Iron Joy stared at Li Kai, unable to find his voice. He never expected that after half a year of loyalty, Li Kai would betray him and stand by someone he had only known for a day. Despite the guilt lingering in his heart, Iron Joy could not tolerate this situation. "Li Kai," he said, "over the past six months, have you truly reflected on how I've treated you? And now, you choose to betray me?"
Li Kai opened his mouth to respond, but Wang Chao waved his hand, signaling Li Kai not to explain. Then Wang Chao said, "This isn't the time for talking. The Zombies outside are still pouring in. They won't hold out much longer. We need to move the supplies quickly. We can discuss everything once we return to the Safe Zone!" With that, Wang Chao drew his curved blade and charged at the Zombies that continued to surge inside.
On the way back to the Safe Zone, although the two groups traveled together, no one spoke a word; the atmosphere was heavy with tension. It wasn't until they reached the Safe Zone that they parted ways. Li Kai turned to Wang Chao and said, "Brother Wang, establishing an armed squad isn't something that can be done casually. We need to get approval from the leader first; only then can we register with the military and form a proper team!"
Although Wang Chao didn't really want to form a team—he preferred working alone—he was genuinely curious about what the Female Leader of Zhonghu Safety Zone looked like. Without this excuse, he wouldn't have had a good reason to meet her. With that thought in mind, Wang Chao nodded in agreement.
Seeing Wang Chao's consent made Li Kai particularly happy. "Brother Wang, follow me. You guys head back first," he said to his companions. Wang Chao felt helpless; he had just met Iron Joy and now half of the squad he had painstakingly assembled was being taken away.
As they walked towards where the Female Leader handled her affairs, Wang Chao's mind wandered while following Li Kai until they arrived at a building entrance. It was clear even without asking that this place was different; four guards stood at the door, all at Golden Level. What surprised Wang Chao even more was that all four were women.
"Does this Female Leader have something against men?" Wang Chao remarked to Li Kai beside him. "Her so-called Royal Guard is entirely composed of women!" Li Kai hurriedly replied, "Don't say that! You're actually right; this Female Leader doesn't like men very much. But you can't say that in front of her; otherwise, you'd be eliminated on the spot..."
As they conversed, they reached the building's entrance where one of the Female Guards stopped them and asked, "What are you here for?"
"We're here to seek permission from the leader to form a squad," Li Kai replied. "This is our captain, Wang Chao."
Wang Chao smiled and nodded at the Female Guard.
However, the Female Guard seemed unimpressed; she looked at Wang Chao with disdain and said mockingly, "So this Captain Wang Chao is only at Golden Upper level? That's on par with me. I suggest you come back when you've broken through to Platinum Level; our leader is quite busy!" Her contempt was evident in her tone. Just as Li Kai was about to speak up, Wang Chao had already moved.
In an instant, Wang Chao dashed forward. The Female Guard noticed his movement and quickly swung her blade at him, but she was no match for him. At that moment, everyone around finally understood what was happening: Wang Chao was now extremely close to the Female Guard; he held her blade's handle with his left hand, preventing her from swinging it while his right hand pressed against her cheek.
"Now you can see that my strength is a bit stronger than yours!" Wang Chao said with a smile.
The Female Guard's face flushed red, and just as she was about to move her other hand, Wang Chao had already stepped a few meters away from her. "Can we go in now?"
The Female Guard snorted coldly but stepped aside from the doorway. Wang Chao smiled as he walked in, while Li Kai looked on in astonishment. The captain truly lived up to his title! Upon entering the inner hall, they found over a dozen women standing guard inside. One of them asked about their purpose and then led them upstairs. As they reached the second floor, Wang Chao noticed that the area had been completely opened up. It seemed that this house was where the Female Leader resided.
He knocked on the door, and a voice came from inside, "Come in!" Compared to the other women, this voice was deeper and had a more neutral tone. The guard led Wang Chao and Li Kai into the room. Wang Chao looked around; the room was spacious, with another door on the side that appeared to lead to an inner chamber. Behind a large office desk sat a woman with short, neat hair. She wore no makeup but was strikingly beautiful, dressed similarly to the Assault Team, exuding a sense of androgynous beauty.
"What brings you here?" the woman asked Wang Chao and Li Kai slowly.
Li Kai replied, "Leader, this is my captain. He wants to form a Squad and is here to seek your approval."
The Female Leader nodded slowly and said, "I assume you are aware of the rules; only those who have reached Platinum Level or above are qualified to form a Squad." Her tone was calm and measured, yet there was an unspoken authority behind it. Wang Chao was not particularly fazed by this minor intimidation, but Li Kai hurriedly interjected, "Leader, please let me explain."
Swallowing hard, Li Kai continued, "Although our captain's strength is at Golden Upper level, when it comes to combat, even those at lower Platinum levels are no match for him. The guard at your door can attest to this; otherwise, she wouldn't have let us in!"
Upon hearing Li Kai's words, the Female Leader regarded Wang Chao with interest. Li Kai's reasoning made sense. Just looking at Wang Chao's imposing demeanor and extraordinary presence gave off an indescribable aura. He also seemed to be observing her with amusement; based solely on that impression, it was clear that Wang Chao's abilities exceeded Golden Upper level—he must have learned some ancient martial arts.
"You must be new here," the Female Leader said to Wang Chao. "I don't recall seeing you before."
"That's right; I just arrived yesterday," Wang Chao nodded.
At that moment, there was a loud knocking at the door, followed by a woman's voice shouting from outside, "Leader! It's bad news! The Black-Clad Society has arrived!"
