Early the next morning, Li Kai and the others were already waiting downstairs for Wang Chao. When they saw him come down, Li Kai hurriedly stepped forward and said, "Brother Wang, I saw you return yesterday but didn’t get a chance to talk. Today we had no choice but to wait for you here. Since we came back from the supermarket last time, we haven't done anything at all. If we keep idling like this, we might just end up going stir-crazy!"
Wang Chao frowned slightly, realizing that he had completely forgotten about these people. When they were under Iron Joy's command, they had to go out every day to scavenge for food. However, since following Wang Chao, they had done nothing for three days and their rations were nearly depleted. If they didn’t take action soon, even eating would become a problem in the Safe Zone, which never tolerated idlers.
"Well, I do have a task for you!" Wang Chao said with a smile. "You guys will monitor the situation at Anfei Safe Zone. When you leave, go directly to the chief's aide and ask for gold, saying I sent you. I'll greet them shortly! So prepare yourselves and act as soon as you're ready; no need to report back!"
In truth, Wang Chao didn’t expect much from them, but he couldn’t just ignore them either. Thus, he assigned them this seemingly pointless task. The mission to monitor Anfei Safe Zone had already been arranged by Yuan Min when he returned last night.
"Captain, let me follow you!" Li Kai suddenly said.
Wang Chao looked at Li Kai in confusion and thought for a moment.
"Brother Wang, please let me follow you! I want to learn a few moves from you!" Li Kai said sincerely. It seemed that if Wang Chao didn’t agree, he would persist until he did.
"Alright," Wang Chao finally nodded and said, "Since that's the case, you can stay by my side." He needed someone to relay messages when he went to assign tasks to Yuan Min and Ouyang En.
"Thank you, Brother Wang!" Li Kai exclaimed.
"Okay, go prepare yourself first. Wait for me downstairs at the chief's building; I have something else to attend to!" After speaking to Li Kai, Wang Chao turned and walked out toward Yuan Min's office building. Just as he reached the entrance, a female soldier there said to him, "Captain, the chief and the person you brought back are waiting for you upstairs!"
Wang Chao nodded thoughtfully. This title was quite significant; these female soldiers were aware of his true identity. However, since Yuan Min was the chief of the Safe Zone, how should Wang Chao address him? He decided it was best to stick with what others called him—Captain Wang.
As he pondered this, Wang Chao entered the office where Yuan Min, Ouyang En, and several captains of Yuan Min's Royal Guard were present.
"Brother Wang, you're here!" Ouyang En greeted him.
Wang Chao nodded and replied, "Yesterday I only briefly mentioned things. Ouyang En, since you're from Anfei Safe Zone, you handle monitoring the Safe Zone. Yuan Min, send a few squads with Ouyang En; Anfei Safe Zone is relatively small. I believe Liu He won't take reckless risks attacking Zhonghu Safety Zone. Firstly because Liu He thinks we have ties with the Black Clothes Society; secondly due to his character—Ouyang En, you should understand this well."
Ouyang En nodded and said, "That's right. Liu He has become furious and arrogant while also being extremely suspicious and fearful of death. He won't act rashly without absolute advantage!"
Wang Chao had already taken a seat and continued, "The most critical issue is actually the Black Clothes Society. Liu He is not afraid; the real fear lies with the Black Clothes Society. Although Aikun'er is currently in our hands, the attacks from the Black Clothes Society will not cease. I believe they are already making arrangements. Yuan Min, your task is to take your guards and monitor the movements of the Black Clothes Society! If there’s any sign of trouble, come back to see me immediately!"
"Understood!" Yuan Min nodded in response.
"Now you all should act!" Wang Chao said. "Every moment we delay increases the danger to the Zhonghu Safety Zone."
"Understood!" With that, Ouyang En left with several captains, and Yuan Min nodded at Wang Chao before also exiting the room. Wang Chao stretched and turned to a guard nearby, asking, "Is Aikun'er awake yet?" The woman shook her head and replied, "No, Kun has been in the room since last night and hasn't come out at all!"
Wang Chao pinched his chin thoughtfully and remarked, "How can this girl sleep so soundly?" Since Yuan Min's office included an inner room, Aikun'er naturally couldn't sleep with Wang Chao. To ensure her safety, she was arranged in a suite within this office. With dozens of guards outside watching over her, it seemed unlikely anyone could pose a threat to Aikun'er.
With these thoughts in mind, Wang Chao approached the door of the inner room and knocked. He listened closely but heard no response. How could this girl be sleeping so deeply? It was already eight o'clock! He knocked again and called out, "Aikun'er, Aikun'er, the sun is shining on your backside; why aren't you getting up? Hey, what are you doing in there?"
After calling several times without any response from Aikun'er, he sensed something was wrong. Such loud calls should have reached her ears. "If you don't respond soon, I'm coming in! Don't blame me for seeing things I shouldn't!" Still, there was no reply from inside. Realizing something was amiss, Wang Chao forcefully pushed open the door.
The room was completely empty; there was no sign of Aikun'er at all. The blanket lay spread out on the bed. Wang Chao stepped forward and touched it; it still held some warmth. It seemed that Aikun'er had not left long ago. He sat down on the bed, resting his chin on his fist as he pondered who could have taken Aikun'er.
Could it have been Aivina when she came to find him last night? But that didn't make sense; Aikun'er's bedding still had warmth. If she had been taken last night, it would have cooled down by now. But if she was taken this morning, why would Aivina go through such unnecessary trouble?
After all, if it were someone else attempting to take Aikun'er with her Platinum-level abilities—though she might not be skilled in martial arts—she could still struggle enough to alert those outside. Or perhaps Aikun'er had simply left on her own?
