Although the nutrient solution contained everything that Wang Chao needed, the first thing he felt upon waking was thirst. He said, "I want to drink water!" Aikun'er nodded and pulled a bottle of mineral water from her Spatial Ring. After Wang Chao drank it, he felt revitalized. Then he asked, "How long have I been unconscious?"
Aikun'er replied, "It's been over a week!"
"What?" Wang Chao sat up abruptly and exclaimed, "I've been unconscious for over a week?"
"That's right!" Aikun'er confirmed.
Wang Chao rubbed his forehead and then calmed down. It had already been a week since he killed Liu He. By now, Aivina must have unified the forces of the Zhonghu Safety Zone, Hefei Safe Zone, and the Black Clothes Society. Moreover, it had been a week; Aivina had likely conducted a thorough purge within her ranks. At this point, everything would have settled.
The common people were weary of war. If conflict were to be instigated now, it would surely draw their contempt. Furthermore, a unified force was far more challenging to deal with than three scattered factions. Previously, there had been suspicions and a delicate balance; once that balance was broken, all forces would be unable to avoid chaos. But now, the situation had changed.
Wang Chao shook his head helplessly. It seemed that the south was undoubtedly under the control of the Ai Family. He had no idea how long it would take for him to infiltrate the south again. However, trade could still be pursued; there were no eternal enemies or friends. Wang Chao only agreed with the latter statement. If it were an enemy like Liu He, who committed all sorts of atrocities, Wang Chao would pursue him relentlessly to the ends of the earth.
Thinking of this made Wang Chao recall Yuan Min, who had been insulted by Liu He and had tragically taken her own life. Wang Chao understood that the Zhang Family's cultivated forces were all orphans like himself; he could empathize with the pain of being without family. Therefore, when he learned of Yuan Min's suicide, he was filled with rage. Yet now, he didn't even know where her body lay—his heart felt heavy.
With a sigh, Wang Chao realized there was little he could do except remember her forever in his heart. An author once wrote that a person dies three times before they are truly gone. The first time is when they take their last breath; biologically, they are dead. The second time is when they are buried; people attend their funeral and reminisce about their life, marking their absence in society. The third time is when the last person who remembers them forgets them—that is when they truly die.
Aside from seeking revenge—the simplest course of action—Wang Chao could only hold onto her memory.
However, one must always look forward. Wang Chao was not one to wallow in despair. He took a piece of clothing from the Gliding Club and put it on before looking seriously at Aikun'er and saying, "To be honest, you should have known about my relationship with your mother from our first meeting. To put it plainly, it's just about issues of power and land."
Aikun'er sensed that Wang Chao was about to share something important. She sat up straight across from him and nodded earnestly.
"Now, the competition between your mother and me has ended with her victory!" Wang Chao said calmly. "So, I should return to the North. However, one thing is certain: my struggle with your mother is far from over. But don't worry, I won't harm you." He paused, looking at Aikun'er’s face, then added, "And I won't harm your mother either!"
Aikun'er shook her head and replied, "Brother Wang Chao, you don't need to treat me like a child in this matter. You know I'm from the Ai Family, which is one of the Seven Great Families of Huaxia. I've seen many people die because of the power struggles and intrigues within it. My father was one of them. So I understand very well that either you or my mother could die at any moment. But I love my mother, and just as much, Brother Wang Chao, I enjoy the time I spend with you."
Wang Chao sighed inwardly. It seemed that Aivina had not told Aikun'er the full truth about her background. Perhaps lies were indeed the best protection for her; after all, it was a significant event back then. Now, whether or not to tell Aikun'er had become secondary.
Wang Chao nodded. Indeed, those from the Seven Great Families, like Zhang Fusheng and Wu Wan'er, understood many things without needing to elaborate.
"So, I'm heading back North. I'll take you close to the Zhonghu Safety Zone; that distance should be manageable for you to return on your own," Wang Chao said to Aikun'er. "Of course, there's one more thing I need your help with. Since your mother has unified the South without issue, help me find someone named Wang Xiaochuan. He's tall and thin, around twenty years old, at Platinum Level strength, and has a black mole under his eye."
"I understand!" Aikun'er nodded seriously.
"Good!" Wang Chao nodded in agreement and continued, "If you find him, please send someone to notify me in the North. When you arrive there, just say 'The moonlight is beautiful tonight!' and I'll know it's you who sent them. That's it! I'll come to see you in the South when I have time!"
Aikun'er stood up and hugged Wang Chao tightly. Although they had only spent a few days together, they had experienced life and death together and gone through so much; such feelings were hard to describe in words. Tears streamed down Aikun'er's face again as Wang Chao gently stroked her hair and said, "Don't worry; I'll come to see you!"
"Can I go to the North too?" Aikun'er asked. "I haven't seen snow in the North for four years!"
"Of course!" Wang Chao nodded vigorously.
After they parted ways, Wang Chao turned to Xiaocao and asked, "What about you? Will you come with me to the North or continue wandering alone?"
Xiaocao recalled his grandfather's words—his grandfather had told him to stay close to Wang Chao to observe his life condition. Only by doing so could he determine if Wang Chao's vitality was stable enough to fulfill his grandfather's lifelong wish in the future. Therefore, Xiaocao replied, "I'll go back to the North with you!"
However, Little Grass actually had another thought: she wanted to see if she could cry. She wanted to try shedding tears. With this idea in mind, Little Grass might have already begun to awaken something called emotions.
