness of the Sleeve Blade was not very strong. With this thought, he activated his Breathing Technique, concentrating all his strength into one point. He swung down his blade while the man continued to defend.
However, an unexpected situation arose with that block. The man's Sleeve Blade, along with his arm, was severed by Wang Chao's strike. At that moment, the Meteor Hammer swung back around. Wang Chao did not sever the chain of the Meteor Hammer; instead, he used its momentum to wrap it around his Panlong Blade and with a swift motion, sent the iron hammer crashing toward the man who had just lost his arm.
Seeing this, the man had no choice but to use his other arm to block. This was precisely the effect Wang Chao wanted. He charged forward, leaving the man with only two choices: either evade Wang Chao's Panlong Blade or dodge the iron hammer. However, being struck by either would lead to certain death. In an instant, the man chose to trust his teammate and attempted to block Wang Chao's Panlong Blade.
The companion wielding the Meteor Hammer desperately tried to pull it back, but Wang Chao's speed and power were too overwhelming. Despite gripping the iron handle with both hands, he struggled to control it. Suddenly, Wang Chao spun around; his target was not the man with the severed arm but rather the one using the Meteor Hammer. No one expected that Wang Chao's initial target had always been the wielder of the Meteor Hammer!
With a single stroke, that man staggered back repeatedly, unable to focus on retrieving the Meteor Hammer. But Wang Chao was already ahead of him; he thrust his blade directly into the man's heart and withdrew it swiftly. The man still couldn't believe what he saw as at that moment, the uncontrollable iron hammer crashed down onto the head of the man who had lost his arm, causing his skull to explode like a watermelon!
Neither of them survived.
Looking further away, Zhang Fusheng bore numerous wounds while a Platinum Level opponent lay on the ground, appearing to be breathing heavily. Wang Chao ignored this person and silently approached from behind another individual who was locked in combat with Zhang Fusheng. As Wang Chao swung down his Panlong Blade, that person sensed something amiss; being a Diamond Level fighter, he skillfully dodged Zhang Fusheng's attack and positioned a dagger against his shoulder to block Wang Chao's Panlong Blade.
Yet blood still flowed from him as he stared in disbelief at the large hole in his abdomen where Wang Chao's Bone Knife had emerged.
"Your movements are indeed impressive and your reflexes quick," Wang Chao remarked. "But you're too confident; that's arrogance, and it's not a good habit!" With that, he pulled out the Bone Knife and did not forget to ensure that the fallen man was completely dead—eradicating any potential threat. Once he determined that someone was beyond saving, Wang Chao would not let a tiger return to its mountain lair and create trouble for himself.
"Let's hurry back to the Imperial Capital!" Wang Chao said.
