Two days had passed, and at this moment, Wang Chao lay on a bed. The wounds on his body had scabbed over, each large injury looking incredibly horrific. If Wang Chao were an ordinary person, these scars would have left him dead countless times. However, his robust physique allowed him to endure, yet he remained in a state of unconsciousness.
From a distance, one could see various tubes inserted into Wang Chao's body, each filled with unknown liquids that continuously flowed into him. These were naturally administered by Xiaocao. Over the past two days, Aikun'er felt as if Xiaocao was not from this planet; the way she could pull things out of thin air astonished Aikun'er. If it weren't for her concern about Wang Chao's injuries, Aikun'er would have insisted that Xiaocao demonstrate how she did it.
On the first day, Wang Chao had already been unconscious for three days. During this time, the only indication that he was still alive was the rise and fall of his abdomen. Today, Wang Chao's fingers twitched slightly, yet there was no sign of awakening. Aikun'er looked at him with worry and said to Xiaocao, "Sister Xiaocao, is Wang Chao okay? Why hasn't he woken up yet? But he is clearly breathing! His fingers are still moving!"
Xiaocao sat in a chair with a strange instrument that Aikun'er had never seen before. She placed this device against Wang Chao's head and after a long time, she finally spoke: "If you could understand what I’m saying, it would be that the nerves in Wang Chao's neck have been severed, and the wounds are uneven and difficult to stitch up. Given the conditions here, there are no means of treatment!"
"In medicine, determining whether a person is dead can be classified into two categories!" At this moment, Xiaocao appeared to be an expert in medicine. She raised two fingers and said: "The first is cardiac death; if the heart has not beaten for an extended period, with dilated pupils and no fluctuations in the electrocardiogram, one can determine that a person is dead."
"The second is brain death; this means that while the heart may still be beating, the person is in a deep coma without autonomous breathing and complete loss of brainstem reflexes. In medical terms, this is also considered death!" Xiaocao gazed at Wang Chao's body and slowly explained to Aikun'er: "The current situation is that Wang Chao's heart is still beating; his pupils are dilated but not in a state of death. At the same time, there are slight reactions in his brain—like the movement of his fingers—indicating that he is not dead. However, the reason he hasn't awakened seems quite perplexing."
"What could it be?" Aikun'er asked with a pout.
Xiaocao rested her chin on her hand and replied: "This means that his brain and heart have become two separate entities; although neither has died, they have lost their connection to each other—like a robot whose head and body are separated but can still move independently! But why would such a situation occur?"
At this point, Xiaocao stopped paying attention to Aikun'er and quietly observed Wang Chao while muttering to herself: "His individual cells are incredibly strong—so strong that even if part of his body is severed, they can survive independently. Such genetic cells are too powerful; the Zombie Virus cannot cause such robust cellular integrity—it's merely a change in genetic structure!"
"Could someone have modified Wang Chao's body?" As she spoke, Xiaocao stood up. Her eyes lost their luster as she stared blankly at the distant wall, unsure of what had happened. Aikun'er tugged at Xiaocao's sleeve, but there was no response from her. After a long time, Xiaocao finally returned to normal as if her mind had been occupied calculating something until it became free.
Xiaocao looked at Aikun'er and said: "I need to go out for something and will return in about a week. During this time, you will take care of Wang Chao. I have enough life nutrient solution here for several weeks; just keep it here along with these items!" Saying this, Xiaocao took out a bottle resembling a vial from her Spatial Ring. It was labeled with various chemical formulas that Aikun'er couldn't comprehend.
Xiaocao opened the cap and poured out a green pill from the bottle. The pill was round and felt quite elastic when squeezed. Xiaocao swallowed one of these pills and then said to Aikun'er: "That eggplant from the other day had great flavor and color; although this pill doesn't look as appealing as an eggplant, its nutritional content is much higher—far more balanced than that eggplant!"
As she spoke, she handed the bottle to Aikun'er. Aikun'er took one and chewed it vigorously with her teeth, but no flavor emerged no matter how much she bit into it. Only after swallowing did she feel a sense of fullness. Tilting her head, Aikun'er asked, "What exactly is this? It doesn't taste like much, but once it's in my stomach, I feel quite full!"
Xiaocao tilted her head and replied, "I ate this kind of thing when I was on the small island. In the past few days, I've tried many human-made foods, each with its own flavor. However, even eating a lot of those doesn't provide as much nutrition as this one does! Compared to those flavorful dishes, I prefer food like this!"
Aikun'er shook her head and said, "But humans have taste buds for a reason; they enjoy eating delicious food and experiencing different flavors!"
"Is that so?" Xiaocao shrugged and said, "I'll remember that. When I come back, I'll cook for you all myself. For now, I need to leave. Don't underestimate this single piece of food; it contains almost all the nutrients you need. So make sure not to eat too much! According to human beliefs, overeating can lead to gaining weight, which seems rather ungraceful in your eyes!"
Before Aikun'er could respond, Xiaocao had already turned and left. She didn't even see how Xiaocao exited the room. Xiaocao's speed increased rapidly, and soon images resembling a map appeared in her eyes. She muttered to herself, "It seems that Subject 618 has already escaped the range of mutation evolution. It's time to discuss what to do about this with Grandpa!"
"I wonder how Grandpa is doing on the small island?" Suddenly, this thought crossed Xiaocao's mind, but she quickly dismissed it because it wasn't something she should be thinking about.
