Without further ado, Wang Chao never expected that just after returning to the Jing City Safe Zone, he would have to head to Coastal. He thought to himself that it had been almost half a year since he had any intimate relationships. Indeed, with great power comes great responsibility. After a reluctant farewell to Yang Mengying and Yiyi, Wang Chao decided to leave Da Qiang behind in case of any emergencies at the Safe Zone. He took Shen Zhitao, Zhuang Peng, and Little Grudge with him to Coastal for a look.
An hour later, the guard team downstairs had already assembled, and the Military Jeep was parked nearby. Wang Xiaochuan's efficiency was impressive. Seeing this, Wang Chao felt no need to say much to the troops. Since taking command of this unit over three months ago, the Thunder Strike Team had been by his side, fighting against zombies and monsters, and their cohesion had reached a high level, evident from the relationship between Wang Xiaochuan and Wang Chao.
"Get in the vehicle, we're heading to Coastal. Let's take the highway and aim to arrive within a day!" As soon as Wang Chao finished speaking, everyone boarded the vehicles. The modified truck led the convoy, with soldiers sitting in its rear compartment. Wang Chao, Shen Zhitao, and Little Grudge were in the Military Jeep driven by Wang Xiaochuan. The convoy sped towards Coastal, having already cleared a path beforehand.
By the time they returned to Jing City, night was falling. They drove straight from darkness into daylight; the autumn morning breeze felt somewhat chilly. They would reach Coastal in less than an hour. Looking at the sandy ground on both sides of the road, Wang Chao remarked to Shen Zhitao and Little Grudge, "Why is there so much sand on this road? Is there a sandstorm?"
Shen Zhitao shook her head and replied, "The chances of a sandstorm in Coastal are lower than winning the lottery. I think this mud and sand have been washed over from ahead. Plus, look at those trees along the road; they all seem to be leaning in one direction. It looks like they might have encountered a tsunami!" This was Wang Chao's first time seeing the sea at Coastal, and back then, Shen Zhitao had leaned against him...
Seeing Wang Chao's expression brought back memories for Shen Zhitao; her face flushed as she fell into a brief silence. After driving for a while longer, she spoke again with a serious expression, "Look at those buildings outside!"
At this moment, Wang Chao also noticed something amiss. Large rocks and broken trees blocked many of the buildings ahead; some walls had been smashed open by these obstacles while others had completely collapsed into dangerous ruins. As they drove deeper into Coastal, the signs of destruction from the tsunami became even more apparent.
The vehicles could no longer proceed because large boulders and uprooted trees lay across the road, making it impassable. They hadn't even reached the Safe Zone yet; the Coastal Safety Zone was closer to the ocean where conditions would surely be worse. Along the way, Wang Chao spotted numerous corpses—this was not a Safe Zone but rather victims of zombies.
"Get out and walk; we need to clear these rocks and fallen trees from the road. We can't abandon this route; we still need to mine salt here!" As he spoke, everyone jumped down from the truck—half began clearing the road while the other half stood guard. However, there were too many obstacles for them to clear quickly.
After considering it for a moment, Wang Chao said, "Stop! It looks like this won't be resolved anytime soon. We don't know what situation awaits us at Coastal Safety Zone; let's speed up towards Safe Zone! Follow me!" With that, Wang Chao took off running toward Safe Zone. The further they went, the more destruction they encountered; many tall buildings had collapsed and there were large puddles everywhere.
"Do you remember when I told you that something was off about the sea at Seaside City?" Shen Zhitao asked.
Wang Chao suddenly recalled that night when Shen Zhitao mentioned something unusual about Coastal's sea but he hadn't paid much attention then. It seemed she had noticed something strange about Coastal over six months ago. An hour later, they finally arrived at the gates of Coastal Safety Zone. What they saw left them stunned: a series of high walls had collapsed—this tsunami truly packed a powerful punch!
The group entered the Coastal Safety Zone through the crumbling high walls. After walking for a short while, Wang Chao felt an overwhelming sense of strangeness around him; there was not a single sound. Where had the hundreds of thousands of survivors in the Coastal Safety Zone gone? Why was it so eerily silent? Looking down, he noticed there were no bodies either, which made his heart skip a beat.
The others also sensed the oddity of the place. Shen Zhitao spoke up, "It's too quiet here, frighteningly quiet."
Wang Chao nodded and said, "Stay alert and investigate further!"
The guard team immediately formed a combat formation and moved forward. Apart from the sounds of stones and fallen branches crunching underfoot, there was nothing else. They soon reached the large square they had been to before. Wang Chao remembered that it was here he had defeated Lin Chuan with a single punch, extinguishing his Breeze. Yet now, the once bustling square was silent.
"You all go check that building," Wang Chao instructed quietly. "You head over there, and you few go that way!"
"Understood!" the group responded.
Wang Chao led Wang Xiaochuan and others to search the massive square. The center of the square was hollowed out, revealing a fountain that had been dry during their last visit. However, after the tsunami, Wang Chao observed that this hollow area was now completely filled with seawater. Moving further in, they encountered a large pond that he had seen before; it was about four to five meters deep, several meters wide, and over ten meters long.
At this moment, the pond was also filled with seawater, evidently filled during the tsunami.
Wang Chao crouched by the edge of the pond, gazing at the water. After a while, he noticed something unusual: ripples began to form on the surface, spreading out in circles. Looking around, he saw nothing had fallen into the pond; if it wasn't caused by an external force, then something must be in the water.
Just then, he heard Zhu Feng's voice calling from behind him: "Captain! They're all inside! They say there's a monster in the pond and they're afraid to make any noise; otherwise, it will come out!"
Seeing Wang Chao right by the pond where the monster appeared made Zhu Feng rush to warn him.
At that moment, Wang Chao noticed that the ripples in the pond were growing larger!
