When everyone returned to the Zhonghu Safety Zone, the sky had already darkened. After four years without the high-pollution chemical gases and numerous energy industries, the sky had become clearer. Looking up, the stars were hiding behind slowly drifting clouds, flickering in and out of view. Wang Chao stood alone on the rooftop, gazing at the bright moon and twinkling stars, feeling an immense calmness within.
As he looked at the extinguished lights in the Zhonghu Safety Zone, Wang Chao pondered. It had been four years since the outbreak of the Zombie crisis. From the initial panic and confusion to the subsequent confrontation with Zombies, and now to the establishment and strengthening of various Safe Zones, humanity had once again proven itself to be the ruler of this planet.
Initially, being bitten meant a 100% chance of turning into a Zombie. Now, with mutations and evolution, most people had adapted to the changes brought by the Zombie Virus within their bodies. Only a few lacked this ability. Survival of the fittest—those who had survived these four years were mostly those with antibodies. Wang Chao was uncertain about his future path and where it would lead him, but for the sake of those he loved and who loved him, he knew he could not afford to stop for even a moment.
Before he realized it, Wang Chao had laid down on the rooftop. In his childhood orphanage, he loved lying on the roof to watch the stars. Finally, he spoke up: "Since you're here, why hide? The stars are beautiful; would you like to come see them?" He didn’t turn around but spoke to the empty air. Just as his words faded, he heard a sound behind him.
Someone silently approached Wang Chao's side and looked down at him. He gazed back at her for a full three minutes before she finally spoke in a soft yet resentful tone: "Your strength has indeed improved significantly; now even I cannot be your opponent!" Her voice was gentle yet clear.
This person could only be Aivina, Aikun'er's mother.
"You've known about this for a long time, haven't you? Why pretend as if it's new to you?" Wang Chao replied with a smile. "A day ago, when we just escaped from the black market, you were always by Aikun'er's side. When we encountered that incident in the small cabin, I sensed your presence; you could say that you revealed yourself!"
Aivina crouched down, still looking at Wang Chao, and asked, "I revealed myself?"
Wang Chao nodded and explained, "When those brutes were assaulting that woman, I felt a strong killing intent from afar. Yuan Min and her group couldn't sense it, but I clearly felt that killing intent—it was exactly like when you tried to take my ring before. So I knew you were nearby."
"So you used this incident to deliberately go to Anfei Safe Zone to provoke conflict between Anfei Safe Zone and The Black-Clad Society?" Aivina said. "What a heavy scheme! When you arrived at Anfei Safe Zone, I suspected something was off too. But with Aikun'er there, even if I saw through your plot, I still had to let The Black-Clad Society charge in!"
"Exactly!" At that moment, Wang Chao closed his eyes and replied simply.
Then there was a long silence. The early winter cold wind blew through, but with Wang Chao's physical condition, he hardly felt cold anymore. Eventually, he broke the awkward silence: "When I first arrived here, I heard that The Black-Clad Society was ruthless and merciless. Yet in front of that small cabin, your intense killing intent clearly showed your anger. But there are also human trafficking activities in the black market; why didn’t you put a stop to it?"
As soon as the question left his lips, Wang Chao felt a twinge of regret. Aivina pondered for a moment before responding, "There are many things in this world that anger me, but I know that within my jurisdiction, I can make these issues appear less heinous. However, beyond my control, when faced with such matters, it mostly reflects my own sense of helplessness."
Wang Chao mulled over her words, finding more truth in them the more he thought about it. He, Huangfu Yan, and even Aivina, who was squatting on the ground, were all essentially the same kind of people. They were indeed selfish, concerned about their image, and reluctant to admit their mistakes. Yet all of this was merely an attempt to allow themselves and those they cared about to roam freely in this world, where even with all their flaws, no one dared to make them change.
"So, I want to unify the South and make the entire Southern region the domain of my Ai Family. Then, I will unify all of Huaxia!" Aivina declared, her tone filled with determination and innate authority. "I will eradicate all Zombies in Huaxia and become the Queen of Huaxia!"
Upon hearing this, something within Wang Chao was suddenly stirred. He had never voiced it before. Still keeping his eyes closed, he replied, "It's a pity that you haven't completed your first step while I've already moved on to the second. But competition and conflict between people make things interesting. A great person once said that battling against heaven is endlessly enjoyable, battling against earth is endlessly enjoyable, and battling against people is endlessly enjoyable..."
"I've never understood," Aivina said. "I always thought that my ultimate rival would be Zhang Fusheng. This has been hard for me to accept because our relationship with the Zhang Family is so close that if we were to strike at each other, it wouldn't be lethal. There have been several times when I wickedly thought that if Huangfu Yan unified the North instead, I would be very pleased."
With a sigh, Aivina continued, "But I never expected it would be you—a kid whose name I hadn't even heard before. Zhang Fusheng went missing, and Huangfu Yan died. Do you know? That day in the black market when you told me these things, I couldn't believe it; I thought it was just a dream from which I'd wake up."
Wang Chao replied, "There are many unimaginable things in this world. Just like a hundred years ago when Zhang Lao was twenty—who had ever heard of that name? Yet within just a few years, the name Zhang Yunhao spread throughout Huaxia. At that time, Zhang Lao was barely in his twenties. And here I am now at twenty-six; by that logic, Wang Chao could also become a name known by many."
"But there is only one Zhang Yunhao in this world!" Aivina asserted firmly.
Wang Chao nodded heavily in agreement. "There is only one Zhang Yunhao in this world, but there is also only one Wang Chao! Don't you think so?"
