Little Grass tilted her head, her face still expressionless as she said softly, "You don't need to worry about me. I can manage on my own outside. Grandpa let me come out to see the world. She said it's not good for a girl to be staring at a computer all the time. I understand it's about radiation, but now that I'm out here, I don't know what’s fun. What do you think is fun?"
Wang Chao shook his head helplessly. Little Grass was truly not an ordinary person. He stepped closer and pinched her cheek. This time, Little Grass did not resist; she just stared blankly at him. Her face changed into various shapes under his squeezing, yet she still showed no expression, as if he were not pinching her own face at all.
Feeling her skin, Wang Chao realized that Little Grass was not a robot, but why did her way of speaking sound like that of a sentient machine? After a while, he withdrew his hand and said, "Since you're out to have fun and wandering aimlessly anyway, why don't you just stick with me? I'll show you around!" To be honest, Wang Chao had many reasons for wanting Little Grass by his side.
Her background was too mysterious; only by keeping her close could he learn more of her secrets. Wang Chao had a nagging feeling that the outbreak of the Zombie crisis was somehow related to Little Grass. Moreover, her abilities were incredibly formidable, and that Spatial Ring she possessed was clearly not a product of this era's technology. All these factors made Wang Chao feel that things were far too mysterious.
Finally, Little Grass nodded and said, "If that's the case, then I'll stay by your side!"
Wang Chao nodded in agreement. At that moment, Aikun'er also grabbed Little Grass's hand excitedly and said, "Sister Little Grass, let's go together!" Climbing up the mountain was easy, but coming down took quite some time. After using all his strength to ascend, it was noon by the time they reached the bottom. From a distance, Wang Chao spotted Li Kai waiting there; it seemed that after getting separated from Wang Chao, Li Kai had been waiting all this time.
"Brother Wang, you're back!" Li Kai sighed heavily in relief and said, "You scared me! But it's good that you're back!"
Wang Chao felt a bit awkward and helpless; he had just picked up a little brother and ended up losing him for several hours. He didn't know whether to be pleased with his own strength or to look down on Li Kai for being so weak. While talking with Li Kai, he heard Aikun'er shout from the foot of the mountain, "Sister Little Grass, what are you doing? Why are you pulling up those weeds?"
Hearing Aikun'er's words, Wang Chao nodded slightly at Li Kai and walked over to them. Now he saw Little Grass continuously digging up wild plants, leaving the three of them puzzled. Then they watched as a bottle of mineral water appeared out of nowhere in Little Grass's hand. She washed the weeds clean with it before popping them into her mouth and chewing.
The three around her were stunned; none understood what Little Grass was doing. In their shock, they forgot about the mineral water bottle that had appeared and disappeared in her hand. But Wang Chao knew this must be the Spatial Ring at work. Looking at her hand confirmed it; indeed she wore a Spatial Ring. However, what shocked Wang Chao was why Little Grass was eating grass—was this how she got her name?
Little Grass continued eating without any expression on her face; he couldn't tell what the wild plants tasted like. Curiously, Wang Chao asked her, "Little Grass, what are you doing? Why are you eating that?"
Seeing everyone looking at her in confusion, Little Grass tilted her head again and twirled a strand of hair with her finger as she replied, "What's so strange about this? Grandpa told me to come outside and try some food from nature. This kind of grass is edible; it’s not very nutritious but can fill you up. Don't you all eat these kinds of foods?"
Wang Chao was utterly speechless. He couldn't fathom what this little girl had been eating at home that made her think humans consumed such things. When the Zombie crisis first erupted, people were desperate for food and water, willing to eat anything to survive. But now, four years into the crisis, the things she was trying to eat were meant for livestock.
He snatched the grass from her hands and said, "Stop eating that! Spit it out! We humans don't eat these anymore. I'll take you to have something delicious!" The little girl nodded and spat out the chewed grass. Wang Chao shook his head helplessly. By the time they returned to the Safe Zone, it was already afternoon, and the group hadn't eaten all day, leaving them ravenous.
Back in the office, Wang Chao instructed a guard to prepare a meal. Before long, a feast was laid out on the table, vibrant and aromatic. It looked like a professional chef had prepared it. Wang Chao picked up a piece of eggplant and offered it to the little girl, saying, "Try this, and see how it differs from the grass you had at noon!"
She nodded and took a bite. "This is eggplant; I recognize it! But the taste is quite unique. It has salt, oil, vinegar, and other seasonings inside, along with hints of garlic and scallions!" As she spoke, she picked up another piece of eggplant and remarked, "This one is clearly different from the last; the flavors vary, and the seasoning isn't evenly distributed. In my understanding, seasoning should be spread evenly!"
Wang Chao hadn't expected her to be such a foodie; after just two bites of eggplant, she had so much to say.
"Cooking is like being human; there are always various imperfections," he replied. "Just like you mentioned about uneven seasoning. It's precisely these imperfections that give each dish its unique flavor. When God created humans, He made countless different individuals, contributing to a rich and colorful world rather than a monotonous one!"
"Imagine if everyone were the same and every dish tasted identical—how terrifying that would be!" Wang Chao continued.
"Are you a believer in creationism?" the little girl asked. "But looking at you, you don't seem to fit into any particular religion; it's quite strange!"
At this point, Wang Chao didn't know how to respond. He could only say, "Humans are peculiar creatures—moody and unpredictable. No single framework can describe a person; that's what makes humanity unique!"
The little girl nodded thoughtfully.
