In the midst of chaos, Wang Chao could no longer discern the situation with the Flowerhorn. However, he could feel that the Flowerhorn had released its grip on his mouth. At that moment, he was overwhelmed by a surge of river water, and all he felt was a burning sensation in his lungs. He struggled to swim upward when suddenly a hand grasped him.
Wang Chao was already feeling dizzy. During the fight with the Flowerhorn, he had to contend not only with the creature but also with the encroaching water. Just maintaining consciousness was an achievement in itself. Through his blurred vision, he recognized that the person pulling him was none other than Shen Zhitao. It turned out she had not ventured far and had been observing the commotion from the surface.
She had seen a sudden eruption of blood where Wang Chao had been, staining the river red, prompting her to rush over. As she arrived, she noticed Wang Chao struggling to swim upward, his body weak and clearly drowning. Shen Zhitao quickly grabbed his arm and pulled him away from danger. After an hour of swimming, she finally brought Wang Chao to the shore.
As soon as they reached land, Wang Chao fainted.
"There's someone over there!" A young man in his twenties exclaimed from not far off on the shore.
The group turned their attention and indeed spotted Shen Zhitao and the unconscious Wang Chao. There were about ten people in this group, led by a sturdy man in his thirties, while the others appeared relatively young, resembling an Assault Team. Shen Zhitao noticed them from a distance and was currently performing CPR and artificial respiration on Wang Chao.
Seeing so many people approach made her face flush suddenly, but she noticed that Wang Chao seemed to be stirring awake; although his eyes were still closed, it looked like he might regain consciousness at any moment.
In an instant, the group rushed over. Shen Zhitao observed that their strength was at Golden Level, with their leader being at lower Platinum level—slightly weaker than her own abilities. Upon seeing Shen Zhitao holding Wang Chao, the leader asked, "What happened? Is he alright?"
Not sensing any malice from him, Shen Zhitao was about to respond when Wang Chao's voice emerged: "I'm fine; I just wanted to catch some fish in the river earlier. But it seems there’s some kind of monster stirring up the waters that pulled me under. If it weren't for my wife saving me, I might have ended up as fish food." His words made sense, but the last part caused Shen Zhitao to blush again.
The leader replied, "Oh, as long as you're okay. May I ask where you two are from and where you're headed? By the way, I'm Iron Joy; what are your names?"
Wang Chao nodded and said, "I'm Wang Chao, and this is Shen Zhitao. We are wanderers; we were previously on the opposite bank of the river and only recently came to this side. Unfortunately, while fishing from our boat, we were swept across by a wave into the water. We saw a large monster while on board and didn't dare return. Luckily I still have some strength left; otherwise, I would have met my end in a fish's belly."
Iron Joy listened and noted that Wang Chao's strength was at Golden Upper level; he didn't doubt him but remarked, "You two are quite fortunate. Our Safe Zone's leader has been trying to send someone to establish contact with the north. However, there are many monsters in these waters; those who attempt to cross by boat often face attacks from underwater creatures—usually resulting in shipwrecks and fatalities."
Sighing, Iron Joy continued, "It's a pity that the bridges over the river collapsed during the Zombie crisis due to the chaotic traffic. Otherwise, we could have made it to the north. Many of our brothers who were sent out perished in the waters. But enough of that; since you have nowhere to go, why not come to the Safe Zone? Our Zhonghu Safety Zone isn't far from here. I see your strength is impressive; you could join our Royal Guard."
Wang Chao nodded and replied, "If that's the case, then it's fine."
With that, they followed Iron Joy as they walked further away. Shen Zhitao quietly asked Wang Chao, "Aren't we here to find Wang Xiaochuan? If we follow them back to the Safe Zone, who knows when we'll find him. Are you planning to waste a few years in the south?"
After listening to Shen Zhitao's words, Wang Chao pondered for a moment before saying, "With those large Safe Zones in the north and our army continuously exploring new territories, it won't be long before we connect the north into one piece. The other Safe Zones will be found one by one as well. Plus, with our legitimacy, there's really nothing to worry about in the north."
"Even if there are issues, with Tang Fengzhuang Peng and their strength, they won't need us," Wang Chao said. "We came to the south not only to search for Wang Xiaochuan but also to conquer this region. Once we do that, we'll have a unified world. In these chaotic times, one must make their mark. I intend to claim my share from Zhang Fusheng!"
Shen Zhitao sighed, knowing that Wang Chao was still troubled by matters concerning Zhang Fusheng and chose not to say more. Instead, he stayed close to Wang Chao and continued walking with Iron Joy and his group.
Wang Chao quickened his pace and approached Iron Joy, asking, "What’s the situation like in the south now? How is our Safe Zone holding up?"
Iron Joy didn’t find Wang Chao bothersome; instead, he patiently replied, "Our Zhonghu Safety Zone is the largest Safe Zone in the entire south, with a population of around two hundred thousand." Wang Chao nodded; it seemed that conditions in the south were similar to those in the north. Iron Joy continued, "Our leader is a powerful woman who is also quite beautiful."
Upon hearing this, Wang Chao was taken aback. Even in the north, there had never been a Safe Zone controlled by a woman. Although he had entrusted management of the imperial capital to Shen Zhiying and Wu Wan'er, the military and residents still regarded Wang Chao as their leader. Could this woman be the one who captured Wang Xiaochuan? This thought suddenly crossed Wang Chao's mind.
"What level of strength does this leader possess?" Wang Chao asked.
Iron Joy sighed and said, "She has reached Platinum Tier level and seems poised to break through to Diamond level at any moment. Truly a legendary woman."
At this point in the conversation, Wang Chao felt a surge of curiosity about this Female Leader.
